True story. Jimmy Barnes has a very powerful voice, he's basically screaming most of the time in tune. The guitarist is Diesel, another really great Australian artist.
The three of them in the recording studio had been drinking and smoking cigars all afternoon, just right for greasing up the vocal chords.
Jimmy Barns input was set to 7, John farnhams was set to about 4.5. And yet Farnham easily still blitzes Barnsey for absolute sheer vocal power. Barnsey is brilliant but Farnham is a singing god.

Good day mate I saw John Farnham live in Townsville North Queensland Australia in the 80s at a open air concert from the start to the finish Pissed down with rain John stood on the stage soaking wet and sung his heart out till this day it was the best live Concert I’ve ever been to really enjoy the videos keep up the good work mate

Yes, Jimmy is a screamer, but his tone in this recording is richer than John Farnham's.
Barnsy is one of my favourite male vocalists of all time. He just has this deep, deep SOUL to his voice. He’s a great rock singer, but I truly adore when he sings the blues. He’s also got a pretty famous scream. It’s pure distortion over a perfectly balanced voice (these days at least, I bellies he used to blow out his voice doing it back in the day).
He really melds the best of rock and blues. And Farnsy is also one of Australia’s best male vocalists. So this song was always a massive treat, to listen to two of the best singers Australia has ever had, in the one song. Just awesome.
Also, they’re both just really good guys. John is well known to be one of the nicest, most humble people you’ll ever meet. And Jimmy is a fantastic anti-racist campaigner. He’s had some right wing, white nationalists try to use his music at rallies, and he put his foot down hard! All his kids bar one are bi racial.
So not only are they extremely talented, they’re also just plain good people. And that’s amazing when that happens.

His a singer in his own right and in the 80's was know as Johnny Diesel, which was later shortened to just "Diesel". Now he sings under is birth name. The three became known as "Farnnsy, Barnnsy & Deisel.

I've lost count of the number of times I've seen these three artists live - individually - and as long as they keep performing, I'll keep buying tickets. Their music never grows old, and they never disappoint. Diesel is also a fantastic singer, and an awesome guitarist. He plays about eight different guitars during his show. Love this song!

There's just something so very pure about your reaction to this song. I remember when this song first came out I was too young to appreciate it, but the older I get the better it gets!
Incidentally the album this is off, Soul Deep, was my first introduction to Soul music.

Always listen to John live. This is great, but find John & Jimmy on TH-cam singing this live on Hey, Hey it's Saturday (with a guitar solo from Jimmy's brother in law Diesel) and feel the difference. I'm telling you this because you deserve to see them at their best.

I used to sing back up vocals with John Farnham and other bands and his voice is just as beautiful when he is warming up as it is when he is belting out his amazing tunes. His songs are bangers! He was the reason I got into singing.

Mr Farnham outsings mr Barnes by a hundred miles. You should definitely check out more of Farnham live performances. Even today 71 yo he still delivers vocals only young singers can dream of.

Jimmy managed to re-invent himself with that 'Soul Deep' album.
One-Eye it was great to see him really show his chops with soul and blues music. He has the perfect voice for it. You’d hear hints of it with Cold Chisel, but they’re primarily a rock band. But it’s this type of music that truly shows his immense talent, imo.

It was written by Isaac Hayes and David Porter. It was first released in 1967 by Sam & Dave on Stax Records (a MUST HEAR). I first heard it when Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville sang it (INCREDIBLE version) on her "Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind" CD.

I never knew these guys performed together. Killer! I know this Sam and Dave classic when I bought their Best Of for "Soul Man". John Farnham I knew him from LRB and Jimmy Barnes I learned about from the INXS duet Good Times. I have the Daryl Hall and John Oates version of this as well, but this I feel might be better. Well Done!

John Farnham is one of the best in Australia. And Jimmy in cold chisel is just an aussie rock legend. Little river band with Glen Shorrock are right up there and a few LRB songs john Farnham owns them.
