      Man, it happened to me back in Brasil in 1991 when I was 11. There was a Sunday night metal program on the radio, and they used to play this tune every now and then, and I never cared, as I was always expecting them to play some "rare" Anthrax songs (as it was difficult to know the discography of an American band back then without net). And for a while they never played this Mindfunk tune again, and I didn't know the song name nor the band's, and I became obsessed with this song, and all of sudden they played it, and I recorded it on a cassete tape (not being sure it was the song I was waiting to be played for over a year) and when the the main guitar started I was so happy, and heard it in a walk-man I had night and day, working as an office-boy in São Paulo with the phones on my ear the whole day

    Every once in a while I think of this song and play it. I remember watching this vid on headbangers ball in the beginning of the 90's and I went to a Slayer concert in the Ijsselhal in Zwolle where they were opening. It still is an awsome song, and as up to date I am awed by the musicallity of all band members.

    If this single was released to radio programmers with the name "Red Hot Chili Peppers" name on it, the song would have been a hit.

    • @Bloodmoondream
      @Bloodmoondream 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Carlos Ramirez I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the chill peppers pay the radio stations to play their songs.
      The radio killed the chillies for me. I would say, "If I hear one more god damn chilli peppers song"…lol. Now I just turn it off after getting instantly pissed.

    • @hybridslinky4829
      @hybridslinky4829 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Bloodmoondream "pretty sure"? lol yes because I can definitely see how you equate zero proof or anything indicative of anything like this occurring, other than their songs being played a lot, to being "pretty sure" lol. I think your problem was listening to the radio in the first place. Considering it sounds like you're someone who has very strong feelings about the selection of music you're listening to, why would you use a means of listening to music that you have no control over what is played? I'm not saying the Chili's aren't overplayed, (I wouldn't really know bc I don't listen to the radio often, as most of the songs played on it are ass imo) but mostly I just think your comment is funny. Have a meme-filled day my friend.

    • @hybridslinky4829
      @hybridslinky4829 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Carlos Ramirez Well, I mean this is very different than the style of music that got the Chilis recognized initially. Mother's Milk (which is their first real hit album) featured much more hard rock, Hendrix, funk, punk style. Very heavy overdrive, distortion, and funk. This song in particular is something similar to what you might hear on say, One Hot Minute, which is a few albums later. I guess I understand the point you're getting at, though. The radio isn't necessarily a good source for discovering new, interesting music. And you can't really blame people for being partial towards music coming from a band they're already familiar with, and know they like. That's why I'm not a big fan of the radio. I prefer to take a band I might happen to like in any given genre and explore their influences, as well as other bands in that genre (which is what led me here). Anyways, that's just my opinion.

    Mind Funk - Sister Blue
    Bless this soul away
    please lovin' sister don't show me no pain
    turn up the joy in this dyin' boy
    funny how the good ones always seem to destroy
    'round and 'round lay down your soul
    i know it hurts to let it go
    sister moon keep a shinin' on
    sister blue i won't let you down
    said hey sister blue
    lord i've given everything to you
    I crucified me just to set love free
    so don't you paint me a pretty picture
    then wash it all away
    I've been looking for a heart
    roll me like a shootin' star
    if you're everything you seem
    sister blue won't you set me free today
    it ain't easy to believe in love
    [guitar solo]
    Waitin' on a dream
    child of the goldest memorys
    she'll be a healin' these scars from a world so dark
    think i'll die just a little today and write you this song
    'round and 'round lay down your soul
    i know it hurts to let it go
    sister moon keep a shinin' on
    sister blue i won't drag you down today

    Their debut is good....but this band seriously hit their stride on their next 2 albums. I saw them play 3 times and spoke with Pat Dubar and he said that they (the band) are not fond of their debut at all. Apparently their record label kept trying to make their music lighter in order to fit in with the 80s hair bands and they were always a much heavier band, in the vein of Soundgarden. I remember when Dropped came out I was blown away at how much different they sounded......and in my opinion they were much better. They deserved to have a much bigger career than they did.

    Wow! First guitar solo sounds like Malmsteen meets RHCP!

    The chords on this confuse me. The intro seems straightforward (Am, F, C, D). But when the verse kicks in it feels different. But still seems to be those four chords, kind of. Anyone know for sure? Is he playing inversions or something.

    So was Svitek the lead guitarist on this? He was such a clean player brought technical brilliance and great emotion to his playing.....
