    These electrical motorized recliner couches were giving some trouble. The button on the side had a wire that pinched causing the switch to not work. In this video, I'm talking about why it broke and what we did to fix it.

    Thank you, this explains why one button reclines, but the second button was the culprit of a loose wire. And good advice for button location, very bad design.

    July 26 2020, 3:40pm. I just repaired my recliner. The Problem came from loose button as you indicated in your video. Took it apart and put it back together and it is working like the day I bought it. Thank you!

    Sometimes the two wires where they go into the motor are pinched, and if you pull them tight from that point and tie wrap them to the frame the motor will work.

    I sort of have the same problem, except one button works, but the other one doesn't. It's getting power because it has lights. The open button works, but the close doesn't. It did this before, and I took it apart and cleaned the connections with alcohol, and that worked. But it happened again, and that didn't work. Do I need a whole button control unit?

    • @Petersonelectricllc

      I still think it is the switch, this is what sends the power or command to the motor.

    Do you have a controller that controls the direction of the actuator? I have that 6 pin plug that goes to the switch but on the other side of the switch it's connected to a little black box with a circuit board in it. Would that be the controller?

    We just bought new leather recliner couches from Macy's and will be going on our 3rd try of getting one that works perfectly. The problem we are having is the motors are skipping. (Couch has 2 recliners) They have power but it feels like your on a vibrating ride with pauses and jerks. Have had the tech guys come out and try to fix and they cannot ever figure it out and have another new couch sent out, lol. Does this sound like bad wiring? Can't believe a $5000 couch has these issues....

    • @Petersonelectricllc
      @Petersonelectricllc  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We spent $6k on ours from sofa mart, and have not had an issue with that in two years. It sounds related to an arm that is suppose to slid up and down on the rail. If the motor was out then this would be dead. But, if the arm is slipping then this is slipping issue. The only issue i had on one couch was the button.

    Great video! I actually have a similar problem, but I have 4 buttons recline up, recline down, head rest up, and head rest down. my 2 head rest buttons work perfectly and I can hear the recline down button getting power, but my recline up won't work and doesn't make any noise when pressed like the recline down does. Do you have any suggestions on what to do?

      @@atourtillott so I was lucky enough to still be under warranty. They sent a guy out who said because the buttons were near where all the weight from your body goes it pulled the wires out from the button. He said you would have to cut it open and reattach the wires and sew it back. Which is a lot of work apparently
      He called and asked them to replace the whole recliner and when they sent a new one it had a better set up. The buttons are in an easier to remove box and they are a little further back from where the weight goes.

      Chiming in to say I also have the same problem. The headrest switches work but the recliner ones do not. Confirmed the motor is fine by plugging it into another couches switch

    • @brentd
      @brentd ปีที่แล้ว

      This is likely your issue as well. I have a couch from Costco with the two rocker switches. One for headrest up and down, the other for feet up and down. The problem is the zip tie they use to keep the wires from pulling back through the rear of the switch box actually makes it where the wires can’t flex at the zip tie, so they just bend and eventually wear through the wires due to the constant movement of the entire switch housing because of its location under the user’s backside. I had the yellow wire barely hanging on while the black wire was completely severed inside and only hanging on by the wire’s outer covering. I snipped those wires and rejoined them with solder sleeves and it works like a champ again.

    We have a couch will close to same issue, when you recline it starts then stops part way and won’t move at all. If I unplug the 5 pin connection, let it sit for a few minutes plug back in then it will move again. Any suggestion?

    I really appreciate your video on recliner chairs and couches! I have a question about the recliner I have and wondered if you could reply.
    I had the recliner working very well a few years ago but since we moved from Oregon back here in Tennessee, the recliner has not been working.
    I believe the previous owner modified the wiring from the ac/dc adapter. The wires from the power supply run directly to a small black box (I’m guessing a relay switch). From there the wires are connected directly to the motor.
    I wish I could send you a picture or two and get your take on this.
    I did inspect the switch to raise and lower it and nothing appears to be wrong. But I’m going to unscrew the back of the switch and see if there’s anything wrong.
    What do you think the small black box is for? I’m tempted to try and open it up but I don’t want to damage it.
    I believe the power supply is the problem. I’m going to test it with a VOM to see if there’s any power coming from the adapter.
    I’ll let you know what I find out about this recliner.
    Thanks again for a great video!

      I think it is a set down power supply, so the switches could work off of lower voltage, yet the motors run on 120volts.

      Look under the seat at the motor. Get the model#, look up on Amazon. There you can scroll to bottom and see switches. Description will list furniture brand for compatibility. I just did this for my sofa that quit in the fully reclined position. It kept reclining up, but would not recline down. I pulled the pin out of the actuator leg section to recline until I can order the switch. Take a picture of the motor sticker as it has all of the information you'll need to search online. Best wishes.
