    As a former classical ballet student and instructor, I would suggest to keep your head in alignment with your spine in addition to keeping all your core muscles (from beneath your bra down to your buttocks) engaged. I’m 64 and have been fighting a chronic illness for over 10 years, so these exercises will be more difficult until I build strength. Thank you for these exercise, however I have no weights or gym equipment. I guess I’ll use 2 cans of something in my pantry for some of the exercises. Best of luck and love to everyone!

    Hands down the best video I've ever seen on workouts for older women. I detest paradigms. Throw me a "this happens when you get older" sack of crap and I will throw it right back! With that said, we need appropriate tools. I'm long and lean and have always had strong legs. But I want better arms, and to heck with my age 61 "deterioration". Thank you so much.

    JJ, I just watched your upper body workout vid. THANK YOU!! I'm almost 79, retired DC, and I tend to think I 'know it all' regarding exercise and nutrition. Hah! I fast forward vids all the time for the few points they may add. Yours...,, I watched through.., hanging on your every word! So supportive, so informative, so well described, so important! I will come back to this video. I've been learning from you probably the past 2 decades. You walk the talk and you teach so well. You're one of the smartest to-the-point instuctors I've crossed paths with. And your being a wonderful example is bigtime, too! You've revved me up for the day! Off to the gym.

    I worked out regularly for years and loved feeling strong! After everything in 2020 and after, I just got tired and a bit depressed and eventually dropped my workouts. Now I’m shocked at how quickly my arms and legs lost muscle mass! I’ve just recently started back up with a new attitude and I’m again surprised that it’s not as hard as I thought it would be. Compound exercises have always been my favorite~

    Just found this channel. Love it! A few years ago I was attending regular yoga, workout classes with a trainer. I asked her to help me get defined arms because I have never had them and wanted them. She said, no, "men don't want to grab something hard, they want something soft to hold on to" HA!!!! I found a new trainer. Never really got the arms I wanted but your channel has inspired me to get back at it! Thank you.

    Thank you for not only showing us HOW to do this, but actually explaining how and why it works.
    I’m 71 years old. In my 40’s thru my 60’s I went to the gym and ran most days. 5 years ago I fell down the stairs and injured my back. Walking was hard. Then I had 2 separate falls and injured both knees. I’m probably as good as I’m going to get physically. I cannot kneel because of the knee injuries. After the fall I gained about 50 lbs because I was pretty inactive and ate too much. I’ve been on keto for almost 7 months and I’ve lost 35 lbs,but have not been able to lose anymore for the past 3 months (5’ 1 1/2” and currently 135 lbs. I used to be 5’ 4” but osteoporosis stole those extra inches. Need to,loose another 15-20 lbs) I’m starting out using light weights and will increase gradually as I get my form right and my muscles remember what they are supposed to do.
    I’d like to know your thoughts on a keto diet and strength training. I try to stick to @ 25 grams of carbs or less a day. Would this compromise my strength?

      Do not give up I had a compression back fracture that put me off doing any thing for over a year, when I could finally lay on my back with out to much pain I started weight training and some calisthenics and 4 months later have made great gains. I could not get out of a chair with out help with my hands, now I am doing full squats and jumping squats, which at first I never though I would ever do again. I eat at least 4 eggs every day, and things that call for one egg I use four. Love my blueberry egg nogs 1cup frozen blue berries 4 eggs, and top off with milk in my Ninja mixer. I eat only whole wheat flower, make my own bread in a bread maker, and even my zucchini loafs use 4 eggs and 3 cups of zucchini and a lot of cinnamon and ginger. ( makes 2 loafs.)

    Wow, Thank you so much for this video. Your explanations of the form in each exercise is so meaningful so that we do not injure ourselves. I am 63 and very active. I teach 6 Vinyasa classes a week and play high level tennis, usually with ladies 30 or 40 years younger than myself. From horse accidents to ski accidents to using my chainsaw on the property, my shoulders and arms need work, but most of the workouts end up hurting me more. This video and your instruction was perfect for me and will help me build up without injury.

    You explain exercises so well. I have watched many videos on exercise and no one has ever explained the correct posture and technique the way that you do. Also, for those of us "reintroducing" some of these exercises after a "break" and being reminded to scaffold from doable to more challenging as we get stronger. It makes such a difference. Thank you!

    Your jar story was so impressive. I’m 62 and my whole life I’ve been a workout gal. When I was 49 I had a bad fall down 3 stairs and badly sprained my ankle. I was a newlywed as I just married and we came home from the hospital where we discovered my husband had terminal cancer. I was so shook up that I missed the top step of my garage stairs when I went to put the garbage out. I had also just had a breast reduction 3 weeks prior. My husband died 9 months after our wedding and it was time to take care of my ankle. Sadly I needed 7 ligaments and tendons repaired in 2016. It was an epic fail so in 2018 they did an ankle replacement but that was a brutal failure. Then I found a new surgeon in 2020 and had my second replacement. I can walk now with some pain but it’s not chronic. I tend to stick to the bike and ab rider or my cubii. Your upper body video was so helpful as I realize I’ve had wrong form on a lot of exercises and I haven’t been losing any flab at all. You’ve taught me so much just in this 24 min video. Thank you. I’ll be following you now and thanks for showing us alternative movements to the same technique. God bless you.

    Every now and again, I happen to land on a fantastic channel and/or video. This morning, it was your channel, this video. I'm turning 64 in September, and sadly, my body is nowhere near the condition I want it to be. I can understand the things you are explaining so clearly and am motivated to get serious about improving my strength and my overall appearance. Until I turned 60, I was "naturally" thin. However, I was not especially healthy overall and not caring for myself as I should. Thank you for explaining what has happened and continues to happen as I age and how I can combat it.

    Thank you very much. Soooo many small, yet giant tips. As a person who became very obese, I am looking for those small tips. I used to be invincible like every youngster and could do and did do every exercise. Yes, a jock in my younger years. And, liked working out. Life and covid happened and I found myself pretty hopeless until I finally found useful diet changes. Now I have lost 130 lbs, I am looking to get my strength back as my joints are healing and I am able to do more. Getting on the ground has not been an option for a long time. These tips are great. To date, I haven't worried about working out fasted or not. But (as I have heard before), your point about the need to get more out of your workout is more important than those few hours of fasting. All my workouts over the last year or so have been fasted. I think I am in a position to try what you are saying. I like it. I have watched hundreds of workout videos base on what "they think" works. I like this and you made me subscribe. Keep it up. 61 years old if anyone cares. Moving on to your next video. 😁

    Thank you soooooo much for including consideration for people with injuries. I crushed the bones in my left leg and lower back in a diving accident. After 4 major surgeries, I've now recovered enough to begin training, but I so weak now and my doctor warns me to be careful about lifting too much weight when building strength, which worries me. So, thank you, thank you thank you for including tips for those who want to build strength, but at at the same time have limitations because of injuries!

    Thank you so much for this. As women we need this information because we focus so much on loosing fat and we are so afraid of building muscle to the point that we forget we need muscle to help us remain our figure including support for our skeletal bone and prevent osteoporosis as we age it's just essential to our overall health and wellbeing for our overall metabolism!
    🤦‍♀So I lost a lot of weight, but I'm trying to focus on tightening up and learn how to lift and focus on getting in my daily protein and fiber as I am in my mid forties now. 💛💫✨✨✨

    I started the deadhang a few weeks ago. Feeling amazing the first day ( I am athletic and sporty all my life so results differ for each individual) all my pain from arthritis, rotator cuff injuries many years ago from a couple falls, gone completely. Amazing !!!!
    The first few days my hands bleed but healed quickly however the calluses remain as long as we do this exercise regularly. This to be expected.

    Love the idea of the blood flow restriction bands. I have a total shoulder replacement (2018) and am limited to 25 lbs or less with that arm. I'm in great shape and am pretty lean for just shy of 60, with muscle definition, but have recently hit a wall as far as gaining more definition. Do you have a brand of blood flow bands that you recommend over others?
    Thank you,

    Thank you for making these videos because it helps me to figure out what to do to start somewhere.
    If I were at a gym I would be so grateful for anyone showing me how I should be doing an exercise or use a piece of equipment.
    This is what keeps me from going to the gym at all. I don't want to do something the wrong way to hurt myself, but there is no one to simply show you how to use the equipment without having to pay a personal trainer. Most seniors are on a fixed income and paying a personal trainer just to show you how to use a piece of equipment?
    A lot of us can get silver sneakers or other free gym memberships with medicare, but again someone to show a person how not to hurt themselves would be helpful.
    I just found your youtube channel and I'll be watching more.

    Unfortunately I'm at the gym at 4:30 am and I can't eat before working out. I have to wait at least 4 hours after eating. Coffee gives me heartburn when I workout so i don't drink it till afterwards. That sucks! 😢 Any suggestions on creatine brands?

    • @barbarafairbanks4578
      @barbarafairbanks4578 ปีที่แล้ว

      @katherinrsmith2365 - it doesn't need to be a meal.
      A protein shake will do - or a bcaa supplement in juice or milk, plus a small carb source- toast, bagel, banana, a protein bar with some carbs, will do.
      Just so that you aren't working out fasted - you are in a catabolic state already when fasted - dont make it worse by also exercising in that state.
      That said... somehow this works o.k. for men, but NOT for women.
      Try it, I think you'll feel a big difference in your energy level & performance. 😉

    I highly recommend a 'steel mace'!
    I am sure it will keep preventing from bad posture. And it helps to keep the muscles.
    Actually after 2 month I had no shoulder pain anymore. I had them about 5 years before.
    Take a low weight. It's far enough. 5 lbs is enough for nice movements. I have a 2.5kg.
    Searching on youtube for steel mace flow. So you can imagine what to do.
    Like dancing in a worrier mood. Flow❤
