I went to see him in Birmingham a while back (BC: Before Covid), and he was brilliant. I took a friend with me and he was completely spellbound by John's incredible performance. I also love his songs. Go and see him ASAP.
Agreed! He plays with various different folk - any and all groups that feature John Doyle are worth seeing live. His passionate and virtuoso playing is combined with a low-key and sweet stage presence - he's the best!
In answer to meself a few weeks ago........I saw him last night...all I can say is ..WOW! ..AND he smiled and laughed lots and made us all laugh lots too! Which we needed after all the hard work of trying to visually keep up keep with his fingers, which can cause eye strain, mental fragility...and great thirst! I never once saw him look at the fretboard...eek! I dread to think what'd happen if I did that!! :O)
I'd say a discreet backing with a few gentle basses and few crosspicking would make it cooler. I saw the other day a video of him backed by Matt Heaton, also a gifted guitar player :) But damn! John is so flashy 😨 What tempo is it? I can only play slightly faster than half as fast 😅
Mostly I love John Doyle's amazing playing, but this set, not as much. Seems to me that his momentum gets him going too fast to be musical in his phrasing, and unable to slow down, to my ears at least. That said, he is an extremely clean and creative player, 99% of the time, from what I have heard. I think this set would have benefited from having an accompanying instrument.

Love Birmingham people sound as a pound !☘️☘️

if you ever want to hear him do it live... THE BEST!!!
"Like" is just too tame a reaction to this . Brilliant!
The master at work.
I love this style of guitar, and he is the best!
JD cranks it out lefty like he's having fun, and I believe he is, sure is fun to hear!
Mind blown.
stunning
Wow, wow, wow. To coin Tommy E's phrase, "I have to warm up my ears to be able to listen to that one..."

wow. beautiful.
magic!
John plays songs in a variety of tunings, but he typically backs and plays tunes in Drop-D tuning.
Jimi Hendrix: Best lefty electric guitarist.
John Doyle: Best lefty acoustic player.
The best...
@brutus333 the first one is Paddy Tailors....
wow !
Myrddin de Cauter is a lefty as well. also really good and worth checking out.
He's in a trance and concentrating. Not looking at his hands once.
Wow ! Respect !
Bella anche al posto di violino!!!!
Fun? He looks as though he's about to burst into tears!!
He'd better look happier when I go to see him next month!!(Or I'll tell im off!
:O)

Who knows the name of the last tune ???
Thanks !
what do you think, which tuning was this set in? i see he adjusts only the last string
Yes, John is a southpaw...
at 0:19 and around 0:22
is he a leftyhand guitarist ?
Given that he's playing a guitar left handed, I think we can quite safely assume he's a left handed guitarist.
no it's just that your screen is "back to front"
@@drummerboy1390 no he is just doing it because the righthanded one made it too easy

Excellent. A top class performance. Arty McGlynn would be proud.
