I met Arty a couple of times in Galway. I was playing in a session in the Crane. Jackie Daly was there. Later in walked Arty. He was just in to listen to the tunes and few pints. He didn't have his guitar with him. Arty was my trad guitar hero, I'd learned a few off tunes off McGlynn's Fancy. Later that night I played them badly for him and then gave him my guitar. He played a few tunes and showed me his triplet method. It was such a privilege to watch his hands close up (long before the days of TH-cam) and get a master class. One of the nicest people I ever met.
I was drawn to Irish music as a guitarist and wannabe fiddler for jigs...!! What a discovery...esp minor key jigs...and, not too fast...!! Cheers all from Texas!!
absolutely wonderful how i would ever have been able to experience these great old clips without youtube i will never know. thanks a million for posting
amazing sound of these 2 Yamahas. I just bought the same model (a 1974 make). They were equally good to Martins in the mid 70s! Never forget the musicians party in Connamara where I had the pleasure to meet Arty in the late 90s!
This is a moment of musical genius - just think, one day, music like this may fade away as these people grow old and pass. I just pray there are enough young ones coming along behind to pick up the torch and carry it forward.
Thankfully they are going nowhere soon.Borh musicians still share their craft. We just booked tickets to see Mr Brady next month. We never miss an opportunity to him live.In our hallway in our home hangs two very large unique paintings one of Sir Van Morrison the other Mr Paul Brady. We are huge fans and without their music life would be very different.☘️
Both play Yamaha fg180's,stunning sound from a cheap laminate guitar made in Japan in the late 60's.I bought one after seeing this, and it sounds superb, shame I can't play it like these guys!
Agree that Brady's guitar is overwhelming the sound. Not his fault, he's a very loud powerful player and they should have turned his mic down. Having said that I can still hear how amazing Arty's guitar is. What a feel.
when you're playing traditional acoustic folk then balancing the volume in the sound board doesn't make much sense, this is how guitarists playing melodies typically sound at sessions
When I hear the wonderful sound of the FG 180 it really brings me back. I had one 40 years ago but it was stolen from the boot of a friend's car. It had only cost me £10 second hand but I believe you would have to pay €1,000 for one now if you could find one.
they shouldve turned up arty . its hard enough to play tunes on guitar without having to play over such loud accompaniment. i still love the clip though

A legend passes this evening... Had the pleasure of his company for a few hours once... what a character also...
A rare smile from Arty at the end... he rarely smiled which was strange as he was one of the most witty people I've ever heard.

Brilliant stuff from Arty. The use of the pinky is crucial. So many guitarists do not use it at all. RIP.
I keep coming back this video. The talent of that man is awe inspiring.
absolutely wonderful

This is hardcore rock n roll! ❤ so good! ❤
Simply magestic! How lovely!
The best Irish guitarists play the best of Traditional Irish Celtic Music

As long as there are recordings of it, people will figure out how to play it!
The music is in safe hands

Super amazing!!!
how young are you guys .... Arty McGlynn and Paul Brady!!!!!!!
I've seen paul brady in new york about 8 times he is a brilliant performer .arty was also a brilliant artist and his music will live on

OK for Artie Mc Glynn , but I don't think Brady's guitar is a Yamaha. The shape of the protection plate is very different from the Yamaha brand.
@@Frakfayt both Fg180 Red label
@@Frakfayt I think he just replaced the pickguard with a different one. Other than the pick guard it looks exactly like a Yamaha FG180
Lovely playing - so rare to hear!
Wonderful ... Rest in peace.

I think the effect was nice- powerful, not overwhelming.
Simiply brilliant!
Fabulous to hear Arty through a microphone, rather than a built-in bridge pickup.

Beautiful
Both playing the old Yamaha FG red label, excellent guitars..
Wonderful!!

RIP Arty McGlynn
Really nice.
Sublime!
brilliant
Sad news today. RIP Arty.
a great bit of music for this very strange saint patricks day
Neither of them vertigo sufferers, judging by the height of those stools!
Great music too.
Agreed.
when we were young
Is there any album of tunes of a guitar duet with one backer and one flatpicker?
FYI,
this tune was recorded some years back by eileen ivers,
D
class
Anyone know an album of a giotár duo 1 flatpicking + 1 backing with a guitar mainly, but occasionally why not a cittern or bouzouki?
I wish they would make an album together.
im a standard player but this is makin me wanna get on the dadgad, im assuming thats what theyre on and paul on fred finns?
i love arty and paul together they are good
R.I.P
Two Yamaha fg180 guitar .... hummmmmmmm red label 1968
A sad loss to Irish trad. RIP Arty.
Kinda like to hear the A & C sections on a drone, but that's nitpicking. Handy playing, for sure.

In what tuning do Paul Brady play here?
RIP a Mháistéir Mór!
Does anyone know what tuning Arty was using?
It looks and sounds like standard tuning.
He was usually in Drop D
@@dziegele Thanks.
@@kevinburnsmusic3896 Thanks for that.
@licensedtochill1
Who knows...but we know it now, yeah?
is this arty g?
Sorry to comment on anything other than the spectacular guitar playing but PB is so freakin cute here it's painful!
they shouldve turned up arty . its hard enough to play tunes on guitar without having to play over such loud accompaniment. i still love the clip though
@tristetta clearly you are unaware that yamaha have produced some fine instruments over the years
I really wish Brady wasn't playing here, or at least his volume was lower. Can't hear Arty's playing well enough (which is quite good).
Where's the sound engineer? Tune totally drowned out by accompaniment. Two of the best guitarists in Ireland though.
engineer? Ireland! 1976!!!! Stop moaning and take this beautiful moment in - be happy it was captured on TV!!
Give Irishman or a Scotsman a guitar and he tunes the drone first
what about those flairs!
Is that you on there
Rather hear Brady
i think brady is a bit fumpy and loud. don't know about you. but its well fumpy
PB is too loud.... argh...
Lmao
just fumpy
its fumpy nit picking
