Interesting fact, typically Goldfoil Pickups utilize a rubber magnet (same magnets use for refrigerator magnets). One of the properties of the rubber magnet Pickups is that when using distortion rolling the guitar's volume back will not clean up the output, the tone will remain distorted.
Just got mine in. I ordered blue and they sent green. After a couple minutes of upset, turns out I prefer the green after seeing this video and seeing it live (the photos definitely favored the blue). Plus the wood grain shines through beautifully on the one I got, so I don’t wanna risk getting a blue one like the video where the grain isn’t so prominent. This guitar is just perfect for me, plays and sounds great. So ritzy!
My ex bought me a green P Bass that I love. Green wasn't an offered color, so I called Fender...they said it was blue, and it was common for blue to end up looking green.
@@RByrne The guitar is amazing as far as playability goes. Mine came with the action very low and surprisingly needed no further setup…because it was absolutely perfect. Combined with the neck, I’ve never felt more agile on a guitar. It’s a pure joy to play. Check the electronics (volume & tone knob) and all pickup positions before you buy…I’ve had trouble with both of my last Fender purchases (sight unseen) in this regard. I had to send back my first Magico because of a pickup problem that couldn’t be solved by anyone (it wasn’t dead, but it would cut out way too often to deal with) It’s not TOO much of a pain to fix or pay to get fixed, but when you’re spending that much, no reason to get something less than perfect. Sorry for the length, hope this got to you in time. In sum, I was attracted to the faux-ritzy look but it turned into the most playable guitar I’ve ever held, and that number is pretty high and includes a lot of higher end stuff that’s passed through the studio. Play it and you’ll see (or disagree!) good luck
Gold foil pickups are really unique. There's nothing like them. They sound very "textured" if that makes sense. They have tons of overtones. It's a very full thick sound for single coils
Love your show Trogly, HOWEVER, you've reviewed some pretty gaudy Gibson's, that purple modern Flying V comes to mind, so I wouldn't be so hard on the Fenders'. And to call a $2300 guitar a "wall hanger", well my friend, it seems like your getting a little out of touch with a large portion of your audience. I could get 4 guitars that I would love for that amount of money and have enough left over for lunch.
I purchased this exact Daphne Blue model and it is truly VERY different than any of my other 13 Fender Tele's. This guitar is basically custom shop. My pup readings are Neck - 6.25, Middle - 3.29, Bridge - 6.85 so there is some variance between your readings and mine. My guitar weighs exactly 7 lbs, zero ounces. This thing sounds so different and feels so good. The flamed neck is really nice but overall in terms of its custom neck shape I like it but I now prefer the Brad Paisley neck shape which is also a custom "V shape. The Magic Tele is a true keeper for the price which I got discounted. Its not too much bling because its tasteful and different. They did a great job with this model release.
I have a custom shop Strat from the 90’s heavy quilt maple neck with beautiful heavy gloss finish it is stunning. However it took 10 years for all that gloss to completely Crystallize and allow the tone of the guitar to come through. So be careful what you wish for even though it is beautiful and eventually will be a fabulous player. It also has the most beautiful Ash body with like a white wash finish see-through love the show
You’re right Trogly, it looks WAY better here than the promo photos. Blue all the way. And that case! I’m in love, I want one really badly now. Plus it comes with my favorite pickups ever, gold foils. So killer!!!
Didn’t realize you were a troglodyte too. Your channel, Fluff, Trogly, 60 cycle hum, Ola, and Glenn are my constant watches. Mix in some Scallion and Dines and were good to go.
Cheap looking but expensive actually suits the guitar. Goldfoils were used on the cheap MOTO over the top guitars, and this guitar hints towards it quite well imho I actually really like it. Very original design from fender...
Body needs a darker finish to really highlight all the white MOTO. It's practically invisible from a distance tbh. Neck could stand to be baked/roasted maple instead to boot
This pretty much how I am specing my Custom Telecaster except with plain white binding on the neck and body with white blocks and tradition tele configuration. Nice to see Fender do something like this
@WaurufEx Mágica would have made much more sense, since guitarra is a female noun. I don't know who comes up with these weird names at Fender's marketing department, it's just one word they had to get right.
After you said you weren't blown away from the sound of the guitar you go in to explain the sound kind of like you thinks it's pretty damn good. Bright but not harsh. I feel that's one of the hardest things to accomplish
I love that case! I have the 'Parallel Universe' Tele Deluxe ('Troublemaker") in blue, but it came with their deluxe plastic case. I heard the Gibson HP cases (metallic ones) had probs with their latches, so I decided not to upgrade to it for my ES-339.
Would love something like this but in black and just with a normal Tele pickguard in the ol' mother-o-toilet-seat or maybe in a tortoiseshell, and definitely with a nitro finish. I just feel the pickup rings with a separate pickguard just make the gestalt of it a bit busy when you've got all the binding as well and make it a bit of a garbage-wagon. Love the idea of a thinline Tele with gold foil pickups, though. Really interesting and would be a fantastic slide guitar platform!
Considering to buy one of them eversince they were shown on NAMM in 2019... then the pandemic happened... but seeing this vid... I think I actually will have to get one. GODDAMNIT these aren't fuckin cheap.
In my book it is the coolest looking Fender ever. I would have preferred a humbucker at the bridge. I have a Gold Foil in the neck position of one of my guitars. It is cool for accompanying parts of a tune but not for any serious rock. A toaster style PU cover would keep the vibe over that HB.That is what I did on my guitar.
That was a nice Fender review I believe since you expanded your sales it has caused a better fair m an manufacturer promotiom of the brands over all I am saying your maturing along the way is cool to take notice of your professionalism unbecoming finely groomed. Great Job
I have an old '60's Harmony Bobkat H15V that has the DeArmond gold foil pickups. They've become my all-time favorite pickups, very reminiscent of P90s, but still with a tone all their own. I'd love to build a Les Paul style guitar (or even a PRS style guitar) with some of those, it would probably sound amazing.
Nothing like gold foil pickups. They sound completely unique. They've got such a complex textured sound. Tons of overtones compared to regular pickups. I'm glad they're making a comeback, a few companies make gold foil pickups to fit in your normal pickup spots, like humbucker versions for a les Paul, or tele sized single coil ones, the bigger bridge one and the smaller neck one, and the strat size pickups etc
The first time I heard the term "Mother of Toilet Seat" was in the early/mid 80's in Dan Forte (aka Teisco Del Rey) Off the Wall column in Guitar Player magazine. Some of the others I remember he used were Mother of Bowling Ball, Mother of Countertop, Mother of Linoleum.
I like the green one better, but yeah the sensation of different color with the case and the guitar is so good and the case wouldn't look so good if it was blue
Their not exactly "Sea Foam Green," but they come awfully close. If they were a red finish, deeper than your standard SG red, that would be awesome. Some very sweet tones here. ROCKABLE!
I really liked the look more in the photos than when you got up close in the video. I am all about being extra, but I feel like they shouldn't have done the pearloid binding
You keep saying mother of toilet seat. It's called acrylic swirl, or more commonly called Pearloid. It's a plastic that is intended to resemble mother of pearl. It is commonly used in making musical instruments, especially for pickguards, electric guitars, and accordions.
Hi! Great review here! Just curious about one thing: as the body is lightweight, is the guitar still balanced ? Does it neck dive? Do you feel like an "anormal" tendency for the headstock to wanna touch the ground like on SGs for exemple? 😁 Thanks!
I would have made the pickguard and top “ring” all one piece... that seam line looks bad. I’ve noticed Fender has most of their cases back-ordered everywhere (I’m waiting on a Jazzmaster case for a project, and a Mustang bass case for a used buy that didn’t have a case (I normally would pass, but this is a nice enough example in a great color)...
