I find it absolutely hilarious how both Judo and BJJ originally came from the same style, Japanese Jujutsu, in the early to mid 20th centuries they diverged and specialized, how each set of practitioners created a huge rivalry arguing back and forth that BJJ is better, no Judo is better, and now in the early (leading into mid) 21st century we see both styles recombining into a single style because by themselves they were too incomplete. I know I shouldn’t find it so amusing but I do. I know, that’s an oversimplification, but seriously am I wrong with the overall point?
Yeah but also the hyper specialization made each game (standing and ground) way more advanced than Japanese Jiu Jitsu could be and has allowed each art to develop and focus on which techniques work best. The levels judo and especially bjj are at compared to even 20 years ago is insane and I can only imagine it’s way more so than JJJ
In judo, you're not worried about someone pulling guard or shooting on your legs, and both players are trying to throw. The stances and reactions are going to be different
Sensei... please never stop with the judo for bjj stuff you do! You've been a blessing to my game! I hate guard pullers or guard pulling and so takedowns and throws have been my bread and butter! OSSS💪🏾💪🏾
@@Miele__nothing is… but things change in competition the moment you allow someone else to be on top; unless, of course, you’re a world class guard player.
Ukimi-waza isn't taught in most bjj school, they drill double leg and single leg, and foot seeps but rarely anything more advanced unless they have judoka in the gym-(resident judoka)
Hi man . Im ae adult yellow belt 😅 9 months in of my judo training. I just want to say thank's for the work you put in. It's very informative and help's me study.
The thing about BJJ is, the majority of jiu-jitsu’s techniques start from the guard position. My professor told me: If you want to learn how to stay standing up, learn kickboxing. If you wanna learn how to throw someone, learn wrestling or judo. If you want to learn how to defend and attack on the ground, you learn BJJ.” Every martial art has its purpose and its specialty. BJJ’s specialties begin with the guard.
This really seems like a swiss knife for BJJ standup. I know (not know know, but was shown and done it in class, but didn't drill) loads of throws but had trouble figuring out a set that i can use, this is exactly what i needed, thanks !
Sensei always beautiful techniques. Fairly simple. I don’t do BJJ, but they are good to know and I combine them with my karate/light grappling techniques in the Dojo.❤
judo is awesome. If you do judo and bjj, you are practically invincible. ( I do taekwondo, scandinavian defendo, aikido and haedong kumdo of which only defendo is practical, other's are interesting leisure time hobbyes. If I started from a clean slate now, I would do only bjj and judo )
Great explanation and demonstration, but is it wise to start with Tomoe Nage? Always seemed like an intermediate throw and not something you learn on your first day of class.
Sensei, I love the reverse Kata Garuma. Would you know a strategy to do that no gi? Also, is it correct that a drop kata garuma is now illegal in sports judo? And just a check question is there a specific reason you drop to your knees and not to your hip (with your leg streched - like the old school judo competition kata garuma), or is that only because the move would be a bit more difficult?
I went to judo almost two years in Salem before the gym facility was shut down for restorative reconstruction. They just finished building that structure and are reopening it, but without the judo program 😕 I miss it a lot and I would love to get back into it but I just have no idea where to find somewhere comprable for training. 😞
Hey man, thank you for the great vid. Ive recently started both Judo and JJB simultanously and love to combine them especially doing links with takedown into submission and such. Recently a judo black belt did a nice Sutemi Waza on me, would not not know exactly (ans sorry if the name is wrong) which one and was very helping trough the randori and explained me how he did it. During JJB randori some guy I usually roll with tried to take me down from my legs and offered me a great position to do this kind of "sacrifice" takedown, I managed to gently threw him over me, on his back, while using momentum to roll over and land on him in mount position. He actually really liked it as it was smooth and got me to a good position and asked me abt it, but another guy came in and told me that I could not do that bc it was forbidden to land someone on his head (which I did not though), I did not went to the coach to ask and just continued the randoris on the ground, I wonder if you, or anyone here knew if this kind of takedown were ok in JJB ? My understanding was that any kind of suplex was out to protect the neck and back, but in that case I just rolled him over me using his momentum, so I wondered it was a legit takedown for JJB or not, bc it just felt like super nice to score takedown + passe guard with little effort if the pther guys tries to push you too hard Thanks again
@@zevstarr-tambor7084 yes indeed, they only said that it "look" more like Uki Otoshi, and i do agree. And even so, moves can be done in a not traditional way and still be the same move. Just look at the De Ashi Barai tutorial from this same channel, he does it in a very different way from the traditional one.
I love this and feel validated for making this video because it aligns nicely. I huge thanks to Shintaro for being one of my main judo influences. th-cam.com/video/blfx4kwbNjs/w-d-xo.html

Yup. Too many holes in my game. I practice Muay Thai and BJJ and need to train judo and wrestling. Should have just trained combat sambo 😂

Sensei Love it❤ great footage always 👍
2 throws that I recommend that are easy are Okuri Hashi Harai and Ko Uchi Gari
1:49 bro invented functional sumi otoshi
If you're learning "throws for bjj" aren't you literally just doing Judo?
In judo, you're not worried about someone pulling guard or shooting on your legs, and both players are trying to throw. The stances and reactions are going to be different

Agree!!
Nothing wrong with pulling guard 🙄
OSSS!!!
@@Miele__ Agree, but some people might fare better with another kind of strategy.
@@Miele__nothing is… but things change in competition the moment you allow someone else to be on top; unless, of course, you’re a world class guard player.
Why don’t we see the tomoe nage in BJJ very much? It seems clearly superior to pulling guard.

Shintaro: Look how easy this is

I hate when the first thing a BJJ gym tells you to do is guard pull for nearly every activity.

when its an asian dude I feel like the information is more legit when it comes to Judo.
caucasians as well, georgians azerbaijanis and russians are very good at judo
Salut messieurs merci pour votre analyse à la prochaine fois vidéo
This is ... OUTSTANDING
Really cool vid, I would love to see you roll both in judo and bjj with Jordan Preisinger
Shit… that would be awesome
I would have loved a bit more details on that 1/4 seionage as that is a super common position for us BJJ guys. I'll have to give that one a try.
Sensei always beautiful techniques. Fairly simple. I don’t do BJJ, but they are good to know and I combine them with my karate/light grappling techniques in the Dojo.❤
hey this guy seems to know japanese for real
What is Coach Eugene’s surname, Higashi?
Thanks, My teachers didn’t stand a chance at surviving.
Cool stuff Shinchan!!! Too bad I'm not into BJJ and just need throws for judo!! Keep it up bro!!

So good. My school doesn't teach anything like this.
can you do a video on controlling and moving the opponent, thanks!
fkn gold. the guard pull throw is so obvious for a BJJ guy lol. Already know Im gonna be spamming the shit out of that lol
The little zoom-ins for comedic flair are great 😂
Amazing. Thank you - and please do more judo for bjj throws!!!
Juste perfect! Thank you!
Thank you sensei these are great!
My preferred judo site. Thanks

Just a detail: In bjj we do not lift the foot where opponent arm is in the sleeve as he can catch it. We lift the other one.
Hey man, with the 4th one what should I do if they have a grip with their other hand, will it still work or should I swap to something else??
Tomo nagae looks sooo usefull. Will definetly try next Training
Brilliant. Although I imagine white belt me will mess it up the first 300 tries and end up in a bad position. Tap fast and tap often 🙂
Thanks this the hot sauce I need to add to my BJJ 0$U
1/4 turn drop seoi? Looks more like uke otoshi to me. Names aside, looks like a great technique I'll have to train.
Yeah
uki otoshi i guess you mean? but in uki otoshi you step straight back. It does have that 'floating' element i agree.
@@zevstarr-tambor7084 yes indeed, they only said that it "look" more like Uki Otoshi, and i do agree.

I loathe guard pulling as primary move.

Last throw is uki otoshi
No. By definition, a "floating drop" will not have contact between the bodies of uke and tori. Hence the "uki" or "floating."
Ohh nvm, I see, you meant the 3rd throw, not the bonus! Haha, you are correct.
@@hardcaliber19 ah yes!.. third throw
on what time code?
