A Pilot that refuses to follow the safety instructions by the crew and endangers other passenger doesn't make anyone feel comfortable about the safety culture of an airline! How would you react in this scenario? Does he have the same attitude when operating the plane? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below. Thanks!

It should be adressed to Ethiopian straight away. The footage is clearly showing he is not complying. Does he comply to all rules when in the cockpit, or do rules don't count for him too, there? Not that he should be sacked, but he should be coached at least to follow regulations. What a bad behaviour!

We can't do anything about that If he was already told. We can escalate that by reporting that over to their management, by file the complaint, writing a statement, and narrate how the subject character acted or his/her demeanor during the interaction.

Well, most of the local Ethiopian Pilots are known to be very arrogant and undisciplined Pilots. The foreign pilots have mentioned this and even flying we do hear them when they do their radio transmissions. They are very undisciplined. Its a shame for a Pilot to be acting that way I front of the passengers.

Last flight on Ethiopian we had a great flight from Paris to JNB but it’ll be our last. That pilot is a horses rear end. I bet he behaves like that in the cockpit. If that’s the standard of your flight crew, Ethiopian is off the list for our yearly flights to SA.

Hi Josh. Don't know if you remember me but you visited our home in Dubai with Daz a few years back. I'll be honest, I'm not a great fan of TH-camr creators and 'influencers', only because of the hype that surrounds you guys every time you travel or stay in hotels. Most airlines bend over backwards to meet your every needs simply to avoid poor reviews and it can put a lot of our hard working cabin crew under unnecessary pressure. However, recently I have come to the conclusion that the majority of posts provide a fairly honest and true reflection of the experience. When you highlight the concerns regarding this pilot, I have to commend you for bringing his poor attitude to the public's attention. I can assure you that the arrogance and disregard shown by this individual is not reflective of the pilot community in general. The vast majority of pilots have high professional integrity and would never show such contempt to non compliance with regulatory rules and procedures. The very same rules and procedures that our passengers are legally mandated to follow. We should be setting the example, so thank you for highlighting this. Hopefully Ethiopian will have taken appropriate action to ensure this recalcitrant maverick is never entrusted with the lives of the travelling public. A lawyer would have a field day god forbid he was ever involved in an accident. Keep up the good work, best regards, Rob (Captain B777)

Josh, with food poisoning you must not eat anything at all as it feeds the infection and makes it worse. All you need is the special fluids with electrolytes to help replenish the minerals and salts you are losing. I always have Immodium on hand and Gaviscon for heartburn and nausea. Sleep and rest is very important to help you recover faster.

Last thing any crew wants to cause is escalation during flight so some accept some abuse in exchange for overall safety.

Our question is while Ethiopian Airlines are serving proper food for their passegers, In the land of where there is no food shortage ,in THE USA, why are the airlines completely stopped serving food for their passangers? Let's say for a 5 hours domestic flight, they will give you one small peanut bag. Maybe, what the flight in the USA don't understand is, for 5 hours flight, passengers can spend more than 10 hours without eating, from the starts of their leaving home, the flighing time, to their arrival place. We do believe that THE Airlines in the US should serve proper food for their passangers as they used to.

How do larger people use the max restrooms? Very carefully. At close to 2 meters, basically I cannot stand up in the front 737 lav. Moving around hunched over kinda sucks.
That said, much more concerning for narrowbody lavs is that almost no airlines have accessible restrooms. While widebodies have been required to have a wheelchair accessible lav for decades, this will only be required in narrowbodies in a few years. This was probably because in the 1980s, narrowbodies were used in shorter flights only. But with the rise of these longer distance planes, it creates a huge problem for people with disabilities.
Its worth noting that both the MAX and A320/321 have options for wheelchair accessible lavs. However, extremely few airlines have optioned this. People in wheelchairs either tend to have to wear diapers or avoid flights with narrowbodies -- which is pretty hard and sometimes you get downgauges. Its a serious accessibility issue, and it is disappointing that airlines have to be forced to accommodate people with disabilities. (Its also disappointing regulators look more than 20 years after the 757s started flying TATL to make this change.
This will change in the next few years. However, it will only apply in a few years and only new builds. Hundreds of maxes, LRs, and even XLRs will run for decades without this.
I just have to crouch and be uncomfortable. People in wheelchairs are holding it or worse.

I used to follow your content, but unfortunately, I can no longer do so.
    1. Your comment about "Africa's so-called best airline" comes across as unnecessarily sarcastic. What exactly do you mean by that? It seems your choice of exaggerated and out-of-proportion titles is aimed more at grabbing attention than fostering a meaningful opinion.
    2. Before making accusations of falsification, did you take the time to fully understand the situation? Speaking with the deadheading pilot or seeking clarification would have been a far more responsible approach.
    3. Regardless of your opinion, this airline was established long before you came into existence, and it has consistently proven itself as one of the best in many aspects globally. A shallow, few-second observation from you does not and cannot represent the experience of millions of loyal customers who continue to choose this airline for their travels.

Bernd Kai von Hoesslin, author of "Wasted Warning,' a pilot for ET, gives a vivid portrait of the airline's inner safety culture. A must read before judging the quality of their operation. This book cannot be dismissed as a shallow account. It convinced me beyond reasonable doubt that the company actively downplays and diverts attention away from its many safety deficits, such as their ridiculous comments on the flight 409 investigation.
However, it is only one source and I don't present this as anything more than a brief capsule review.

Josh makes an excellent point. Safety is the foundation of aviation, and adherence to safety instructions is non-negotiable for every passenger, especially for a pilot who serves as a role model and leader in ensuring safety. A pilot disregarding crew instructions raises questions about their professional judgment and respect for protocols.
If they can overlook simple safety measures as a passenger, it naturally begs the question: Are they just as complacent when in command of an aircraft? This behavior undermines the safety culture that airlines work so hard to maintain and could erode passenger trust in the industry.
What message does this send to other passengers or even fellow crew members? Strict compliance with safety procedures should be a shared responsibility, regardless of one’s position or title. This incident isn't just about one person-it reflects on the airline as a whole.
How would you feel flying with an airline if their pilots demonstrated such disregard for safety?

By the way, you were so excited to eat some butter chicken in the last episode 🤣Sorry... You're definitely not blessed with food poisoning.
I regularly fly Ethiopian on the BRU-ADD-JNB route. Honestly, I've never had a bad experience with them.
Okay, they are known for last-minute schedule changes and you shouldn't count too much on the type of plane that is initially scheduled. Their application is also pretty rotten. The communication from the airline is also awful; for instance; 3 schedule changes in 24 hours to finally return to the initial schedule and an email announcing my ADD-JNB flight as cancelled when I had just landed at JNB.
On this route, the service offerel by Ethiopian is at the level of European companies like BA or Lufthansa that I used before. But it's true that in terms of security, they are much less strict than other companies I have flown (for example, with Emirates, there is no question of keeping a cushion or a bag on your knees at the time of take-off when you are seated at the emergency exit row).
On the other hand, when it comes to emergency exits, they are much more uncompromising towards the passengers who sit there and expect a lot from them in the event of an incident. Each time, I am asked to read the instructions in the event of an evacuation; something I have never seen elsewhere. These seats should be cheaper given what they ask us to do 😂.
The seats in Cloud 9 are very comfortable on the 787 or A350. I just find the portions quite small in economy. I also avoid fish which at first seems good to me but which tends to upset my intestines a little.
What bothers me is the stopover in Addis which is sometimes a bit chaotic; for example at the controls. Gates B are sometimes overcrowded, which makes the general experience a bit unpleasant. It is good to know that everything is overpriced in this airport. Let's not talk about duty free which is a joke but if you are hungry, the cheapest hamburger at Burger King for example starts at 15 USD. And in the small shops, it is not better; 10 USD for a bottle of water and some chips. They do not like card payments too much and tend to keep the change when you pay in euros or dollars. It's really a shock these prices and these practices, especially when you come from Johannesburg for example.

This off duty pilot demonstrates a safety culture within a company that will never see my custom.

As long as you don’t routinely fly within Africa you don’t need to use Ethiopian Airlines.

LOL, no. There are reasons why the airline is top 1 in Africa. This guy content is just all about hating the airline. Stop being ridden like a sheep herd. Social media is all about personal satisfaction, they will say anything to get more views and $$

The actions of that one person doesn't define the whole airline, they are still the safest and best airline in Africa, and you can see from Josh's experience as he outlined at the end of the video he had a good experience with friendly crew good food and good transit experience!

@@ggzed952The action of this guy and the lack of action by the cabin crew absolutely defines the culture within the carrier imo.

Enjoyed the video:) Common misconception, but although by far the largest city in Tanzania, Dodoma is the country's official capital. Has been since 1996.

I’m usually against filming people in the work place, but this “pilot” deserves everything he gets. His entire demeanour is one of arrogance. Clearly the crew were too afraid to tell him to get his stuff together for landing. This is typical of a person who is entitled and only in their role via nepotism and corruption. Here you go Ethiopian, your entire image ruined thanks to this arrogant individual - is it worth having them? I have flown with people that have these attitudes, they are an even bigger nightmare inside the cockpit. Edit - I see someone saying he isn’t a pilot, it doesn’t matter if he is or isn’t. He is representing the company in his uniform and not arrogantly not complying with the rules.

Very disrespectful to his colleagues, his passengers and his company. Its all about him. Hope I never get him on a plane I am on.
Edit: I am a bus driver I would not flaunt the rules the way this guy does.

You make a very good point about the pilot ...how seriously does he take safety when he in the cockpit flying the plane.
