    Not too many shows leave me thinking about a certain scene, but this is one that truly did. Such hopelessness and despair. The look on Dora Mae's face is so damn creepy.

      No kidding! I saw this episode almost 6 years ago and this scene just came back to me out of nowhere so badly that even though id forgotten everything about this show that I found this clip with just two words: Carneval, Ghost. The shot closeup of her staring as the arm goes around her...exactly as I recall and as haunting as it was the first time.

      @@risac.8384 Doomed to an eternity of smelly miner rape. Existentially terrifying as well as plain old fashioned gross and scary.

      Seriously. They had the funeral and it was sad. But she stayed with the ghost miners as a “whore” for all eternity. It’s very unsettling. But that shows great writing potential.

      If it helps: season 3 would’ve seen the carnival return to Babylon where Dora Mae was basically “the queen of Babylon” and ruled over the miners and other ghosts.

    This scene hit me the most out of Carnivale. Not only did Dora Mae have a hard life but now in death? She's stuck in some sort of hellish limbo with a bunch of dead miners as they run a perpetual train her.

    Samson's face as he realizes what he's seeing, what it means. He's seen so much in his life, so many terrible things. He's had reason to believe that he understood human evil. He'd come to understand that his boss, Management, was something more than a man.
    But this, with this he knows for sure that there is a hell, and that Dora will never ever find any peace.
    Superb acting from Michael J. Anderson.

    She's supposed to be the ruler of the town, that's what the director told the actress.
    If the series continued, Babylon would have been revisited, and I'm sure Dora Mae would be back to expand upon her story.

    I remember seeing this episode and something about it felt eerily familiar. And then months later I watched The Shining and realizing that the evil of The Overlook Hotel and the town Babylon are one in the same.....you die there and you become a prisoner to that evil. Poor Dorah Mae....even her ghost has just become a shell of the girl she was in life 😢😔

    That actually completely put me off from the show - she was sexually assaulted, then brutally murdered and apparently was "condemned" without any guilt on her side (unless you believe that for being prostitute she deserved it) to be raped to the end of the time. It was really disgusting and misogynistic. I couldn't watch any more episode after this.

    • @Kalentros
      @Kalentros 8 ปีที่แล้ว +50

      My interpretation was that it had nothing to do with "guilt" or "innocence", but rather her having been murdered in the place where she was. The entire town was cursed and anyone who died there was stranded in a kind of limbo/hell. It's why Samson was so heartbroken seeing her. He knew that she didn't deserve what was happening to her but there was no way to save her.
      It's a shame you stopped watching because things got a lot more interesting after this episode.
