      Korn.
Because I like Corn... No, but seriously... I just love their music, helps me emotionally and I love the sound of Jonathan Davis. Definitely the teary eyed moment when you can feel his emotion. A lot of bands do this.. but Korn is just special and unique with it imo..

I think a band's first album or 2 (generally speaking) is always considered their best, but I think that is derived from a person's expectations. Bands grow and evolve. The things that are important to them change, therefore the subject matter of their songs change. Its a double edge sword. A band can remake the same song over and over again, and they get mocked for doing so. A band changes up their sound, and they're a sellout.

Using a band's fanbase as a reason to dunk on them is always a cheap shot, and not a good argument because its not a criticism of the band's music or its members and McKenty did a LOT of that in his video, but I do agree that a shitty fanbase can be a reason to avoid any band, my go-to examples of bands I genuinely love with deranged fanatics are Tool and Megadeth.
Also I would switch Korn with Slipknot because when Korn sucked they sucked HARD, from 2003 to 2011 it was Korn's lowpoint, Slipknot's worse is just meh, and I'd argue that they're massively improving since 2019.

I think PM5K should at least be C tier, especially if you take into account 'Anyone for Doomsday?'. That album was solid, if only it didn't get ripped off the shelves when a little thing called 9/11 occurred. Most of their albums since have been really inconsistent, so that would keep them firmly locked in C at best.

I would say that I agree with pretty much of this list and that it is more reasonable than Finn's list. It is interesting how some of the most important and long lasting nu metal bands aren't even nu metal, they only put out a couple of new metal albums: Linkin Park, Chevelle, Deftones and Disturbed. Linkin Park became an alternative rock band after two albums, Chevelle and Deftones became alternative metal bands after their first two albums, and Disturbed became a heavy metal band. Also, I don't really think that System of a Down was ever really a nu metal band as they had such a manic sound and outside influences that make them more of an alternative metal band in my opinion. I don't really have a problem with any of these bands being given the nu metal label, I just find it interesting how for most of their career the bands haven't been nu metal but people still label them as such.

Disturbed and Chevelle are not nu metal. They are more alt-metal.
And so many bands always get left out of these lists when it comes to Nu-Metal. I am 41 and was in my late teens, and early 20's through the beginnings, height of, and end of the first wave of nu-metal. I went to nu metal shows, both big and more underground. I was friends with some people in some nu metal bands. Brought in nu metal elements in to my first band from 99-2002. I was all about this genre. And its also exciting to see new bands bringing nu metal back. But as far as consistency, influence over a long period of time, influence during the height of nu metal and how bands sound today, and how much staying power some of these bands have not just when re-listening to them goes, but also how have they pushed themselves in terms of songwriting, creativity and taking what nu metal was and pushing it forward is how I came up with my list. Oh...and within my circle of friends back in the day who were in to nu metal, we all hated Papa Roach, and POD. lol They were too mainstream and polished. Seemed disingenuous and fake but they were talented nonetheless.

Great video man 🤘. Really like the concept of tierlisting whole genres. I'm not familiar with every band, but I'll share some of my thoughts:
Slipknot is my favourite nu metal band for sure and in my opinion they are at least as consistent as Korn. Korn definitely deserve its place, but they have few average albums (The path of totality, Untitled, Korn III). Personally, I would say that Slipknot has better instrumentation and vocals in comparison to Korn, but that's just my opinion. Slipknot to S-tier that's what I mean 😅.
I would also place Mushroomhead higher, strong B-tier is good place I think. They recorded some pretty decent albums( I especially like the "XIII") and they are definitely influencial band (when Slipknot released their debut, Mushroomhead were preparing their third album).
Deftones was never my cup of coffee, but probably I need some relistening (I checked their profile on rate your music and they have some incredibly high ratings 😮). Right now I would place them somewhere around low B-tier high C-tier.
The rest of the placements is on point for me. 🤘😎🤘

A little early putting Tallah on this list after one album imo. I liked Matriphagy but there is a lot of room for improvement regarding songwriting. Interesting band definitely. Maybe a little bit too much of everything at times - seems a little forced and over the top - especially the vocals … although he is a talented guy for sure. Their new song is all over the place, and not in a good way.
    My list would be:
    S: Slipknot
A: Korn, System of a Down
B: Mudvayne, Static X, Deftones, Soulfly
C: Coal Chamber, Taproot, Linkin Park, Sevendust, Kittie, Nonpoint
D: Hed PE, POD, Disturbed, Mushroomhead, Chevelle, Cold, Staind, Powerman 5000, Papa Roach, Limp Bizkit

  • @Remedy462

    Big Tirade:
So for Chevelle, they have a new metal sound, with the whole industrial rock grind, but I woul classify them as Alternative rock because they do go more for those grinding verses with uplifting, angelic choruses. What I always thought was amazing was Chevelle can write the most abstract and nonsensical lyrics, but I realized they were influenced by tool and they tried their own approach that doesn't correlate to their writing, but their singing transcends whatever they were scribbling. For Alternative rock, they get an S, for nu-metal they get a B or C. Give North Corridor a listen, that is where the more alternative metal sound truly resonates. I love, though it is overlong, Shot From A Cannon. I never want that song to end, even if it is feedback lol. Keep being Metal, Metal Trenches. ;)

Chevelle, SOAD, and Deftones are the best of the litter.
Deftones only made one legit Nu Metal song (the first song of White Pony, and you can argue Adrenaline sounding Nu-Metalish) and Chevelle was NEVER a Nu-Metal band. They were always Hard Rock.
Slipknot, Linkin Park, and Sevendust are runner ups.

Can't argue with this too much but I do have to say Slipknot's discography is sooo much more consistent and enjoyable than Korn's. Even their mid-slump is very good music; just not the peak of their career. Korn's late career slump is a dumpster fire. Even with that being the case Korn's early career work (up to Take a Look in the Mirror) is astounding so I'd put Slipknot and Korn both in S tier. Probably have to move Chevelle down to C-tier and the rest is good for me :P
