CISDs were only re-traumatizing when not following the model or using it on individuals. The Cochrane review articles you refer to were from studies that had poor methodology and didn't always used people trained in CISM or they used it on VICTIMS of the event rather than on the responders. CISD is the group model of crisis intervention whereas PFA is the individual model of crisis intervention. I'm trained in both, and in compassion fatigue, suicide prevention, among others. When used correctly, CISD and defusing are very effective in stabilizing, normalizing and providing education to those affected. It's also affective in reaching on of it's major objectives: re-establish group cohesion so that those affected can see that they are not alone in their feelings.
