    Hi
Sorry for not starting this video the usual way...
Actually, a treat for those looking for "silver bullets"... 😊
Anyway... this Mini had a non functional remote control...
The button inside the car, would lock and unlock the car just fine, but the remote was completely inoperative...
At glance, would blame the remote... but, was the remote?
Follow me on this video to find out what was the problem and how to resolve it.
    Hope you enjoy the video.
Any questions or comments put them below.
Like always, thank you for watching!

I had the same problem. BMW would not accept that there was this type of fault. Like you, i stripped down the mirror housing and found the same problem. Lukiley, the verdigris on the underside of the printed circuits was not that bad, I was able to clean with a circuit cleaner solution.. This solved the problem, all worked fine after reassembly. Must thank you for your video, very, very helpful. The water ingress was caused by collective condensation, above the mirror support arm and dripping down, through the arm, into the bottom of the mirror housing, so, if you've got water dripping from the bottom of your rear view mirror, then you know why your central locking and unlocking is not working

This is so useful. I've been having an intermittent issue with my R55. It's definitely not the remote. I'll look into the mirror now. Thanks for the video!

I've come across this a few times on R56 Minis. It's caused by a badly fitted windscreen letting water in alomg the top edge which then condenses on the steel of the cold roof. More than likely your car has had a replacement screen in the past.

Hm, was hoping this video would end up showing a problem that could be mine too, but it seems not. I have no signs of water ingresss in my 2008 Clubman with the panoroof. Also the key fob works about half the time. It seems to most commonly work shortly after driving the car, so i think it's a near-dead battery. Why on earth arent these user replaceable?!
I can't believe module failure due to significant water damage is cheaper to fix than a simple cell battery replacement...

    • @LMAutoRepairs

Makes sense... as if the battery is the rechargeable ones, straight after driving the key might have stored some charge, enough for some usages...

Thank you so much for this video. I had already discovered the module in the rear view mirror and also found the connector to be corroded. Cleaned up all the connections and it worked once then stopped working. Ordered a spare mirror hoping the board wasn't coded. Any way it didn't work. But your tips about what voltage was on what wire helped me out. I had no 12 volts so started checking fuses and fuse 26 in the footwell 5amp was blown. Replaced and central locking all working now off the key. Thanks very much.

Yesterday I had an event where the key suddenly stopped working and would not unlock the doors. By bringing the key very close to the vehicle on the front (on the side where the main battery is located) It works and open the locks. When I got home I tried again and everything was working correctly and I could open and close the doors from a distance of 4 meters. It seems like a false contact, I'm going to check my mirror. Or can be another cause this behaivor??
