TIPS ON PUMPING GAS
I don't know what you guys are paying for gasoline.... My line of work is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are some tricks to get more of your money's worth for every gallon:
Here at the Kinder Morgan Pipeline where I work in San Jose , CA we deliver about 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period thru the pipeline.. One day is diesel the next day is jet fuel, and gasoline, regular and premium grades. We have 34-storage tanks here with a total capacity of 16,800,000 gallons.
✅ Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening....your gallon is not exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role.
A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.
✅ When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3) stages: low, middle, and high. You should be pumping on low mode, thereby minimizing the vapors that are created while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping on the fast rate, some of the liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you're getting less worth for your money.
✅ One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank is HALF FULL. The reason for this is the more gas you have in your tank the less air occupying its empty space. Gasoline evaporates faster than you can imagine. Gasoline storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the gas and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service stations, here where I work, every truck that we load is temperature compensated so that every gallon is actually the exact amount.
✅ Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the storage tanks when you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up; most likely the gasoline is being stirred up as the gas is being delivered, and you might pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom.

Since gas prices have gone up, I actually found out about this app from TikTok. The reviews are pretty good. I used this app on Friday 6/3/22 and I have already received my cash back on the app. Who doesn't like getting cash back? I think this is awesome. Especially when gas prices are going up and they are not coming back down.

Hey Bud, I appreciate you taking the time to explain the entire process of this application. I recently decided to give it a shot after hearing raving reviews from a friend of mine. Trouble is I have attempted to enter the first six and last four of my debit card more times than I can count. It just keeps bouncing back between two screens. Verify and Done. Even more troubling is the bot they have to troubleshoot and answer questions. The only thing that's good for is elevation frustration and anger levels... LoL. I am glad to have found your video, because now I know I can go to the gas station and follow the steps. Apparently the application allows us to add a card to the wallet that way also. As you so kindly explained. I'll let you know how that works at the very next opportunity.
I've just downloaded the Upside app after switching from GasBuddy who have been messing me around for the past month and I'm done missing out on savings at the pump. I have attempted to use this app several times in the past few days and had problems every time. In my area, we don't have 87, 89, etc. octane gasoline. Most of the pumps have 87 with ethanol and 87 without ethanol. I also have a few vehicles that require premium. I prefer no ethanol and am willing to pay the extra cost. Upside does not appear to allow me to select the choice I want at the pump and I think that it where my problems come in. Further, scanning a receipt while standing next to a motorcycle is a real pain. Perhaps if I only used one grade of gasoline it would work better. I'm glad it works for you.

Be careful using certain fuel stations & your "Debit Card" tied to your bank account. Many will put a '$200 Hold' on your bank account for 24hrs minimum whether you get $20 worth of fuel or $100. I know it sucks but Bucees in TX is bad for doing this!
If you pay at the teller? Your good. I learned the hard way, this has nothing to do with Upside.. if your living day to day like many of us are, you need that money at all times.
It just depends on the Gas station & if you pay using Debit at the Pump.
I use my Kroger Fuel Points. I just got fuel yesterday at $1 off a gallon paying $2.89, not $3.89 a gallon.
When Trump was in Office, I was paying less than a $1 a gal every using my fuel points to fill up but this will vary depending on where your located.
I'm South of Houston TX, the Oil & Gas Producing Capital where fuel is cheaper than most places

I bought gas at WaWa two weeks ago, using my credit card...no Upside App used. WaWa put a @ 125 "hold" on my credit card for 5 days.
@@pcollenyt3683 well I’ve never had any issues with that at all. They may hold $1 max. I’ve had a debit card since I was 16 and a credit card since I was 23. Never had any issues with that at all. Maybe $1 hold like I said. Or they just take it immediately
When trump was in office gas was cheap cause the early part of the pandemic was starting. I remember driving to work and the roads were empty from lockdown.
I remember thinking “big oil” will get it back eventually, and here we are.
I’ve only ever had $1 hold at a time, that sounds crazy.

So it all depends if there r any offers at a gas station in the first place ? I mean I am looking at the app map now and I see only restaurants …. Gas offers seem far away …. Does that happen sometimes ?

Ok. That was helpful. I guess I can contact the Upside support, but I have two cars. Do I have to change that gas type each time I gas up a different vehicle because I use Premium on my car and regular in my truck.
You should be able to use it on any car. If you link your card with the app then when you use the app to claim an offer then it should automatically after using your card. You may need to submit a receipt at some places but that is much fewer places now
Do I have to pay @ pump? Or can I use my card INSIDE? These shell stations in Bradenton, FL are shady

Depends on the gas station or store . Sometimes it asks for receipt but most time it doesnt
@@deluxeaf9247 Thanks for the clarification. I used the app today for the first time at an Exxon and I had to take a photo of the receipt and submit it. However, it was very quick (took less than 30 seconds) and I was able to do it before I left the gas station.

Yes you can do it that way. Most stations you go to won’t need the receipt when claiming the reward, you just need to use one of the cards you linked it with and the info when checking in. Some will still need a receipt that all you need to do is snap the picture of that receipt after checking in but that’s becoming less and less and Upsides tech is getting better.

That you would have to try. I haven’t tried a gift card so I’m not sure but if you put it on and able to claim, let us know! When it comes to the who pumps the gas, that didn’t matter as long as you claim the reward and check in or need to submit a receipt.
So there is no need to scan receipt? How does the system know how much I spent on gas?
It's been almost a week and I still haven't gotten my cash back on gas.
I don't know why but upside only offers me cash back for for mid grade gas. I don't use mid grade I use regular so mid grade is 10 to 15 cents higher than regular which is somewhere or at or above the cash back offer. I don't know if anybody else has this but I don't see any reason to spend 10 cents more on a gallon of gas to get 8 cents back.

You have to take a picture of the receipt.
“Check in no longer required” my app says now. It says I should click on “I’ve paid” once I’ve done so, but I see no such option.

I don't remember connecting a card to upside. I just remember having to take pictures of my receipt. I drive a box truck at my job so when I filled my tank at shells i used this app. After a while the app started rejecting my receipts so i got frustrated and deleted the app sense it was taking up space and no longer useful.

I use the Lyft app that uses the Upside Gas but I never get the Upside savings. It’s upsetting! Where is there a tutorial on how to get BOTH as Lyft advertises.
I’ve used this 3 time and each time I’ve been waiting for my cash back and after like a week it says it has expired I don’t understand.
I’m very confused. I uploaded my card, I claimed the offer but the steps your showing here didn’t happen for me. Why would ANYBODY ever get gas from a Shell!? They’re always the absolute most expensive gas around.
Unfortunately with the current gas crisis. They removed the discount.
I can fill up at Sam’s Club or Costco for the same net price and don’t have to wait 12 to 24 hours. Most of my family or friends fill up at the clubs so it would not make sense to try to refer them to this app.
Sams club and Costco is now the exact same price as regular gas stations so this is not the case in Indianapolis.
That's cool if you have a Costco or Sam's Club near. A good chunk of the year we are noplace near either.
Same here in south of Houston. I had $1.30 off per gallon saved from my Kroger Fuel Points. That's instant $1.30 off but I can use 10c, 20, 40, or all of it.
I've used GetUpSide twice now to fill up. Once it cost me $50, then $60. My total savings is $6. Just not worth it unless you drive for a living or have a long commute to work. I'll stick with my Grocery store fuel Point Rewards 😛
@@Mike_The_Hog_A_Nator IF you live in an area and can do that it's probably a good plan. BUT if you travel the country and don't stay in a area long enough to get loyalty point in a program like that it's just not worth it to try. GETUPSIDE works all over the country and it's instant enough for us. Thanks for your input.

The gas station owners manipulate the prices and when you change the price and drive away I've seen the price magically change back to the cheaper price which in turn brings more business to their gas station. Plus many of the process reported are inaccurate in general causing you to drive farther when you find out the gas isn't the actual cheaper price when you get their. Forcing you to either leave in search of the cheaper price or forcing you to stay to pay the more expensive price not actually listed on the app.
I have literally driven to 3 different gas stations, put in the actual real price at the pump which was more expensive than advertised, and then driven off and within a few minutes seem the old cheaper dishonest price 🤦, I live up in the woodlands and just go to Costco or Sam's Club.
So here’s the thing… UpSide gives different instructions, such as scan your receipt (??)

I noticed when I first joined Upside the app asked me what octane I want to use and save on when setting up my account. I like to use 87 octane every 3 fill ups and on the fourth fill up, I like to use premium or 91 octane. Is it possible to choose any octane you want to use for a purchase?
You can choose your fuel at the time of purchase.
My question is how is this company benefiting from us saving money on gas?
So I download the app and all the gas stations were $.20 a gallon I use it once now everything is one penny a gallon what’s up with that?
How long were you using the app before that happened? I think its only like that the first few times and then like 5 or 6 cents a gallon.
