  • Doing a run through of the overlaps and differences of the Lovepedal Mosferatu and Dover Drive. A lot of similar territory covered here but some great tones all around.
    0:27 - clean tone
    1:13 - Mosferatu (humbucker)
    1:45 - Dover Drive (humbucker)
4:20 - Comparable tones from both
5:45 - Single coils (who doesnt love a good Floyd Riff?!)

The Dover Drive. Just two days ago I saw this pedal for the first time. For sale, second hand. I liked the simple graphic design, which is something I have a weak spot for as someone who worked as a graphic designer. I also saw these pedals are made by Hermida Audio and I know they make some good quality stuff, so for the last 48 hours I spent my time searching for sound examples on TH-cam. A lot of those samples are too old to have a good quality, but the newer ones were often great and besides, even with a poor sound quality of these videos, you can still hear the quality of the Dover Drive, which is deadly for an overdrive addict like me. I have lots of great overdrives, but this is more than ‘just’ an overdrive. This goes into fuzz territory. And oddly enough, I’m not a huge fan of fuzz pedals, but this thing has got me hooked. It doesn’t leave me alone. I can’t sleep, especially because I know I can get a second hand one. I don’t know yet how much the seller wants for it, but the only new one I could find in Europe costs 265 euros. Unfortunately, that’s a bit too much for me. I already bought an old Hot Cake and a new Fairfield Circuitry Barbershop v.2 in the last two weeks. I’m sick. But I need it. 😰
However, this video you made popped up and I saw that you uploaded this only 23 hours ago when I began watching it. I noticed one thing (I’m going to digress for a minute), you and I seem to have one thing in common. I think we share a preference for a lot of higher mids in our amps and settings. Where most people leave the tone control on the Dover Drive at noon or below that, you had it set on 3 o clock, which is probably where I would set it as well. And not because you need to make up for a lack of high end on your amps, because you have those set bright too.
I’m the same. And in all honesty, even though it sounds amazing in the room and even better in a band situation, it’s actually not a very pleasing sound by itself. For the sake of this video it might be a good idea to change some settings for a more realistic result. Just saying.
Anyway, I really really really liked this video and if I don’t have this pedal next week, I’ll be pissed for a month at least.
Keep up the good work! Love from the Netherlands. 🧡🧡🧡😎👍

Thanks so much for the kind words. If you get the chance don’t forget to like and subscribe!
Lovepedal is selling it on their site right now new for $200. I’m not sure what the cost would be to you after conversion, but that’s always an option!
The dover drive is excellent being a massive Gilmour and Eric Johnson fan I’ve always loved the BK Butler Tube Driver that it’s based off. That’s prominently where both their respective lead tones come from.
The Dover has quite a bit of low end so I find leaving the tone control higher tames it a bit. I also like having a decent amount of high end on my neck pickup playing which in turn lets the bridge pickup really bite. Being brighter can make bad notes really stand out but in a band context it’s important to have that high end. Most bedroom players love that warm smooth tone and it sounds great on its own but unfortunately gets lost when you add in bass and drums.

Man, I heard some near identical Eric Johnson tones in there. I’m sure you were doing that by design, and thank you for this vid! (I have both these pedals, and both the Germanium & Silicon DD, and love ‘em!!)

I haven’t tried the silicone yet but it’s on my list to buy so I can do a comparison video. The EJ tones are definitely intentional he was a huge influence when I was learning to play.
