Ketchup is from 茄汁, literally meaning "tomato juice"/"tomato smoothie" not "tomato sauce" (which would end up being the same as tomato paste, which is 茄醬, kecheung/kejeung, because by definition sauce = 醬, for lack of a better word) if using today's diet, health & exercise vocabulary but to be correct, tomato paste is 茄醬, kecheung/kejeung, so a new word might be created if someone has to translate ketchup into Cantonese today. 茄汁, ketchup, could only be translated as "tomato sauce" when thinking of it as a "dipping sauce." Sauce is actually 醬汁 but then 汁 is not used for "soy(a) sauce" in Chinese.
