Psalm 1 Lyrics:
oh the joy, the joy, the joy
of those who delight in the law of the lord
oh the joy, the joy, the joy of those
who meditate day and night in the law of the lord
let all my delight be only in
your sweet and right instruction
like trees along the river with leaves that never wither
everything they do will prosper in you

Just heard of this channel today. Listened to Psalm 1 with my 20 month old daughter, and it's the first time I could noticeably tell she was trying to sing the words of a song! She would pick out a word and try to copy it, especially "joy"
Wow. Daniel. That is so incredibly beautiful. And what an honor! Thank you for sharing this!
The first day of October I go to Church and come back and I find Poor Bishop Hooper! What a way to start my month!!
This has become my favorite running playlist. What better to meditate than on His word....day and night!!!! Thank you!!!
Glad you enjoy it!
"Oh the joy, the joy, the joyyyyy .... of those who meditate day and night in the law of the Lord." Constantly looping through my head and heart, exactly as it should be!! What a treasure these songs are, truly. What a gift. Thank you.
Thank you Kate! We're so happy it's been a blessing to you!
For me it's "like trees along the river with leaves that never wither". Wonderful loops. Beautiful loops...
These are an absolute inspiration from our Lord. Have just spent five hours and forty minutes listening to the all of the Psalms that have already been completed. (now as far as Psalm 82). They work so well together as the high points are just enough to capture the really deep and profound moments and the ones between help to build to the next high. It can only be the Spirit of God bringing unity through diversity. Each Psalm is unique but there are recurring themes which you really only catch by listening in one sitting. Sometimes listening to an individual Psalm it may seem to end in a odd place. Those all make sense when we hear how the Psalms connect to each other. The melodic invention is always fresh and inspired. If a Psalm does not immediately grab you listen to the ones around it and it will fall into place. Use of modern "classical" composition techniques as well as popular forms and styles with good old fashioned hymn singing make for an eclectic mix. It is also amazing that the limited palette of instruments is never boring but has a unifying and stabilising effect. There are just enough Psalms with expanded instrumentation interspersed among them to keep interest. The new instruments that are added are there for a purpose dictated by the theme of the Psalm in which they appear. Each week when a new Psalm is released I start listening to the last ten Psalms to hear how it fits in context. But in listening to all in one sitting I was surprised how many of the early ones that I hadn't listened to for a while felt really familiar. These Psalms get under your skin and into the subconscious for now reading the Psalms in scripture I hear these versions reinforcing the words. The blend of voices is superb and the accuracy of pitch is quite remarkable considering how complex the tunes are at times though there is always an underlying simplicity of execution which adds to the experience of worship. Both voices are beautiful and nuanced and it is clear that they both are connected deeply to the words they sing for their sincerity comes across. There is a sustained spiritual depth and after the experience a profound sense of Jesus is felt, even though His name is not mentioned once for the Psalms were written before He was born. I look forward the completion of this project and it is a blessing to hear that music does not have to depend on the same old formula of dramatic development through sheer volume. God is still at work in providing nourishment for His church and exciting us to praise Him for His goodness. May you both continued to be blessed as you work together and find the unity that God has brought you together to create for Him.
Wonderful idea. Ian, thank you for sharing this.
I too have just discovered this channel. What a beautiful Christian family you are as and what a beautiful blessed project you have dedicated yourselves to.
Thank you and may God bless you all. 🙏
Bless you guys and may the Lord continue to breathe His sweet life over and into you.

Thank you!
"Who walk not in the counsel of the wicked"!!!
This is my new favorite song!
Have loved this for probably over a year now, memorized it myself, and now helping my 3 and 4 year olds memorize it. They love it! It’s so simple and musically appealing and makes a great Scripture memory tool.
Sent here by the Biblical Mind podcast!
Micah. Great to hear. It was such an honor to be on the podcast!
I was introduced to your lovely music on today's Bible Project podcast. May God bless your family and music as it has blessed me.
Thanks David!
Me too!
Same! I had to look y’all up after hearing you on the Bible project!
Same! 🙌💖

Psalm 1:1-6 NKJV
Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; [2] But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. [3] He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper. [4] The ungodly are not so, But are like the chaff which the wind drives away. [5] Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. [6] For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the ungodly shall perish.
oh the joy, the joy, the joy
of those who delight in the law of the lord
oh the joy, the joy, the joy of those
who meditate day and night in the law of the lord
let all my delight be only in
your sweet and right instruction
like trees along the river with leaves that never wither
everything they do will prosper in you

You're welcome! Glad it's been a blessing.
I hope they know how much their music is blessing people!!!!
Great. Songs based off scripture.
I just can’t say how much of a blessing these songs are.
I’ve only just found these and am thrilled to listen to Ps 1 and look forward so much to listening to more of these, possibly with my grandchildren.
this is a favorite of my 4 year-old granddaughter. We have made up hand-motions even, and always wait for Leah's "swoop" with great anticipation!
Clean, beautiful voice. And then the subtle change up around 2:55 with the walk up chord progression. Much like reading the Word, the more I listen to this song, the more I find to love. Outstanding! All glory to God for the gift of song!
I totally agree 👍
@davekpghpa I totally agree 👍
Thanks so much for the kind words!
@@PoorBishopHooper You're most certainly welcome. And thank you for all your work and going through the Psalms. I play bass in a worship group and I'm hoping that we can work this song into our rotation. I'm in a gospel preaching Church, and maybe we can work it in with an appropriate sermon.
Wow, beautiful! Thank you.
I've been wheelchair dependent for 33+. I started listening to "the songs of psalms" a couple of years ago during two back to back one month hospital stays. These songs are so filled with the Holy Spirit. I have a Poor Bishop Hooper play list on Spotify that I listen to all time. I pull up the lyrics and sing along so much that I remember every word to many of your songs. Thank you for helping me cope though some really tough times.
Thank you for sharing this Jerry! So glad the music has been a blessing to you.
These songs you wrote based on the psalms are gold. I have been loving listening to all of them! Keep up the great work!
I found a slip have you seen Psalms 121 on Facebook and I ended up here.
Must be for a reason.
Your whole project is amazing. Thank you for this blessing. Music and worship has helped me so much in my prayers especially in the midst of my anxiety and depression. God has used this to help me especially in those times to pray and let Him draw close to me. Thank you.
Bible Project sent us here :) Bravo.
What a GREAT use of time during the lockdown! Well done!
I really like what you guys are doing! Your style is soothing and melodic and helps me enjoy the scriptures in a fresh way. That’s quite a goal to do all 150. I’ve been working on some Psalms word for word to music too, but I’ve only got 14 in 4 years :-) I’m excited to hear more of what y’all are creating! May God continue to bless you and your ministry!
Zac, thanks for the encouragement! You keep writing as well. It's a worth-while goal, and we love that more and more folks are singing the scriptures!
These are absolutely amazing. It is very touching what you are doing. May God continue to bless you. I love it. O the joy of those who delight in the law of the Lord.
Thank you so much for the encouragement!
SO thankful for this work! Praise God for His musical gifts and your initiative to produce these.
I’ve shared your music/website with friends who send comments every day, “have you listened to…”, and I too am taken with your work, especially the Psalms. God bless your ministry.
AMAZING GOD BLESS YOU GUYS
I just found you via Amazon music. Praise God! You are absolutely blessing generations!!
The "TRANSCRIPT" needs to be corrected ASAP...nice music🙏🏽
Bless you and this ministry work.
It’s something I’ve always wished someone would do. I’ve imagined the songs Paul sang in prison in Phillipi to be psalms.
Thank you, may you be blessed In this long work. Stay strong! It’s a long task ahead but this will be a blessed journey with Jesus.
Thank you for the encouragement Jonathan!
❤
I love what your doing with the Psalms. The word of God is alive and true and your voices are very annointed! The presence of the Lord fills the atmosphere. I'm waiting for knee replacement and listening to EveryPsalm before they come get me .
Frances! Thank you so much for this encouragement! Hope the surgery went well. We're praying for your recovery!
o the joy!
Love love love this one!
I would call this one, "Psalm 1,The Blessings" just because it reflects the editorial license taken. This was very nice btw.
Beautiful! Awesome project! ❤️❤️🙏🏼
beautiful! thank you:)
Truly Beautiful! ❤
That was beautiful.
That flat III chord just after 3 minutes - so tasty :)
beautiful, beautiful harmonies. Great enough, but then, at 2:56, y'all start this CRAZY chord progression that just SO activates the dopamine receptors of my brain! What is it? Can you talk about it? Are there even words for such magic? How can I talk about it? Because I sure want to talk about it! Oh, how I wish I had not let myself be talked out of taking music theory classes ...
Will! Thank you so much for your encouragement and comments. They're so kind! They certainly help us keep going. We'd love to send you a chart for this song with the chords if you're interested. You can email us, or download the chart at the bottom of this page: www.everypsalm.com/music/psalm-1
@@PoorBishopHooper so many months later, I'm still getting chills from this. It was hard to get out of bed and start the day, but God, now, seems not so far away...
Really nice voice. Reminds me of Joanna Newsom
Thanks Caleb! Leah receives that compliment!
Hi guys! As you can tell from the name of our humble channel, our names are Mark and Emma Rooney. We were wandering would it be at all possible to feature your music in some upcoming Christian cinematic projects we are working on? We are small film-makers from Ireland who are seeking to magnify Christ through cinematic video as well as reach the Island of Ireland with the Gospel. We would of course credit you by including you not only in the description of our video or comments but in the actual video via credits. We understand you guys may not wish to do so, or find out more about us and our theological convictions before progressing further. But if you guys would be interested please do let us know. We would love to share your ministry with our small audience.
Lord bless

How do you pick what you’ll include in your song from each psalm? I noticed on my second listening that the ungodly like the chaff don’t feature at all…..

Do you guys sell your sheet music?
send us an email and we'll send charts your way: poorbishophooper@gmail.com
They have a lovely hymnal now
Just a consideration: why not try to sing as much as possible of the text? Especially when it is so short. And what translation are you inspired by?
Michael. Thanks for the suggestion. We try and let the Spirit lead on as much of this as we can, including the writing. In turn, some of the songs are lyrically short, others long... We try and bounce through a few different translations, ESV, Holman, and old NIV...
