Before the imposition of the siege on Iraq in the year 91, Iraq had the strongest army in the Middle East, and every Iraqi family was getting 12 food items for free, and farmers in Iraq and Iraq were supported by drugs, and every Iraqi citizen was getting a salary of no less About 4000 dollars, but because of the embargo on Iraq in 91 and then the war in 2003, everything in Iraq was destroyed, and so far the Bush administration has not been punished. Is there any particular reason that Saddam hussein built his palace in Babylon

Hello Dear,
There is no main reason for Saddam Hussein to build his palace in Babylon. He had previously built palaces in separate areas of Baghdad and throughout Iraq, such as Tikrit and Basra. He built the Babylon Palace during the war with Kuwait, and perhaps he wanted to show the world that he was strong in fighting that war, and the most likely possibility He wanted to give himself the image of the mighty great man who could control the whole world, deriving that from the ancient kings of Babylon, such as Nebuchadnezzar, who ruled the world previously. This is evident from the statues and pictures that were of Saddam in his palace, which show Saddam as one of the ancient kings of Babylon.

Great video as usual. You should have visited both Ur and Uruk too since even the name of Iraq is thought to be driven from them (3800 BC). If you are interested there are hundreds of arcological sites in Iraq most of them are either neglected or unexcavated yet. The national museums also are another fun places to visit.

Hi Doug, great video, thanks ! Just a few thoughts : 1) The rite with all women of Babylon having to sleep with the priester before getting married is most likely a legend, and is considered very unrealistic by historians 2) It's a pity the thousands of fragments of Ishtar's Gate were carried to Germany, but there it took years to solve that mind-breaking puzzle, and they are still well protected. The Iraqi National Museum was looted 20 years ago (90% of the items are still missing) and the political situation still makes it quite risky for archeological items that made it to the sunlight 3) Unfortunately the Polish and American Army had the appalling idea to set up a camp on the site in the last decades, and therefore digged in the ground and filled barricades with ground potentially containing remains of a civilization that were 3000 years old...
