I just re-watched this without any interruption. I have to say...this was one of the Best bruce lee uploads ever! Even though he was an extra...we got a lot of info on the casting and rehearsal that No One would know unless you were there! This was great to see!
Interesting that he said Bruce never hit him during the fight scenes and pretty much treated the stuntmen very well. Much different than what QT says. All first hand accounts have the interviewee saying that Bruce treated the stuntmen well.

I have always hoped someone will interview laypersons, ordinary folks, unknown peoples who came across Bruce Lee and what you do Charles, is kind of closest to that. Bruce also had much more experience filming fight scenes by the time he filmed Return. He was actually a bit rough around the edges when filming for The Green Hornet. So, there may be some truth to Bruce making physical contact with stuntmen when he started back then. But I found Quentin took liberties to exaggerate Bruce's story in order to hype his own movie.

On his weekly podcast last October, John mentioned he needed help moving some large pieces of furniture. Since I was experienced, I offered to help. I drove some gear from VT to NYC area and got the job done. I wound up staying overnight and he gave me a signed copy of his book, We Are Doomed. It was a great experience and he's indeed a real gentlemen, and very interesting to talk to.

Amazing, this is really special.. To have any star that was in a Bruce Lee film with Bruce ! John can give infor or perspectives that any history book doesn't have. Anyone that was in Bruce's presence now at this point is just amazing and go further to be in one of Bruce's greatest films. Bruce's physical condition was at his peak and muscle mass still lean before he started losing it on Enter The Dragon.

Well yet again that did not disappoint. So interesting to hear what Bruce was like on a personal level. Everyone said he ran a very relaxed set as can be seen in the Game of Death photos and clips as well. I particularly liked the advice not to move forward will he was kicking, as well as the motivational speech of pissing in his beer.🍺Special mention to Edgar for his superb lobby card design. Final mention on us getting everything late. Kung Fu didn't come out here in the UK until 1974 and also Peter said he watched Longstreet. But only the pilot episode without Bruce and with another actor playing Duke was shown in my area. So we really had to catch up. Luckily KFM more than made up for it.😁👍🐉

John Derbyshire was right. Bruce Lee's passing was not that big of a story. He died before the release of Enter the Dragon and Return of the Dragon wouldn't be released for another year. So only a small group of people, market wise, saw his first two films in the U.S. He was barely known here. I found out about his passing in a small newspaper article that mentioned his death. I don't think it even made TV news at all.
Bruce's death was mentioned on the BBC Six O'Clock News at the time. I remember watching it with my Dad, and he TV newscaster said Kung Fu star Bruce Lee was found dead in his house. They didn't know at the time it was actually the actress Betty Ting Pei's flat he was found in. It was a Mega Shock at the time.. Barry Norman also mentioned Bruce's death on his Film 73 show. Dickie Davies mentioned it on ITV and later showed a clip from Game of Death where Bruce fought the Hapkido Master.
Another great episode, Charles. I love hearing all the back stories from the lesser known actor's from Bruce's movie's. It just goes to show the professionalism of Bruce. The way he is very welcoming,and keeping newcomer's in relaxed state,in his very charming way. That alone,is a great talent of gentlemanly conduct.It lets you know,the legacy of Bruce is going to be around for good. Thanks again Charles. All the best from Bonnie Scotland.

My favorite Bruce Lee movie is Way of the Dragon AKA Return of the Dragon. I always liked John's reaction to the dart going through his hand and his reaction when Bruce kicked him over the chair! I always wondered about Bruce Lee's battle cries, because as was mentioned in the interview, movies were dubbed in Hong Kong back in those days. It was great to finally find out that the battle cries were really his! This was a really awesome episode!

Nice interview 👍 Charles the karate instructor 李錦坤 Larry Lee Gam-Kwan who is also in the black and white footage wearing a black suit has film of Bruce’s demonstration. Not sure why he hasn’t released this to the public. He runs a karate school in Hong Kong. He also starred in many Kung Fu films from back in the day. Quick note: Sammo Hung was working with Larry on the film “Mandarine Magician” when he got the call from Bruce to film the intro fight scene from Enter the Dragon.

Amazing that many extras on the set had one way or the other, felt a strong presence of Bruce in meeting or sharing ideas on the set of WOTD. More recently more news have come out that Bruce died from multi organ failure. What a shame. I always thought bruce definitely had underlying health issues, and more recently he had kidney problems.
I guess there were were lots of contributing factors to his death! Very sad and unfortunate we lost him so young Thanks glad you enjoyed and see you tomorrow for another Bruce Lee short! Enjoy!

That isn't Bruce's real voice in Enter The Dragon - the audio was damaged or affected in some way. If I remember correctly he's dubbed by John Little. You can hear his real voice in The Green Hornet etc.

John Leto dubbed the monk scene that was released 25 years after the film was made in 1998 for the 25th anniversary event to the dragon. This is going to be great from someone who actually was directed by Bruce. One thing that always struck me was, (and no offence intended to John) apart from the big guy in the red vest, none of the Bosses thugs looked particularly menacing. Perhaps because there were not may gwalios in Hong Kong to hire at that time. Still will be interesting to hear his stories.👍
JW: John Derbyshire here. I have to agree. Looking at us lined up there, we don't appear very thuggish, more like a bunch of young office workers. There weren't THAT many young foreigners hanging loose in 1972 HK though, and most were college students "doing" the Far East. The Casting Director went with what he'd got, I guess.

I wonder what happened to the rest of the thugs? This guy's scene appeared in the movie trailer too. It was funny during the scene where the black guy said , "I want some chinese spare ribs". When they dubbed that, they didn't have that actor present to do it. So Bruce dubbed the voice. Hilarious.

I just re-watched this without any interruption. I have to say...this was one of the Best bruce lee uploads ever! Even though he was an extra...we got a lot of info on the casting and rehearsal that No One would know unless you were there! This was great to see!

Interesting that he said Bruce never hit him during the fight scenes and pretty much treated the stuntmen very well. Much different than what QT says. All first hand accounts have the interviewee saying that Bruce treated the stuntmen well.

I have always hoped someone will interview laypersons, ordinary folks, unknown peoples who came across Bruce Lee and what you do Charles, is kind of closest to that. Although I certainly appreciate them, but I feel there is mostly celebrities, other well known people talking about Bruce Lee but any person alive who definitely met Bruce Lee in any capacity is most worthy of being interviewed and personally at this time, kind of prefer this over yet another celebrity talking about Bruce Lee (not that I don't appreciate any info about Bruce Lee especially If authentic and true)

Bruce also had much more experience filming fight scenes by the time he filmed Return. He was actually a bit rough around the edges when filming for The Green Hornet. So, there may be some truth to Bruce making physical contact with stuntmen when he started back then. But I found Quentin took liberties to exaggerate Bruce's story in order to hype his own movie.

On his weekly podcast last October, John mentioned he needed help moving some large pieces of furniture. Since I was experienced, I offered to help. I drove some gear from VT to NYC area and got the job done. I wound up staying overnight and he gave me a signed copy of his book, We Are Doomed. It was a great experience and he's indeed a real gentlemen, and very interesting to talk to.

I smashed the like button for this one. However just one small request Charles, can you let your important guess finish talking before interrupting them when they're in mid flow. I know you're probably just as excited as we all are and you interrupt them because of your enthusiasm to ask questions but I can't help to feel I've missed out on something when they don't finish what they started, who knows, they might just ramble on and tell us something even more interesting. Amazing, this is really special.. To have any star that was in a Bruce Lee film with Bruce ! John can give infor or perspectives that any history book doesn't have. Anyone that was in Bruce's presence now at this point is just amazing and go further to be in one of Bruce's greatest films. Bruce's physical condition was at his peak and muscle mass still lean before he started losing it on Enter The Dragon.

Well yet again that did not disappoint. So interesting to hear what Bruce was like on a personal level. Everyone said he ran a very relaxed set as can be seen in the Game of Death photos and clips as well. I particularly liked the advice not to move forward will he was kicking, as well as the motivational speech of pissing in his beer.🍺Special mention to Edgar for his superb lobby card design. Final mention on us getting everything late. Kung Fu didn't come out here in the UK until 1974 and also Peter said he watched Longstreet. But only the pilot episode without Bruce and with another actor playing Duke was shown in my area. So we really had to catch up. Luckily KFM more than made up for it.😁👍🐉

John Derbyshire was right. Bruce Lee's passing was not that big of a story. He died before the release of Enter the Dragon and Return of the Dragon wouldn't be released for another year. So only a small group of people, market wise, saw his first two films in the U.S. He was barely known here. I found out about his passing in a small newspaper article that mentioned his death. I don't think it even made TV news at all.
I saw It on a Special Program of Film 73 with Barry Norman. A whole show showing clips from His Movies, just a few days after His Passing.
Bruce's death was mentioned on the BBC Six O'Clock News at the time. I remember watching it with my Dad, and he TV newscaster said Kung Fu star Bruce Lee was found dead in his house. They didn't know at the time it was actually the actress Betty Ting Pei's flat he was found in. It was a Mega Shock at the time.. Barry Norman also mentioned Bruce's death on his Film 73 show. Dickie Davies mentioned it on ITV and later showed a clip from Game of Death where Bruce fought the Hapkido Master.
Another great episode, Charles. I love hearing all the back stories from the lesser known actor's from Bruce's movie's. It just goes to show the professionalism of Bruce. The way he is very welcoming,and keeping newcomer's in relaxed state,in his very charming way. That alone,is a great talent of gentlemanly conduct.It lets you know,the legacy of Bruce is going to be around for good. Thanks again Charles. All the best from Bonnie Scotland.

My favorite Bruce Lee movie is Way of the Dragon AKA Return of the Dragon. I always liked John's reaction to the dart going through his hand and his reaction when Bruce kicked him over the chair! I always wondered about Bruce Lee's battle cries, because as was mentioned in the interview, movies were dubbed in Hong Kong back in those days. It was great to finally find out that the battle cries were really his! This was a really awesome episode!

Larry Lee Gam-Kwan who is also in the black and white footage wearing a black suit has film of Bruce’s demonstration. Not sure why he hasn’t released this to the public. He runs a karate school in Hong Kong. He also starred in many Kung Fu films from back in the day. Quick note: Sammo Hung was working with Larry on the film “Mandarine Magician” when he got the call from Bruce to film the intro fight scene from Enter the Dragon.

Amazing that many extras on the set had one way or the other, felt a strong presence of Bruce in meeting or sharing ideas on the set of WOTD.
More recently more news have come out that Bruce died from multi organ failure. What a shame.
I always thought bruce definitely had underlying health issues, and more recently he had kidney problems.
I guess there were were lots of contributing factors to his death! Very sad and unfortunate we lost him so young Thanks glad you enjoyed and see you tomorrow for another Bruce Lee short! Enjoy!

That isn't Bruce's real voice in Enter The Dragon - the audio was damaged or affected in some way. If I remember correctly he's dubbed by John Little. You can hear his real voice in The Green Hornet etc.

John Leto dubbed the monk scene that was released 25 years after the film was made in 1998 for the 25th anniversary event to the dragon. One thing that always struck me was, (and no offence intended to John) apart from the big guy in the red vest, none of the Bosses thugs looked particularly menacing. Perhaps because there were not may gwalios in Hong Kong to hire at that time. Still will be interesting to hear his stories.👍

JW: John Derbyshire here. I have to agree. Looking at us lined up there, we don't appear very thuggish, more like a bunch of young office workers. There weren't THAT many young foreigners hanging loose in 1972 HK though, and most were college students "doing" the Far East. The Casting Director went with what he'd got, I guess.

I wonder what happened to the rest of the thugs? This guy's scene appeared in the movie trailer too. It was funny during the scene where the black guy said , "I want some chinese spare ribs". When they dubbed that, they didn't have that actor present to do it. So Bruce dubbed the voice. Hilarious.
