The decision to not take the yf23 is a big mistakes. The YF 23 is already a 6 th generation fighter.

The YF 23 can easily modify to fly super sonic speed.
Northrop kept the numbers secret but the 23 did go though supersonic testing. I may not recall correctly but, I think the test pilot that flew both the 22 + 23 said the 23 was already faster because of the long narrow body.
Wouldn't you know, years later, a commenter in a video like this had a 'friend that worked at Northrop' and they often discussed aviation and one day he said "I can't say much, but it's still out there". Did the 23 become the father of an NGAD program, a drone, some unknown black program? Maybe it was just too good to let it die?
