most premade maxis households actually already have camera angles saved! i think it's interesting because maybe maxis maybe used those for storytelling purposes? or to test the features out?
Ohh, that's interesting! Because I didn't know we could set up our own camera angles but I had already found that clicking on the numbers 4-9 would SOMETIMES change the camera angle. It didn't always work so I thought it was some kind of glitch xD It all makes sense now :D
one minute in and this is already a rollercoaster of emotions. my jaw literally dropped when you ctrl+clicked on the terrain and the game already telling you you can do this was utterly humbling, had never felt so humiliated
Two small tricks involving toddlers that some people might not know, well one is a trick the other is just cute. For easy potty training watch as the adult sim puts the toddler on the potty and goes to pat their head. You will need speed one for this. Now most people don't know that you can cancel the potty training on the parents queue after their hand touches the toddlers head. The parent is free to leave and the toddler will stay by themselves on the potty. Very useful if the parent really needs to take care of their needs. Do this too soon before the parent touches the toddlers head and the whole action may drop, do it too late and the parent can't leave. There is a short space during that whole head patting animation where you can cancel. The other 'tip' is place the toddler in a highchair and feed them a bowl of food then instead of taking them out feed them another bowl of food and the toddler if full they with throw a handful of food. Oh and another trick is a decorating tip. Use Ctrl F when using floor tile and it will turn into a triangle and you can make 'rugs' designs with carpet. Maybe most people will know this.
wait, i never knew the first one, omfg!! this is a lot of help, i always get annoyed by how the parent needs to stand around and wait for the toddler to be finished! thank you millions!! i didn't know the second one either, it's cute! i knew about the floor tile thing but i only discovered it recently! i had no idea you could get the tiles to be a triangle shape or diagonal without using walls. if i make another edition of this video, i might include this in it
@@Pixuou Glad I said something then. 😁 Most people I have told either don't care or maybe have not understood. I play slowly most of the time so I found this out years ago because I was always trying to click it off and at some point I realized, hey you can, so long as you do so at the right time. I think the adult pats the toddlers head 4 times, so it must be done in that window of time.
@@joandsarah77 that’s enough time for me! while i don’t always play on speed 1, i always pay extra attention to my sims, especially when they’re doing something important like potty training, and i also pause a lot, so it should be no problem. thanks for the tip again!
- Learned about erasing terrain paint somewhere a few years ago, but boy-howdy it took a while. - Heard about the camera from the machinima/filmmaking community within the Sims 2 community *somewhat* recently because they use them for zooms, dolly shots, etc. Pretty cool. Also got started on the OMSP wagon from them. - Blending face templates I *also* learned from Marticore... bless her. - ADVANCED NEIGHBORHOOD OPTIONS! This I'm learning from you... OMG. TYSM! - I accidentally click other lots all the time so I totally knew about switching lots from within lot view. This video was really cool, thanks so much for it!
I never used to use terrain paint at all when I was a kid because I hated how fiddly it was to get it exactly right first time, or to have to undo and repaint, or paint over it… I only learnt about the erase feature recently (from a separate video) and my mind was blown. Now I can use terrain paint again!
I can't believe I've never noticed, (been bothered to actually read about), how to dele the terrain paint! I'm definitely still learning even after playing this game for 16 years😂. Thank you for a great video this was very helpful ☺️
Same. This game never ceases to amaze me! You can really tell it was a passion project. I wish game companies nowadays would put half the heart the sims 2 has in their games...
OMG Thank you sooo much for the first Trick!🤍 I've been playing the Game for like 15 Years, but actually never knew this. The way I always removed Terrain-Paint was by creating Pond on the tiles I painted wrong and then simply press undo. But now painting the terrain will be so much easier, thanks to you. Keep up the great work, I really enjoy your videos :)
I never knew about the advanced neighborhood option, nor the camera angle option. Which is especially good since I no longer get the pop up when the doorbell rings for some reason.
I'm sorry but I've been painting over problem terrain paint for 17 years and am just learning now that cntl+click would have deleted it this whole time? AND that this wasn't a hidden feature but one that the game has stated upfront and I've just never read in 17 years? Mind = Blown.
oh my god, there's people who didn't know about the saving camera angles! It was all we did when we were shooting sims 2 music videos and machinimas so cool to see everyone love this game still!
I just found your channel today and I love it!! I had to stop myself from watching all your videos today so I can have some to enjoy tomorrow. I look forward to seeing more in the future! 😁
i didn't know about the right clicking on face templates OR the camera angles. been playing since 2004. my christ. actually the camera thing reminded me of early gameplay trailers teasing about the 'movie maker' that was going to come with the game, to make your own sims movies. probably a feature meant for that regrettably scrapped concept, that they left in the game because WHY WOULDN'T you? i love it! also, remember when someone on tumblr caught the wall TV falling off and breaking for the first time, like, last year? And it made the rounds because it was also news to literally all the simmers deep enough in the game to have dedicated simblrs? THIS SUMTHNTEEN YEAR OLD GAME
Oh, the camera angle shortcuts throw me back... I used to be really into Sims 2 Machinima. Jaydee (probably the most well known creator in that scene) was the first person to hack the camera files to allow really slow, smooth camera shots using those shortcuts. Very fiddly but allowed for pretty advanced camera tricks for the time.
about the camera shortcuts, i think the premade households have ones set by maxis at the start of the game to draw attention the interesting things in their houses, or maybe just random things i'm not sure (i only found out about that recently though and never knew you could set your own ones!)
i didn't film much in Sims 2 so I'm not sure, but in Sims 3 there are actually 10 cameras! TS3 doesn't use 4 (it's for so-called 4 speed), so it utilizes 5 to 9, but it's a different setting for Tab mode (when you press Tab on a keyboard) and usual mode. So pressing 5 in Tab mode can bring you to another place than pressing 5 in usual mode. I wonder if it's the same thin in TS2 though.
Oh yeah I found out about the camera thing only recently but actually how I found it was because I knew there was a cinematic camera in The Sims 4 and you could set camera angles there which I'd been using, and then I decided to try it in The Sims 2 and it's actually exactly the same keys but I never knew about that in The Sims 2 even though I first played it 15 years before I played The Sims 4 lol.
One trick I learned when I was younger is for when you're in the cheats bar after messing up a cheat code. Instead of clicking x and enter, you can also click the ` key to the left of the number 1 key, above the tab key on your keyboard and it will minimize the cheats bar to its original size. This button also pauses the game meanwhile numbers 1, 2, and 3 change the time speed. Hope it helps!
wow, i didn't know that, thank you!! my keyboard is a bit different and sadly that button doesn't pause the game for me, but i'll check if it minimizes the cheat bar. if not, i can do with just x :)
Ugh, I keep complaining that 'people don't read anymore!(!!!)'. Manwhile I just started playing The Sims 2 again and I went crazy about not finding a 'delete terrain paint' option... So, thank you :o)
idk why, but it really bugs me that the way they made it it always says "The Sims^tm 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff", same with the TS3 loading screen always being Into the Future (that is if you have it installed). Does it actually make a difference whether you choose "walk to" or "drive to" besides the animations and such?
yeah that bugs me too! and no, it doesn't really make any difference, it's the same effect as calling a taxi or choosing "walk to lot...", except you don't need to choose which lot
(1.) I read the descriptions. Always. The Sims 2 ones are funnier than the latter ones. I'd argue that the Sims 3/4 ones aren't worth reading, as the team has gone through a realistic phase and is not into puns anymore. (2.) The camera shortcuts in CameraMan mode and Live Mode are actually mentioned in the official Sims 2 moviemaking tutorial video. It is publicized/uploaded on TH-cam, and that's how I come to know of it. Those shortcuts are also printed in the base game manual, and I always read game manuals too. These camera controls are actually carried over to The Sims 3, by the way. Very useful. (3.) You can also do the face modifications in Bodyshop. I do that all the time. Old news, man. To me, at least. (4.) I already know that option too. It's definitely not a base game option, and that's how I know of it. I am very keen on EP options, because I have played with the Sims 2 base game for a long time. It is very useful to easily go to a separate neighborhood or subneighborhood while in the Live Mode. (5.) I usually turn off Clickable Lots. I have a tip for you. In the Sims 2, you can actually click on a decorative item and view it. That will help the Sim gain a lot of Fun Points. If you end the interaction as soon as possible, then your Sim can easily get a quick burst of Fun. Then, your Sim will do whatever you want the Sim to do.
