    I got the quad tendon graft, and I would recommend it to anyone. I'm 21 years old and highly active. My knee itself feels strong, and I had no issues achieving my post-surgical milestones. I did have pain in my quad muscle for many weeks, but that's to be expected since a large chunk was taken for the graft.
    Good luck to anyone who's in the process of dealing with this injury. Stay strong, you got this.

    The patellar tendon graft is the best graft for anyone who considers themselves an athlete and wants to get their knee back functioning as good and as strong as before. The only downside is it takes the longest to recover from and it’s the most painful procedure, but as they always they, it won’t be easy but it’s worth it. The quad tendon on the other hand is a newer graft that shows very good promise. The hamstring has the fastest recovery time and it’s not as bad as a recovery, I believe it has the most re-tear rates and it gets looser as years go by compared to the other ligaments. I tore my right acl 2 years ago and got the patellar tendon graft and they had me start physical therapy the very next day. The end of April last month I twisted my left knee wrestling and I found out i tore my left acl. Once again I’m getting the patellar tendon graft, because I’m only 23, I’m physically fit, and I’ve done countless amount of research on ACL surgery and the patella tendon graft is the best one minus the longer recovery time and more pain. My surgery is scheduled for next Tuesday and I’m thinking of vlogging my recovery and I’ll post it to show updates for anyone interested.

      I highly disagree, the hamstring graft is a very strong graft choice and studies have shown it to be on par with the patellar tendon graft. There’s a very slight difference in terms of re-tear rates because people get cleared quicker. There is just too much morbidity from a patellar tendon graft imo -unless you’re a high level athlete I don’t think its worth it.

      HI! I’m so happy to come across your comment, and I hope I can get a response! I tore my acl wrestling about 4 months ago. And I’m getting surgery in a week. I’m still struggling to find what’s the best graft for me but I was leaning towards hamstring bc I was worried about the anterior knee pain from the patellar graft. But I heard a lot of good reviews about the patellar tendon graft. what I wanted to ask is, how is it going for you and your wrestling? Is it uncomfortable now? Or does it get better?

    torn my ACL 3 times same knee. hamstring and allograft both failed. Getting BTB this time

  • @Hammster99
    @Hammster99 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I had patella tendon BTB option for ACL repair. Waited almost 3 months for surgery to have full extension first. I was progressing but then all of a sudden regressed. My physical therapist didn't have me use machines to isolate the quad. This may have been the main issue. Or perhaps it was the choice to take the patella tendon. I am now seeing a second surgeon (14 months after surgery due to continued knee pain preventing me from doing squats). This surgeon says he doesn't perform patella tendon surgery for patients over age of 25 (I was 31 when I had surgery, athletic for my age and was applying for a career as Army Chaplain so I would need to be able to run). Might try injections to help push through the pain and build enough strength which then can avoid the pain in the knee (that's his plan). Right now, I can't jog for more than 3 minutes due to knee pain.
    I still don't know what was the best course of action throughout my recovery process, but I hope this information can be helpful to others.

      There is a period where the graft gets weak and kinda dies in order to regenerate, maybe that's what happened? Lookup the stages or acl graft recovery.

    • @SystemCTRL
      @SystemCTRL 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@eddiemurillo3384 Same here, but from my research one reason for the higher failures of the allograft is due to the longer healing time needed. It takes longer for an allograft to become strong. Work on your surrounding muscle groups and don't return to active sport too soon are the recommendations I have found.

      with artificial ligament, I had almost no pain (mostly discomfort but that's it), my doc and PT in Shanghai told me my recovery will be a lot faster than if I had taken other grafts. I find it strange almost no youtube video about it.... seems the only downside is the cost since the price of the ligament is high. As I had harmstring ACL surgery 20 years ago and remembering how painful it was; I think it s really worth it to pay more if no pain at all!!
