    it looks like a big bang and a lot of recoil for 25 grains of 2f goex.

      Recoil isn't too bad. You do know you had just launched a 250gr bullet at about 700 fps though. One thing I noticed from the video that I didn't really notice while shooting is that there is a bit of difference in muzzle flip when shooting the top barrel compared to the bottom one.

    I have the Snake Slayer VI 4.25 barrel. I fire the lower 1st the sights are set on the lower. The key for me was start at 2yds then every 6 shots move further away by 2yds. It's adjusting to over under barrel. I'm Hitting center mass(chest) 20yds. These come in serious calibers that will handle the issue. Love mine this shorter barrel is something I'm look at in a smaller calibers. Thanks for the video

    you should try getting the .45 colt only barrel.

      I didn't know they offered one in just .45 Colt. I'll have to look into that.

      yup, I was lucky to find on on ebay. it's a 3' barrel. they make one in a 2.5" barrel

    Short, sweet, and to the point. I always wondered how these would shoot with a slow, classic blackpowder load. As we can see, still plenty stout.

      I would like to chronograph some blackpowder loads out of this thing, just to see what we get!

    How bout you do a video on the 1860, n show us what makes it your fav, maybe convince me to get one.

    These little (little ? hahaha) derringers have a place and I have been looking for any guidance as to their performance as a survival pistol,cause nothing says loving like a weapon that defends you from being eaten and then help you get a quail for dinner. And as always really enjoy your videos John, your last set on the 1858's inspired me to get a sheriff's model (1858) and convert it to .45 long colt, very sweet. See ya next video

      Thank you. Good choice on the 1858 Sheriff. They are pretty handy revolvers!

      @@sethmullins8346 I haven't tried mine yet with .410's, not sure if I ever will. I think the performance I got out of the pepperbox kind of soured me on trying to make a handgun perform like a shotgun!

    • @sethmullins8346
      @sethmullins8346 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnzx6r It is truly abhorrent. The best thing I could think of would be loading the all brass .410 shells for black powder with a stack of .45 round balls or wadcutters. That would engage the rifling.

  • @paulreins2332
    @paulreins2332 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey btw have you shot a 1860 ? I just did not like the overall look and feel of it, traded it for a 1851 Navy as I preferr Colt Navy's for .36 cal and Remington's N M A for .44 cal. I do have a Walker that I would not take anything for

    • @johnzx6r
      @johnzx6r  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a few 1860's around here, somewhere! I actually really like the 1860's, probably only second to the Remington NMA as far as favorite pistols go.
      I do agree though that if you want a .36, the Colt style is the way to go. The .36 Remingtons being made today are just too big for the caliber. As I mentioned in one of my other videos, both Pietta and Uberti both use their larger frame .44's as a base for their .36's, so as a result the guns are huge for being only .36's.

    So I'm not now or ever been a believer in the combination of .45 colt/.410 anything. I love .45 colt, but have an equal regard for the 410. Just not both together. They each cancel out the benefit of the other. Rifle ruins shot patterns, and the free bore gap of a 45 colt to a 2 1/2 shotgun chamber. Understand I would buy a 8-10" .410 choked revolver or a 8-10" .45 colt but a combo is a waste of steel as lost effectiveness of either.

    • @johnzx6r
      @johnzx6r  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't disagree. I think this would be much more effective as strictly a .45 Colt chambering. But apparently the manufacturers think, and apparently the buying public agrees ( hence the Taurus Judge and S&W Governor) that anything .45 should also be .410, because "reasons".
      Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

    • @StevenMMan
      @StevenMMan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnzx6r correct.... there is an advantage to a Truely designed. 410 revolver, and the .45 colt advantages Elmer Keith with Smith and wesson, than Ruger proved oh so long ago. This said it was marketing not function that led this nonsense of a combination.

      @@johnzx6r hey is there any way you could slug the diameter of your .31 caliber colt replica cylinder? I put together a test mold of 4 different conical designs specifically try to fit the 1863 Remington. I missed my objective, but colt replica's may still for 3 of them and the forth I know will.

    I see you've reviewed a suggestion of mine. A man of the people!
    I have the .45/.410 model and it's a bit of a kicker. I ordered a 9mm barrel for it.
    I should also mention removing the trigger guard *really* helps with the trigger. The trigger is awful at the angle the trigger guard lets you get.

    • @johnzx6r
      @johnzx6r  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, it was a good suggestion, and I just had to try it out!
      I think I will just leave the trigger guard off of mine as well. I just think it looks better and more traditional without it.

      @@sethmullins8346 The 9mm will probably be nice to shoot - a lot less expensive than .45 Colt!
      I think you will like the Walker - it's the complete opposite of the Bond Arms! Photos and videos don't quite convey how large the thing is.
