HUNGRY Sailors... running out of FOOD in LOCKDOWN [EP 90] | Sailing Millennial Falcon

  • In this episode, we realize we are running out of fresh food on the boat in the middle of lockdown. The government has limited when shops are open and how often we are allowed to go to shore to... once a week.
As we get closer to the shops to stock up, we see that the whole of Grenada has come out in force to do exactly the same thing. After trying multiple times to get food, we realize that it's not going to happen and the rusty cans of food from the back of the cupboard start making an appearance!
In between waiting for more information from the government as to how long the lockdown will continue for and when we can next get some food, we work on a few boat projects like waterproofing our gas locker.
Finally, the day arrives and we spend a whopping 9 hours waiting in line for the chance to stock up on groceries. At 5pm, a victorious Sean comes back from the shops and we have a barbeque to celebrate the win of the week!

eggplant salad is a very common dish in Turkey. add tomato, onions parsley lemon juice and olive oil along with salt and pepper. chop the eggplant fine like paste , stir them all together and ready to serve.

Absolutely priceless, and right on the money. 5:23 Here, panic buyig was targeted, and the biggest target, Toilet paper ! In some places, stores which could pull strings, but were not grocery stores, thus shut down, decided to carry toilet paper and hand sanitizer, and thus somehow qualify as essential ? Believe it or not, it worked !

I feel your pain, I've not been out of my house for over two weeks. When I need to provisions, I have to put my order in at the "shops" 2 or 3 days ahead of time, and then stand in my house as a big van pulls up and drops my groceries off on my front steps. Then, I have.......to... um..... wait....., never mind that actually is kinda awesome. Thank goodness I didn't tell you about the fact there is a liquor store that is open within walking distance from me, that would have been really rubbing salt in your wounds ;). Seriously though, I admire you for being able to hold it together with four of you on such a small space. Please stay healthy and safe, and thanks for sharing!

Essential workers here in the USA. We are in our fifties and sixties. We are raising two grandchildren. Our goal is to keep them safe. We keep them isolated. It is hard for them to understand. They are loosening things now but people are going overboard. Not social distancing and not wearing mask. It is not over yet. We can have good times but be safe and people are not doing it. My granddaughter has seizures. She is affected by many things. Just for fun if you see this. Please send a shout out to them. Braydon is our grandson. Victoria is the one that has the seizures. If you get time to send them a video, I would love to show them!

You shouldn't be laying the LP gas bottles on their sides, there's an inbuilt pressure relief valve in the valve tap at the top and it's meant for gas vapour, laying them on their side will allow LP liquid to escape making it extremely dangerous

Your gas bottles should not be stored or used on their sides, they must be stored upright to allow them to vent gas only in case of them getting hot, as in fire, and they can't be used lying down as they will feed liquid gas into your gas system, here in NZ we are just trying to come out of lockdown a bit more, we are yet to meet our 1st grandchild after 6 weeks!!

Fresh food solution! Diving/ fishing, foraging. many seaweeds taste fantastic, are highly nutritious and here in the UK none of them are poisonous, check that obviously and make sure you wash it thoroughly because although the seaweeds aren`t poisonous some of the algae that live on it are! Get yourselves a bucketful of shellfish, boil some rice and use the seaweed to wrap it all up Sushi style.. I do it all the time so I can tell you first hand it`s properly good, really good! What outboard do you have on your dinge? HP? Age and reliability? Have a 2007 Tohatsu on mine and am looking to replace it as the reliability is waning with age. Suggestion/recommendations. Price range?

I can't believe you're still there I would have bailed and sailed to St Thomas and then to Florida. Just a thought.

Can they do that if they are Aussies?

@@kevinberger5671 Yes St Thomas is kinda enforcing 2 week Q but south Florida is a center for yachts of all sizes and crews of all nationalities and they aren't enforcing the Q strictly or at all.

A few considerations before we’d execute that plan... We need B1/B2 visas to get into US waters. Which require us to fly to another country to a US embassy for an interview, wait a few months for an answer as well as a couple hundred $$$. Florida also is in the hurricane zone and Grenada isn’t. Plus US has a lot of covid cases... so I’m reluctant to go charging into that. So we’re happy to stay put! 🙂

Wait. What? if water gets into boat from gas locker then so does gas. The gas locker needs to be the best drained and best separated space from the boat. Please fix this or I won't be able to sleep.

Akathe Squid: I'm sure their insure company would be alarmed. I agree that so-called gas locker should be segregated if not replaced with a deck locker.
