@@ANT.LEEEEE Thanks for watching, any update? Is your engine a carburetor or fuel injection? Oil leaking from that location can be a damaged impeller seal. There is gear oil/lubricant inside impeller housing and if it leaks out, it likely leaks in that exact location.
I have a 2000 seadoo gti- while driving the ski I have water coming from/between carbon ring/ driveshaft support ring. Just replace with a oem SBT kit. The original kit- carbon ring blew off. The new kit seems loose( a lot of wiggle room, no effort to pull back towards the stern.
Thanks for watching, any update? The kit should have came with brand new rubber o-rings to help create that watertight seal. The parts shouldn’t be loose…🤔…did you verify it’s the exact replacement kit for your ski serial number? You mentioned SBT kit which is an aftermarket version and in most cases, won’t be the absolute exact same fit when creating seal and lasting for many years. Purchasing OEM is always best. Thank you VERY much for this thorough explanation of the carbon ring setup! Looking for where water has gotten into my oil from and this is one of 3 suspects. Seadoo was ran on a hose for 10 to 15 minutes by previous owner which I now understand is WAY too long. Might have smoked the carbon ring.

I have a 97gts 720 and it feels like the clutch is slipping some times but I didn't think they had a clutch. It's almost like it don't suck water good till ur goin good. Hard to 3xpkain that's why I say sounds like a clutch slipping on a vehicle and acts it

I have a 2004 rxp seadoo last time I used it It wasn’t going over 5mph . It idles fine still revs but no thrust . I found little water in the engine bay when I got it out the water any idea of what could be the problem ? Felt like something was “slipping “

A few things can cause this. 1. Low oil 2. Misfiring or burnt plugs 3. Water inside hull causing electrical wiring/connections to short out 4. Vacuum leak You may want to give your sea doo an oil change & new plugs. Use a sponge to remove any & all water from hull. Next, remove the black negative cable from your battery and allow it to sit disconnected for a minimum of 30 minutes. This will allow your onboard computer to do a full reset. After 30 minutes, resecure your black negative cable to your battery. Let’s start there. Keep us posted. Us fellow DIY’ers need to stick together! 😎👍🔧🔩

Angelo Montante i ended up finding a crack at the bottom of my hull. I’m thinking the water getting into my hull is causing cavitation so I’m getting it repaired next week I’ll let you know if that fixes my problem. If your jet ski IS NOT catching water inside the hull it’s most likely your wear ring !

Can carbon seal cause you to loose top end speed? Reason I’m asking my top end speed is 48 mph with 7200 rpms. I should be able to hit 55 to 60 mph with my seadoo gtx 155 but hard stop at 48 mph
Thanks for watching & it can indeed however a bit lower on the common cause list of items that can degrade performance. We recommend starting with the friendly items such as spark plugs and wires.

@@bartii8311 Thanks for the update, have you verified the jet ski is not in (Limp Mode). You may need to disconnect the negative cable from your battery and leave disconnected for a minimum of 30 minutes. This will allow your system to reset. Do you have a second key that you can try?
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders i have no idea what is limp mode (if you can explain to me what is limp mode it would be great). Also I am disconnecting battery immediately. And I only have 2 keys one is a learning key that my son uses and the other one is yellow the one I use.
@@bartii8311 Thanks for the reply, the yellow key is programmed for low speed configuration. Using the yellow key will not allow you to exceed the low speed performance limitations. Your jet ski can revert to limp mode any time it senses a threat to the system such as an electrical power surge, low oil, low vacuum pressure... Once jet ski reverts to limp mode, not many things but lack of acceleration can lead you to realize it. Limp mode decreases performance aspects of the jet ski and will not allow you to put excessive loads on the engine for protection.

Changed the bellow and my propeller. After installation I went to start it and im not getting even a click. Any suggestions. I tried a different battery. Going to charge mine tonight and test my start button to see if its working

R Reichel Thanks for the reply. What’s your update? Have you been able to remove drive shaft? In some cases, the shaft is firmly stuck to the internal shaft splines.
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Yes, the stainless steel piece was a bit stuck. I had to smack it a bit to get it to slide. Anyway all done now. Tested it on the lake "no more leaking" Had to get a friend to help as I could not see what was going on inside when pulling the shaft. It's a 1 person job unless the shaft doesn't drop right out. Then you need help to know why it's not coming out. All in all there's a 😁 on my face now.

this is a good video for this issue. almost all of the seadoo line within those years is the same. my 86 challenger is the same as what you have and some previous owner was a retard and instead of buying the rubber bushing and carbon seal they put what looks like a whole tube of cheap household silicone. and it still leaks now im replacing the whole thing for $100 on flea bay. great video.

Apart from bit water leak, If there is oil leak from the drive shaft, you have to change Ball Bearing with Bellow at the same time?
I have a 1996 seadoo sp. Seems to be spraying in water from the front of the drive shaft under the plastic cover closest to the engine
Any ideas on whats causing this? Thought maybe it was normal and my bilge pump was suppose to remove its letting too much water in my ski

I have small cracks in my plastic boot would that cause leaking? Thinking It might be leaking slow and the engine is spinning throwing it up

Changed the bellow and my propeller. After installation I went to start it and im not getting even a click. Any suggestions. I tried a different battery. Going to charge mine tonight and test my start button to see if its working

Can this be a cause of an oil leak?
Thanks for watching & in most cases, an oil leak will be caused by something else. Is there any location inside engine compartment that has more traces of leaking oil than others?

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders imgur.com/a/erkg3ci/ is what I see from just taking a picture. There’s no water in the oil so that’s a good thing. I put a piece of cardboard down there to see where it might be leaking but don’t know what I’m looking at

I installed a new carbon ring. The new carbon ring leaks between the new carbon ring and the stainless ring. Should I run the ring dry to get a finer seal?

Thanks for watching. Have you verified the rubber bellow is properly secured & not leaking? Also it is very important to dry any and all water in the hall to give you a much better accurate inspection of where a leak is coming from. Keep us posted.

I have a 2002 GTX 4 tec, when it’s on in the water a lot of water comes in, everything is sealed. Worried about it

Thanks for watching & we haven’t really noticed that it’s manufacture specific. All Jet Ski Bellows & Carbon Seals wear out over time & lead to degraded shaft performance.

Thanks for watching. Depending on what year, make, & model you have will depend on what additional parts you have. Have you removed all pins & clamps? It can also get caught up on tight rubber bellows.

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders I have a 2002 gtx 4 tec 155. I loosened 2 clamps on the boot and removed the retainer ring, that's all I did. Is there somthing else I need to remove?

Thanks for the reply. What’s your update? Have you been able to remove drive shaft?
In some cases, the shaft is firmly stuck to the internal shaft splines.
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Yes, the stainless steel piece was a bit stuck. I had to smack it a bit to get it to slide. Anyway all done now. Tested it on the lake "no more leaking" Had to get a friend to help as I could not see what was going on inside when pulling the shaft. It's a 1 person job unless the shaft doesn't drop right out. Then you need help to know why it's not coming out. All in all there's a 😁 on my face now.

this is a good video for this issue. almost all of the seadoo line within those years is the same. my 86 challenger is the same as what you have and some previous owner was a retard and instead of buying the rubber bushing and carbon seal they put what looks like a whole tube of cheap household silicone. and it still leaks now im replacing the whole thing for $100 on flea bay. great video.
