- fixing the now common problem from the 2014 -2016 sparks with the crank rusting terribly to the point where water is leaking past the seals and into the hull. I used JB weld to fill the rusty pits to make a new perfect seal.
JB Weld: the tool every boater loves, but will never admit. Great job, Bryan!
Better than flex seal
Damn! That Sea-Doo Spark looks very bad from the salt! I have a 2014 and where I'm at only fresh water (lake Michigan) and last year i did a tune up , everything looked like new inside with over 250 hours everything original. I'll definitely keep this in mind , nice video by the way.

The better fix is to sleeve it and install larger diameter seals(2mm) in the cover. A kit is available now.
Hi, do you have a link?
@@davidortiz4122 I saw it on a really small channel video by a Hispanic guy. He solved this issue with a custom sleeve and seals that were 2mm larger hole size than OEM.
Do you have a link to the kit?
8 months later, can you please tell us how the JB weld had held up?
Haven't had any issues. I ride constantly
@@Yesimbs How much do you ride?
@bryansullivan please can u post where you bought the seals and everything u used I’m doing the same thing
Two years in can you please provide an update if it's holding up? Thanks for the video by the way!

Important question? Did you use the regular JB Weld or did you use the JB Marine? Please let me know. Thanks.
Regular
And still no issues
Also, can you tell me what grit sandpaper you used before you put the JB Weld down?
Bryan, one last question. In your video, you mention that you were going to apply 2 coats of the JB Weld but I noticed you only showed 1 coat being applied? Did you use 1 coat or 2 coats because I don’t want it to be too thick. Please let me know. Thanks & I liked, shared & subscribed to your channel.
@@masterauthorizeddealer3436 I don't remember the grit. It was pretty fine though. And 1 coat did the trick for me
Hey, can you tell me what seals you used? It’s pretty hard to find these online, as they aren’t really sold by sea doo… or at least they are hard to find

Dumb question, I got a 2014 as well. I’m wanting to inspect and repack spine with new grease, machine is clean. Did you just pull the shaft out or did you have to pull stuff off first?

Do the seals go by preasur or is there a way to take theme of ?
How good has this fix held up? I’m about to buy a spark with this issue. Can you see any wear on the jb weld there the seals run on the crank? / Filip from sweden
this cannot be perfect, and that's what you need...you would need to the shaft to be run in a lathe to get the desired finish, would last at tops a day or two depending on the finish.....ok for stitching a buyer up....
Works still almost a year later
I know this is an old post but did you spray fluid film on the actual pto before you put back together?

Not going to hold up if you use it for an extended peirod of time.
Hey, how is it doing so far? Got the same problem

How did this hold up? I have the same issue
Amazingly
Where did you get the new PTO cover? And did it come with the seals already?
Ebay. And yes!
@@Yesimbs Great! Thanks for the answer. Do you remember the torque spec for the PTO cover? Did you use new bolts?
@@davidortiz4122 yes new bolts. Don't remember the torque. The workshop manual is available to download online though
Man, I took my spark out for the first time after doing this, rode for two hours and not a single drop of water in the hull. Thank you so much!!
@@davidortiz4122 hell yeah! That's so awesome
Is the repair still fine. About to do the same to mine...
Haven't had any issues yet. Still dry!
@@Yesimbs that's awesome. So you just used JB weld and sanded it down smooth?
@@williamshort1985 yup!
@@Yesimbs have you put many hours on it since the repair? Still on leaks?
@@williamshort1985 a year later the bilge only gets wet if I flip it or am jumping waves super hard. About 50 hours since the repair
Mine is an 18 and the water is flowing in like Niagara Falls

Seadoo Spark is a nightmare, never buy one.
The engine is the nightmare and it's in alot more skis then just that one...
@@kick_then_shift Lets just say engine crap and hull too.
@phanganisland Honestly, the hulls are a great design for a cheap ski that's easy to throw around and have fun. The engines unfortunately are the issue because they decided this pto Cover was a better idea than a carbon seal. Both ideas suck and will sink your ski. The pto cover is a terrible design. When the seal lets go, you risk water in your engine or running it dry of oil. I have a 2017 GTs, has the same engine as the spark 900ac h.o. I've been plagued with this pto cover issue. Im gonna try this idea this guy did to see how it works. The seal thankfully has some giveaway so I think that's why it will work.
