I remember picking her up as a kid and thinking: "Ugh, she's so different from the rest of the cast, I guess she's supposed to be the hard mode or something" and yeah, I wasn't that far off from the truth, but what initially made me not choose her eventually became the reason to do so. Because my god, pulling off her moves, landing jump after jump at top speed, and swinging around the hammer is so satisfying, Amy really grew on me, and I can't imagine myself looking back at this game now if it weren't for her. Jeez man, I can't help it, I absolutely adore her.
Funny how Amy's gameplay, with it's lack of rolling/spindashing, on paper sounds like something that would never work in a 2-D genesis style game, yet it just simply does, and pretty wonderfully I might add. The thing is, rolling and spindashing were NEVER that necessary in the first place to build speed. Anyone who truly mastered the core mechanics of the classic games knows that the curved terrain like slopes and loops are not just there for decoration and serve a very practical purpose in allowing the player to increase speed, and that executing properly timed jumps (like in the middle of a loop) grants an increase of speed that even surpasses what can be obtained from a regular roll. With this in mind, Amy is pretty much the to-go option for veterans who wish to challenge their skills, all while experiencing the single most creative twist to the core gameplay that proves you can have playable characters that can be fun without relying in them being clones like Tails and Knuckles. Really sad that Mania gave us more of the same with Mighty and Ray, instead of revisiting this play style while giving Amy the spotlight she never had in the classic era.
Honest opinion: Amy's arguably the character i like playing as the most in this game. I just find her a bit more unique aside from the standard genesis gameplay. And at least she goes fast here unlike adventure 1. Tho the egg x boss is a nightmare as her.

On paper, her play-style sounds like something that’d never work in a Sonic game, but once you fully get the hang of things and know all the moves she can do then I guarantee you’ll be in for a blast. It’s seriously a shame SEGA’s never brought her gameplay style back after this title besides from her team-up combinations in Advance 3.

Male agent 3 No, what I’m saying is that she’s actually really fun to play as once it really clicks with you. I used to struggle wrapping my head around for the longest time, but she’s surprisingly very playable and workable for this sort of level design, especially for a fast-paced action-platformer like Sonic. Amy’s play-style here is meant to bring some optional challenge to a game that probably would’ve been fairly tame sans a few bottomless pit placements, and I’d much rather have this sort of gameplay for her than the Pink Sonic she later became in Advance 2 and Heroes. Also, getting good isn’t a cheap excuse, it’s just a bit of casual encouragement to get better at something.

I disagree with that, once you get the hang of using Amy she actually can make this game a little easier with her hammer which eats most of the bosses and allows her to go much further than others on springs. She's honestly the most fun playing in Advance 1&3 in my opinion I always felt Sonic was the most difficult to use since he doesn't have any advantageous air abilities.

Even Amy's advantages far outweigh anything Sonic can do and her weaknesses aren't so bad Sonic has any reason to be used over her. Outside of familiarity there's no reason to use Sonic. If you want to play normal just use Tails and Knuckles. Sonic can't take advantage of shortcuts (meaning he's the worst at getting any Chaos Emerald or getting around levels) the insta shield isn't particularly useful outside of maybe 2 bosses, he struggles against a majority of the game's bosses with no natural way of crushing them (especially Ice Mountain) and doesn't benefit from the level design in any way. Tails can fly and stay in the air for a pretty good amount of time, which can lead to shortcuts in later levels (he's also good at getting Chaos Emeralds) Knuckles can also get emeralds and be used for his gliding and Amy has slopes and springs.

Her playstyle is design to where while different fits in the flow of Sonic gameplay. You press this thing call the attack button to hit badniks and with the right experimentation she can shred every boss quicker than the other three. If you just jump and press down + B her hammer dive can deliver 7 hits to Robotnik's mech in a row on the first zone. And the boss in act 4 (Ice Mountain) she doesn't even need to use the icicles she can just jump and wack him. And if you use down b on the ground you can get air quickly.

Hi guys, can you help me? I try find game, where Amy dies. What i remember is: You played four characters (Amy, Knuckles, Sonic and Tails). Every char have "campaing" with any number of chapters (i think Amy have four, Sonic something around ten)... you collected gems and after you cleared all chapters, there was fight with boss. Sonic activated gems and changed him into Super Sonic (or something like that, he was yellow/gold for that moment)... after this fight, boss killed Amy and Sonic got enraged (and become Super Sonic again). Then was final fight and after this there was scene with Sonic looking at the sky, where appears Amy. If you could help me, i'll by thankfull, because i'm looking for that game a long time. Btw. i'm sorry for my english, tee hee. ^^
Yayy Amy! She absolutely crushes it in this game. I remember she pretty much breaks the Ice Mountain Eggman boss with her midair hammer swinging attack, thanks to the extra reach, for example. I just love Amy! She is cute...and she is always blowing kisses at you ❤️

Sonic is literally the worst character in Advance 1 and Amy is the best. Amy is only "hard" mode by players who don't understand how the playstyle works. In fact once you know Amy she completely makes the game easier. As any instance where she would seem more vulnerable is very rarely taken into account by the level design. In fact most cases where you run into an enemy is due to cheap enemy placement than a weakness on Amy's part, even the other three can have issues of running into enemies despite their jumps killing.
I mean Amy completely wrecks every boss in the game (she can deliver 7 hits on the first boss as soon as it starts) has great range, can take advantage of shortcuts with springs by using her hammer and she can even hit bosses multiple times in a single vulnerability period, whereas you'd have to chip at bosses with the other three. (Except for Ice Mountain, both Amy and Tails wreck that boss)
Amy can even use incline/declines in the same way the classics took advantage of slopes, if one uses the hammer flip she not only moves faster in the air, but can reach higher areas to make up for a lack of spin dashing. The levels are designed in such a way that benefit Amy's abilities moreso than any other character.
I never understood why Sonic was considered "the standard" playthrough because he's literally the worst in every regard. Even Amy's advantages far outweigh anything Sonic can do and her weaknesses aren't so bad Sonic has any reason to be used over her. Outside of familiarity there's no reason to use Sonic. If you want to play normal just use Tails and Knuckles. Sonic can't take advantage of shortcuts (meaning he's the worst at getting any Chaos Emerald or getting around levels) the insta shield isn't particularly useful outside of maybe 2 bosses, he struggles against a majority of the game's bosses with no natural way of crushing them (especially Ice Mountain) and doesn't benefit from the level design in any way.
Tails can fly and stay in the air for a pretty good amount of time, which can lead to shortcuts in later levels (he's also good at getting Chaos Emeralds) Knuckles can also get emeralds and be used for his gliding and Amy has slopes and springs.
