Hi Friends, in this tutorial I am showing how to avoid basic mistakes when painting a landscape in order to achieve cleaner, looser and more atmospheric painting. Overworked and tight painting quite often happend due to too much wet on dry work, inconsistency in values, incorrect paint mixtures and poor brushwork. I share what is very important to do, but many ignore. I talk about 7 most important aspects and how they affect your watercolor. Many aware of these aspects but do not know what actually lays behind the words. Many know good techniques but keep doing mistakes. Stop overworking and mudding your painting by using these easy techniques today.
In this tutorial I am using:
    BaoHong watercolor paper
    Mop style brushes:
    NEEF Alvaro Castagnet series #6, #2, #00
    Escoda Aquario Gold J.Zbukvic series #18, #14

Great video and advices. Showing 2 videos at once required an extra efford from you - so thank very much for this as well.

I really love how you explain things. I never thought of the background, middle ground and foreground as having such important and unique purposes. I so appreciate 'tutorials' that also help me appreciate paintings or understand why my eyes are drawn to some and slide off others. Thank you for a lovely lesson.

Thanks Nina, what a generous video, so many expert tips. I’m not a streetscape painter but I hope to apply some concepts in my subject of choice

I'm so glad! Thank you Glenda! Yes, definitely the techniques are relevant to all, the objects/subjects that fill the space can be anything.

I wanted to thank you for this tutorial 💗. It's packed with extremely precise information, split screen does an amazing job at showing the exact difference between these two approaches and it pinpoints my struggles with watercolor. Truly grateful.

You are the real deal my lady.
A real artist and a real teacher.
No BS, real stuff, real tips, no false mythology, no show off of your skill for your own sake, only real explanations backed with powerful paintings, fruit of real labor.
I really admire your dedication devoid of any stardom.
I could look and listen to the same tutorial 5 times and keep on learning.
    It is so knowledgeable.
    Please continue.

Thank you so much! You are right, I hate pretence ☺️ and you are right im very passionate about watercolor. I honestly feel very happy when I share and help people to understand it better...I'm so grateful there is now technology to reach such a wide audience. Thanks again and happy painting! Nina

It shows that you don’t like pretence. In today’s world, this is a rare place to stand. It seems so much that people exaggerating their own importance are more successful than the humble experimented ones. I wish it was the other way around. Again thank you. And I heard you say very beautifully “contrejour” which is a French word, I was surprised (I’m French) but it lets me wonder: where are you from? You seem to live in Australia but Volk, isn’t it german? ;-)

@@nvfineartstudio7296 that's awesome! I think I'm going to frame my Yarra Valley I just finished. It's not perfect, but I think it's the best I've done so far, and definitely the first I've liked enough to hang on the wall. I wouldn't have come this far without you!

Both types of techniques are valid. The one on the left was just poorly painted on purpose. Don't say don't do it, the artist must be free to choose the technique that best suits him.

Thank you! I completely agree, it's not bad, it's just not as clean and atmospheric...and a bit too repetitive.
