Whereas it is unlikely, intamin is offering a vertical lsm coaster, so its possible that in the future chain lifts would be replaced by launch lifts. There are pros and cons as usual, pros are less moving parts, but cons are higher electrical costs, and you dont get that anticipation when going up a lift slowly, unless manufactures develop a way to launch trains up a track slower and reliably.

As a Dollywood local I will say the retrack has made Lightning Rod alot more reliable. Sure it has its moments but it ran pretty consistently during 2022
It was still closed for most of the day one of the days I went this past season. Unfortunately I did not get to ride it that day. Luckily, we had another day so we rode it and it seemed to be running more consistently.
I don’t think Oblivion will close soon, because your looking at what’s basically Alton towers drop tower in coaster terms. It’s the tallest and fastest ride in the park and It’s still one of the most popular rides in the park, unlike nemesis who’s queue time fell drastically in the last few years acting as a incentive for the retrack. Next ride that goes will probably be a non secret weapon, Rita. The ride is the weakest link in the park lineup, has the weakest theming and is the most lucrative space in the park for a new coaster. So for my Buy or sell: i predict that another FLY style Vekoma flying coaster will be made before the end of the decade. It will go to China, and I’m also betting that it will have a chain lift and a more invert focused Layout as a direct competitor to the B&M flyer, compared to Phantasialands launched twister.
I know this'll never happen for many reasons, but what if Busch Gardens Williamsburg at some point bought an S&S 4th Dimension coaster (X2, Eejineika, Dinoconda) and themed it to Drachen Fire's Revenge? This idea won't leave my head

Something very interesting about your oblivion point, Enterprise (The flat ride that oblivions over bank went around) has just been removed. So either they’re getting a new flat ride or they’re already planning to remove oblivion.
I actually could see Outlaw Run getting the axe within 10 years or so. It takes up a lot of land and it's the least popular big coaster at SDC. It often goes down a lot too. Eventually, SDC will have to re-track it. But why do that when you could tear it down and put in a huge expansion in that area? SDC is in desperate need of more rides, so a new family area to replace Oultaw would be ideal. That's IMO though. Buy or Sell on this?
They are expanding the family area at the top of the hill past Time Traveler. And I believe the new in-door roller coaster, set to replace Fire In the Hole, is supposed to be located over there. I could see them keeping Outlaw Run for the sake of just having that extreme thrill-seeker coaster box checked off. They do need more rides, absolutely, but I feel like they could expand in a few different areas first.
Buy or Sell: If Carowinds got a Hurler RMC conversion, they will go with the Iron Gwazi route to make the ride different from Twisted Timbers by making it barely resemble the original Hurler.
I'd sell the Lightning Rod one. I'd say Storm Chaser will be the first RMC to be scrapped. Kentucky Kingdom is a similar situation to CGA (ie sharing a parking lot with a huge facility that gives the land value). The difference is the State Fair Board actually owns Kentucky Kingdom, and can simply pull the plug if they decide to expand their facilities (the 49ers don't own CGA's land). That venue does conferences that attract attendees from around the world (there was a car conference going on when I did Kentucky Kingdom). I believe it's only a matter of time.
Buy or Sell: Cedar Point eventually fences off and expands into the Cedar Shores parking lot, a B&M flyer would look great there. They could build a bridge over the road beside Gemini and make it a whole new themed area.
Buy or sell: Based on the new Vekoma family coaster going to St. Louis, Six Flags's next clone model will be a new-age Vekoma model (like a tilt or a modern boomerang).

Michigan's Adventure is my home park and I can honesfly say a new coaster in the next few years would not surprise me. The park has actually had some investments the last few years. First the Camp Snoopy renovations. Then 2020 happened. Then we started seeing lots of new paint around the park and Titan track on Wolverine Wildcat. This year there is a lot of brand new wooden track on Wolverine Wildcat and Shivering Timbers. They are bringing back Timbers Fest for the first time in 12 years (it's tomorrow). Maybe it's just regular upkeep but it seems like more renovations are happening per year in recent years... So it might be prep for an expansion?!
A Gerstlauer would fit perfectly and look amazing in the area currently occupied by Kiddy Kingdom and the game pavilion beside it. With recent news that Mac Shack won't be returning, they could also demo that as room for the layout too. Imagine a record breaking Infinity coaster with a nice lighting package and a beach/boardwalk theme.
I could see a B&M dive or vekoma tilt at magic mountain replacing the golden bear theatre. I think there's enough room for something if they crammed it in and maybe removed buccaneer and swashbuckler

I would think Galactica is more at risk than Oblivion. People still love Oblivion whereas Galactica seems less popular, plus it has more maintenance issues and probably costs more to operate.
This is based around hearsay. My home park is SF Over Texas. I think that they are getting ready for something big, at the possible cost of Shockwave. But I heard a rumor that shockwave is getting chopped and that our 15,000 seat venue is closing. Those two are right next to each other, and would give a nice skyline of Titan, Giant, and a new feature.
Great adventure doesn't get a dive since it's too similar to Medusa and green lantern a wing coaster for a new entrance would be good especially since the parachutes were closed

I really doubt Alton Towers would get rid of Oblivion any time soon. Despite how small it is, it's still extremely popular and has some historical significance. If anything, they might revamp it with a more extensive layout, but I kinda doubt that'll happen either. It fills the same niche as a drop tower really well, and those rides are often even more popular than some of the coasters at a lot of parks.
People think Great Adventure can't be creative. could be a tilt coaster, mack water coaster, or the first ground-up gravity group at a major chain park. Dive still seems likely assuming there would be no tilt coaster.
Buy or sell: vekoma could be in charge of refurbishment of existing and aging arrow coasters/ and or manufacture new parts for the existing arrow coasters.
Eh, not sure about the Canada's Wonderland take there, I know they haven't really been in the habit of removing coasters, but I still think there's a good chance they end up replacing both Flight Deck and Time Warp with a single coaster.
Hot Take: -If Shivering Timbers weren't a top 5 wood coaster in the world (super underrated), Cedar Fair would close and scrap Michigan's Adventure. It'd be hard to relocate Shivering Timbers, and the company sees value in it. They consistently bring in the lowest profits, have little to no future growth due to lack of tourism in nearest cities, and if the public approved of it I think it could be gone by 2030
Buy or Sell: If Oblivion at Alton Towers DID somehow get removed in favor for a new SW, it'll be a Vekoma Tilt coaster. Imagine this: Same X-Sector vibe, similar daunting psychological horror theme, and even the same tunnel that Oblivion used. But instead of hanging off the edge into the hole, you're slowly tilted until you're facing the tunnel, then you drop into the bottomless pit with no escape.
I would not doubt to see Mindbender at one of Staples' parks. He apparently likes Schwarzkopf coasters (well, who doesn't), he wasn't afraid to buy a run-down coaster that just had a fatal crash, so why not buy one that has been operating safely for more than 35 years, has had proper maintenance and has been protected from the elements the entire time. Requiring concrete footers is an obstacle but not a dealbreaker. Six Flags relocated their park model Looping Star from Saint Louis to Houston back in the day. The biggest question is whether the coaster parts can be removed from the building without having to cut the tracks down. The mall was built around the coaster, so there may not be a way to get things out...
Yeah I was thinking it may be a dealbreaker if the building was also serving as a support structure, but moving the parts out somewhat intact may indeed be a challenge.

I am not familiar with the mall, maybe if it sits next to an exterior wall, they can open it up to get parts out. After all, if they want to build something new in that spot, parts have to come in as well...

Valley Fair's finances do not support the cost of a B&M invert. VF is only ahead of MIA in revenue. Over 80 % of the revenue & thus Ebidta comes from the large 5 parks. So that means just 20% comes from KD, DP, WOF, CGA, VF, MIA. A park like VF produces like 2-3% of CF's Ebidta

Possible prediction have for the next 5 years. Kennywood getting a new coaster, but something more family oriented. Sure they have their wooden coasters, but I think a more family oriented modern steel coaster could work. Imagine a custom layout that maybe even coasts over the edge of the hill.
If the Lightning Rod structure is in trouble, they could just RMC it again. 😏

I live in North Georgia and have been going to Dollywood for 30 years and I do agree that the retrack made it more reliable.
I went to Dollywood twice last year and both times I was there lightning rod was running great. That baby hit my number 2 coaster credit on my list.

Oblivion is a gimmick coaster, but it’s a popular gimmick and one you can’t find elsewhere in the Uk
Oblivion always had short queues when I was there. Though, it is a very high capacity ride when they run all the trains (i.e. never)
And Oblivion takes up so little space, it dorsn't make sence.

I really doubt Alton Towers would get rid of Oblivion any time soon. Despite how small it is, it's still extremely popular and has some historical significance. If anything, they might revamp it with a more extensive layout, but I kinda doubt that'll happen either. It fills the same niche as a drop tower really well, and those rides are often even more popular than some of the coasters at a lot of parks.
People think Great Adventure can't be creative. could be a tilt coaster, mack water coaster, or the first ground-up gravity group at a major chain park. Dive still seems likely assuming there would be no tilt coaster.

Eh, not sure about the Canada's Wonderland take there, I know they haven't really been in the habit of removing coasters, but I still think there's a good chance they end up replacing both Flight Deck and Time Warp with a single coaster.
Hot Take:
-If Shivering Timbers weren't a top 5 wood coaster in the world (super underrated), Cedar Fair would close and scrap Michigan's Adventure. It'd be hard to relocate Shivering Timbers, and the company sees value in it. They consistently bring in the lowest profits, have little to no future growth due to lack of tourism in nearest cities, and if the public approved of it I think it could be gone by 2030
Buy or Sell: If GCI adds inversions, Lightning Racer at Hershey Park gets overhauled to feature them.
Buy or Sell: If Oblivion at Alton Towers DID somehow get removed in favor for a new SW, it'll be a Vekoma Tilt coaster.
Imagine this: Same X-Sector vibe, similar daunting psychological horror theme, and even the same tunnel that Oblivion used. But instead of hanging off the edge into the hole, you're slowly tilted until you're facing the tunnel, then you drop into the bottomless pit with no escape.

I would not doubt to see Mindbender at one of Staples' parks. He apparently likes Schwarzkopf coasters (well, who doesn't), he wasn't afraid to buy a run-down coaster that just had a fatal crash, so why not buy one that has been operating safely for more than 35 years, has had proper maintenance and has been protected from the elements the entire time.
Requiring concrete footers is an obstacle but not a dealbreaker. Six Flags relocated their park model Looping Star from Saint Louis to Houston back in the day. The biggest question is whether the coaster parts can be removed from the building without having to cut the tracks down. The mall was built around the coaster, so there may not be a way to get things out...
Yeah I was thinking it may be a dealbreaker if the building was also serving as a support structure, but moving the parts out somewhat intact may indeed be a challenge.
@@AirtimeThrills since the coaster was built first, the building can't support the coaster (could be the other way around though). I am not familiar with the mall, maybe if it sits next to an exterior wall, they can open it up to get parts out.
After all, if they want to build something new in that spot, parts have to come in as well...

Valley Fair's finances do not support the cost of a B&M invert. VF is only ahead of MIA in revenue. Over 80 % of the revenue & thus Ebidta comes from the large 5 parks. So that means just 20% comes from KD, DP, WOF, CGA, VF, MIA. A park like VF produces like 2-3% of CF's Ebidta

Possible prediction have for the next 5 years. Kennywood getting a new coaster, but something more family oriented. Sure they have their wooden coasters, but I think a more family oriented modern steel coaster could work. Imagine a custom layout that maybe even coasts over the edge of the hill.
