Buy or Sell: Within the next two decades, chain lifts on large steel coasters will become obsolete in favor of launches and other technologies.
Sell. Launches are more complicated and more expensive and will probably remain so for a long time

Whereas it is unlikely, intamin is offering a vertical lsm coaster, so its possible that in the future chain lifts would be replaced by launch lifts. There are pros and cons as usual, pros are less moving parts, but cons are higher electrical costs, and you dont get that anticipation when going up a lift slowly, unless manufactures develop a way to launch trains up a track slower and reliably.

Those two manufacturers are extremely reliable.
As a Dollywood local I will say the retrack has made Lightning Rod alot more reliable. Sure it has its moments but it ran pretty consistently during 2022

I’m going to Dollywood for the first time in April and this is reassuring. I know it had a bad track record before the I-Box retracking
I live in North Georgia and have been going to Dollywood for 30 years and I do agree that the retrack made it more reliable.
I went to Dollywood twice last year and both times I was there lightning rod was running great. That baby hit my number 2 coaster credit on my list.
It was still closed for most of the day one of the days I went this past season. Unfortunately I did not get to ride it that day. Luckily, we had another day so we rode it and it seemed to be running more consistently.
I know this'll never happen for many reasons, but what if Busch Gardens Williamsburg at some point bought an S&S 4th Dimension coaster (X2, Eejineika, Dinoconda) and themed it to Drachen Fire's Revenge? This idea won't leave my head

Buy or Sell: Kentucky Kingdom will receive a large vekoma thrill launch coaster in 2025 if big bear mountain goes over well
Buy or Sell: The first American Axis coaster will go to either COTA land or one of the Texas six flags parks.
Buy or Sell: Cedar Point will put in a GCI wooden coaster where Forbidden Frontier was located. Forbidden Frontier is not reopening for the 2023 season per Tony Clark at Winter Chillout.
I don’t think Oblivion will close soon, because your looking at what’s basically Alton towers drop tower in coaster terms. It’s the tallest and fastest ride in the park and It’s still one of the most popular rides in the park, unlike nemesis who’s queue time fell drastically in the last few years acting as a incentive for the retrack. Next ride that goes will probably be a non secret weapon, Rita. The ride is the weakest link in the park lineup, has the weakest theming and is the most lucrative space in the park for a new coaster.
So for my Buy or sell: i predict that another FLY style Vekoma flying coaster will be made before the end of the decade. It will go to China, and I’m also betting that it will have a chain lift and a more invert focused Layout as a direct competitor to the B&M flyer, compared to Phantasialands launched twister.
Oblivion is a gimmick coaster, but it’s a popular gimmick and one you can’t find elsewhere in the Uk
Oblivion always had short queues when I was there. Though, it is a very high capacity ride when they run all the trains (i.e. never)
And Oblivion takes up so little space, it dorsn't make sence.
Buy or Sell: if Cedar Fair decides to work with Intamin again, the first park in the chain to get one will be Canada's Wonderland.
@Joshua Vogt I could see Kings Island replace Vortex with an Intamin LSM with a high inversion count (maybe 6-7) and multiple launches.
This guy straight up perfectly predicted Top Thrill 2.
Buy or Sell: If Carowinds got a Hurler RMC conversion, they will go with the Iron Gwazi route to make the ride different from Twisted Timbers by making it barely resemble the original Hurler.
Buy or sell: Along with Serengeti Flyer, BGT will look to add another flat ride or 2 before their next coaster
@Coaster Man Productions I bet it’s in pantopia. If that’s the case, I bet that Sand Serpent gets taken out. That would provide a combo plot along with the defunct Phoenix.
Buy Or Sell: Carowinds next coaster will be a Mack power splash or water coaster in the rip roarin rapids plot.
Buy or sell: Based on the new Vekoma family coaster going to St. Louis, Six Flags's next clone model will be a new-age Vekoma model (like a tilt or a modern boomerang).
I actually could see Outlaw Run getting the axe within 10 years or so. It takes up a lot of land and it's the least popular big coaster at SDC. It often goes down a lot too. Eventually, SDC will have to re-track it. But why do that when you could tear it down and put in a huge expansion in that area? SDC is in desperate need of more rides, so a new family area to replace Oultaw would be ideal.
That's IMO though. Buy or Sell on this?
They are expanding the family area at the top of the hill past Time Traveler. And I believe the new in-door roller coaster, set to replace Fire In the Hole, is supposed to be located over there. I could see them keeping Outlaw Run for the sake of just having that extreme thrill-seeker coaster box checked off. They do need more rides, absolutely, but I feel like they could expand in a few different areas first.
Something very interesting about your oblivion point, Enterprise (The flat ride that oblivions over bank went around) has just been removed. So either they’re getting a new flat ride or they’re already planning to remove oblivion.
Buy or Sell: Intamin releases their own dive coaster model, except instead of a holding break at the top, there’s a full on LSM launch that sends you straight down the drop
I wonder if they can use an LSM to stop the train, hold it, and then send it to oblivion.
Buy or Sell: By giving WOF a third woodie, Cedar Fair is setting the park up to RMC Timberwolf in the near future.

Buy or Sell: Cedar Point eventually fences off and expands into the Cedar Shores parking lot, a B&M flyer would look great there. They could build a bridge over the road beside Gemini and make it a whole new themed area.
I think Joker at SFDK will be the first RMC to close along with the Vallejo park as a whole - If they relocate the park or close it entirely I'm not sure, but I cant see the tense relationship between SF, Vallejo and the Fair board continuing much longer - Other prediction is within a few years CP adds a woodie to the boardwalk area based on a long gone classic
I'd sell the Lightning Rod one. I'd say Storm Chaser will be the first RMC to be scrapped. Kentucky Kingdom is a similar situation to CGA (ie sharing a parking lot with a huge facility that gives the land value). The difference is the State Fair Board actually owns Kentucky Kingdom, and can simply pull the plug if they decide to expand their facilities (the 49ers don't own CGA's land). That venue does conferences that attract attendees from around the world (there was a car conference going on when I did Kentucky Kingdom). I believe it's only a matter of time.
Buy or sell: Six flags renovates Kingda Ka in a similar fashion to Dragster
Also, Airtime Thrills, when it comes to Michigan’s Adventure getting a new coaster, 12:01, I think Cedar Fair’s most recent earnings call can help lend a bit of credit to this theory, talking about how they are now planning on spending $200 million on capital a year across all their parks, deeming MA as a mid-tier park. Buy or sell: the next coaster that Oregon's oaks park gets will be an rmc raptor (maybe a custom layout possibly)
I think Cedar Point by sticking with the boardwalk theme, might try adding a gci woodie. Most of their coasters are steal, and I think they could use a newer woodie.
Maybe a mine blower style modern woodie as a "boardwalk" coaster
A woodie would look much better in the Forbidden Frontier area. Now that I think about it, and just generally speaking -- the coaster could've been named 'Forbidden Frontier' and the new themed area it would be a part of would be Adventure Island, as it is currently.
A Gerstlauer would fit perfectly and look amazing in the area currently occupied by Kiddy Kingdom and the game pavilion beside it. With recent news that Mac Shack won't be returning, they could also demo that as room for the layout too. Imagine a record breaking Infinity coaster with a nice lighting package and a beach/boardwalk theme.

Maybe so, but it’s unlikely that Cedar Fair will sell it to another park chain rather than relocating it to another park within the chain.
Buy or sell: kings island’s next coaster is a Mack extreme spinner on vortex’s plot
Think about it: time traveler is a terrain based Xtreme spinner, and we know cedar fair is willing to work with Mack. With how kings island (and cedar fair in general) likes to preserve their history, it would pay homage to vortex in a way, since a vortex spins
I would think Galactica is more at risk than Oblivion. People still love Oblivion whereas Galactica seems less popular, plus it has more maintenance issues and probably costs more to operate.
Michigan's Adventure is my home park and I can honesfly say a new coaster in the next few years would not surprise me. The park has actually had some investments the last few years. First the Camp Snoopy renovations. Then 2020 happened. Then we started seeing lots of new paint around the park and Titan track on Wolverine Wildcat. This year there is a lot of brand new wooden track on Wolverine Wildcat and Shivering Timbers. They are bringing back Timbers Fest for the first time in 12 years (it's tomorrow). Maybe it's just regular upkeep but it seems like more renovations are happening per year in recent years... So it might be prep for an expansion?!
Buy Or Sell: After COTALAND, a major independent park gets a new gen vekoma. (Possibly a hyper or tilt)
Buy or sell: as Chinese parks close non-Chinese made rides for "reaching the end of their service lives" (like Dive Coaster at Chimelong Paradise), parks from outside the country will buy them to get big expensive rides on a budget.
The Mack Rides page says the Xtreme spinner has the capability for either a launch or a lift hill. The reliability would be significantly improved if a lift hill is on one of these.
True, that would be an interesting ride if someone orders one

Buy or Sell: Holiday world in Indiana in the next 10 years will get a hyper of some kind be it B&M or RMC. They could go for a traditional B&M layout and focus on air time and rival the voyage for air time in the park but if they went with RMC hybrid they could make an air time machine with a couple inversions to help spice up thier line up and still kinda pay their respects to the woodie gods

My home park is SF Over Texas. I think that they are getting ready for something big, at the possible cost of Shockwave. But I heard a rumor that shockwave is getting chopped and that our 15,000 seat venue is closing. Those two are right next to each other, and would give a nice skyline of Titan, Giant, and a new feature.
Buy or Sell: If GCI adds inversions, Lightning Racer at Hershey Park gets overhauled to feature them.

Cedar Fair tests the waters with Intamin at smaller parks then adds a space themed vertical launch coaster to Cedar Point.
Possible prediction have for the next 5 years. Kennywood getting a new coaster, but something more family oriented. Sure they have their wooden coasters, but I think a more family oriented modern steel coaster could work. Imagine a custom layout that maybe even coasts over the edge of the hill.

Buy or sell: Six Flags Over Texas will get a new elite standout coaster due to the world cup being hosted in Arlington.
Buy or sell: Cedar Fair will add rows to Railblazer to boost capacity.
Don't talk about oblivion like that! The drop is much more intense than any other dive coaster and is my second favourite coaster in the park.
Buy or Sell: If Oblivion at Alton Towers DID somehow get removed in favor for a new SW, it'll be a Vekoma Tilt coaster.
Imagine this: Same X-Sector vibe, similar daunting psychological horror theme, and even the same tunnel that Oblivion used. But instead of hanging off the edge into the hole, you're slowly tilted until you're facing the tunnel, then you drop into the bottomless pit with no escape.
Buy or sell: Valleyfair will get a new Intamin blitz coaster for 2025
Buy or sell: one of silver woods woodies will get a rmc glow up
Buy or sell: CP adds a small scale surf coaster on the boardwalk.
Hot Take:
-If Shivering Timbers weren't a top 5 wood coaster in the world (super underrated), Cedar Fair would close and scrap Michigan's Adventure. It'd be hard to relocate Shivering Timbers, and the company sees value in it. They consistently bring in the lowest profits, have little to no future growth due to lack of tourism in nearest cities, and if the public approved of it I think it could be gone by 2030
Buy or sell: zamperla is going to become a major player in the coaster game with their new lighting train.
Not sure if it's too realistic but my 'Buy or Sell' would be that if Wicked at Lagoon ever got retracked, if would be my Guerstlaur, maybe the second half be reprofiled or have a beyond vertical drop

I could see a B&M dive or vekoma tilt at magic mountain replacing the golden bear theatre. I think there's enough room for something if they crammed it in and maybe removed buccaneer and swashbuckler

Great adventure doesn't get a dive since it's too similar to Medusa and green lantern a wing coaster for a new entrance would be good especially since the parachutes were closed

I really doubt Alton Towers would get rid of Oblivion any time soon. Despite how small it is, it's still extremely popular and has some historical significance. If anything, they might revamp it with a more extensive layout, but I kinda doubt that'll happen either. It fills the same niche as a drop tower really well, and those rides are often even more popular than some of the coasters at a lot of parks.
People think Great Adventure can't be creative. could be a tilt coaster, mack water coaster, or the first ground-up gravity group at a major chain park. Dive still seems likely assuming there would be no tilt coaster.

That would be interesting, I've seen videos of people making their own interpretation of that in No Limits 2. Part of me agrees that it'd be a good upgrade for a park lacking in airtime, but a bigger part of me wants the last Mega Looper to keep its 7-inversion layout for as long as it can.
I'm tall enough to avoid the head-banging and I love it, so if there's anything they can do to make the restraints work for shorter people I'd prefer that.

I’ve talked to co-workers and guests alike about Viper, and some of them have mentioned the restraints being their main gripe (simple fix), while others just can’t get over the general roughness (not so simple).
Who knows what’ll happen, as long as Viper doesn’t leave us prematurely cuz I’ll miss it…

Buy or sell: Busch Gardens Williamsburg will get a giga with the approval for a coaster up to 355 feet they received in 2019. (If you haven’t seen the approval please take a look at it)
Buy or Sell: If Valleyfair does indeed receive a new coaster soon, it will be a Gerstlauer invert (such as Storm @ Tusenfryd) opposed to a B&M.
