Thank you for uploading this. I had this on a VHS tape when I was young. So many memories, these were my childhood Saints. For those of us back then, you were appreciative for whatever success you could have. There will always be a special place in my heart for these Saints. This defense was so amazing that year, if you grew up watching these Saints, there was no Drew Brees or awesome QB play, you were rooting for watching Sam Mills, Rickey Jackson and this defense brutalize quarterbacks and make life a living hell for them.
The Redskins and the Saints were the two best teams in the NFC in 1991. It's hard to believe that they didn't play each other in the playoffs. That year I was sure that was going to be the NFC Championship Game matchup.
The Saint's vs Atlanta Wildcard game was my first Saint's football game. My dad stood in line for 3 hours after Atlanta released some of their unsold tickets. Hated that they lost but got to see these guys in action.
I remembered getting fired from the Real SuperStore on Airline the day the Saints won the West. I tried to call in sick so I could watch the game and the front end manager (who was stealing money) told me if I didn't come in I was fired. Still don't regret that choice.
The 49ers started slow, then won their last 6 games. Tied with the Falcons for the last wildcard at 10-6, but lost out on the tiebreaker by getting swept by Atlanta (both had 3-3 division records) Atlanta finished hot too by going 5-1 in their last 6 games. On the flip side, the Saints started 7-0, but went 4-5 (with a nasty 4 game losing streak) the rest of the way and won the division at 11-5. They lost to the Bears, 49ers, Falcons, & Cowboys which were all playoff or playoff caliber teams, and had loss to a really bad 4-12 San Diego Chargers. I liked the Saints in ‘91, but i personally felt that no matter which wild card team they met up with (Atlanta, Dallas or Chicago) they were going to lose.
There's no telling what the Saints mite have done had they beatin the Falcons in that wild card round. 1991 was a heck of a year though. 1992 was even better despite not winning the NFC West division title that year.
td4lyfe, between 1987 and 1992, the Saints made 4 playoff appearances but didn't win any of their playoff games (1987 NFC WC vs Minnesota, 1990 NFC WC at Chicago, 1991 NFC WC vs. Atlanta and 1992 NFC WC vs. Philadelphia), in fact it wouldn't be until 2000 NFC WC vs. St. Louis Rams (remember Jim Henderson's "Hakim Dropped The Ball" call) that the Saints would win a playoff game. And speaking on '91, I don't think the Saints would have gotten past the Washington Redskins that year.
Somehow if the saints played the Washington Redskins in the NFC divisional playoff at RFK Stadium the field would muddy and their offensive weapons and oline named the hogs would hold their defense without a sack

Remember the year very well, Jim Mora just couldn't get team ready for playoffs those 4 years. He brought hope and pride for first time
Love this. Remember it like it was yesterday. Even though I was like 8

I always wondered what it was like to see Michael Haynes burning all 3 for the game winning TD. Did it look different than the video?

MrSaints74 should come in with a sick note, that is firing with out cause lol.
14:34 ... Little Sam Mills just unloads on Tom Rathman, jarring the ball loose.
Moras play calling. First down run second down run third and 7 pass. Repeat fourth and a centimeter kick field goal
8:41 ... league's smallest LB wraps up the league's biggest RB. Get some!
If we would of had a decent qb we would of had multiple championships
Bobby Hebert was a decent QB.
1991 was a competitive year for the NFC West. The 49ers won 10 games and still missed the playoffs.

They were not beating the Redskins in 91.

The Saints always seemed to shoot themselves in the foot in crucial situations.
Dome patrol
Mora wouldn't go for it on forth and a centimeter lol
13:09 ... fireworks display goes awry; turf set ablaze.
5 turnovers and our offense pits up 13 points
