Back in the day, the way I would benchmark any computer was by answering the question "how many barrels can I explode in GMOD and not crash this thing?"
That probably work alright back then since most had single core or dual core cpus. Source engine isn't multi-threaded, so doing it on a cpu these days is kind of pointless since it will only use one core of your 4, 8 or 16 core cpu. Check task manager and you'll see what I mean.

if you still wanna tinker around a bit, arc9's Escape from tarkov ported weapons are great, pairs really well with any body cam mods because it uses some space age technology that allows anybody from an outside perspective to see exactly what your view model is doing, including a third person camera attached to your head/body, they call it "Third person inverse kinematics" and it really feels good to play around with

Honestly the Kleiner model didn't feel all too out of place in most of those realistic maps (except for the scanned locations) he still looked out of place but not as much as you'd think at first thought, just goes to show how good the human models were in Half-Life 2
@@damsen978 That's a drastic conclusion. TF2 has a specific cartoon look that exaggerates almost every body part they have. HL2 characters have pretty realistic proportions and look fairly good.

i feel like people forget the entire point of a sandboxwhen they ask "why not just play this other game instead?". having all of these mechanics, aswell as the freedom to create what ever scenario you want with whatever environments, weapons, and enemies that you want is so much fun.
I don't have enough creativity for these sandbox games sometimes. One thing I do really like doing is exploring unique maps from the workshop though. That's usually what I do whenever I play Garry's Mod. I was never big into RP and I usually encounter a lot of jerks on there that think they're so high and mighty like admins.

As an amateur gmod mapper, with gm_construct_2022 being my very first map it warms my heart, seeing something i've put about a month of work into, be recognized. For anyone interested in further developments, i have huge plans for an update, as well as a new map, being fusion between flatgrass, construct and bigcity, however motivation dried up for the past year and it takes some astronomical lengths to optimize these kinda things, something which i've been unable to do properly for this particular map for the 4 months i've worked on it, despite vast usage of anything i could get my hands on in terms of optimization, as some areas just flicker due to the sheer amount of vertices visible, as well as invisible water and broken skybox, despite all leaks fixed and hour long map build times through hammer itself, making things actually gruesome to work with. If anyone has some tips, i appreciate it!

I completely agree. I think it's the intro and outro shorts, and how they look purposefully dated, with the weird spinning 3D models, old internet-era font usage, and the cartoon drawing boards. All he needs now to truly send it back in time is the occasional time-lapse of a busy street at night, with the shutter speed changed so that the cars create those cool light-beams.
i bought gmod from a garage sale and the guy gave it to me for free, i booted the game up and hyper-realistic kleiner looked at me and choked me through the screen
I really love how these older source engine games look. I would honestly enjoy new games coming out today with that same look and even graphical fidelity. Graphics honestly don't even matter. The most important thing about what a game looks like is the art style. That's why i still love how some older games look more than a lot of new games.

7:14 I don't know when this was recorded but in there is a weapon base called 'Arc9' made by Arctic. Someone ported most of Tarkov's weapons using Arc9 and it by far is the most 'realistic' weapon mod out there. Ammo jamming / Misfires, hundreds of different attachments, etc.
Tarkov recoil though. irl operators can get 30 shots in like one inch without much issue but in tarkov it's like we're new gun owners who are like "WOAW THIS KICKS"

Gmod realism has it's own charm. It's uniqe because you can make your own stories, operations, machinimas with it. It's still sandbox limited just by your imagination. It's YOUR story. Hell, you can even pair it with wiremod, stop motion tool a few friends and create "War of the servers" size film. Gmod has so much possibilities.
Even if it is graphically dated by todays standards, compared to most other games at the time, like halo 2 for instance, it really is impressive just how good it looks for 2004, even holds up a bit today
@@-kstyle Half Life 2 today is not the same as Half life 2 in 2004. The source engine has gone through multiple updates since then, including HL2. They were still pretty good for 04 standards, what was most impressive were the physics and the facial animations.
I have to respect every single modder who sat down and spent the time to "clean up" models over the course of more than a decade. Some of them were younger than 18, I bet. They loved Garry's mod enough to put hours of work into figuring out how to clean up every asset from Half Life 2 and Half Life 2 Episode 2. They knew they'd never get paid for it, but they did it. And I respect every hour they put into it for things like this. If you're one of them reading this - good fucking job. You did a thing. And you did a thing that people should respect in the years to come. Edit: Some things might be AI done, but I know there are modders out there who did it personally.
People don't play gmod to play just any old fps game. Gmod is about experimenting with the features of fps games. It was originally made to test out the source physics and gravity gun. Also it's just fun to mess around with mods and Ragdolls.
i love ratlobber because he doesnt just show you his content and then lets you doomscroll on his account, he shows you actual good and well made addons to use and also takes time to demonstrate them to the viewer to cue them in on how actually good the assets he used.
The reason Gmod realism is so much fun is for the same reason Gmod is fun, it’s customizable. Yeah, I could just get Ready Or Not and play that, or I could make my own tactical shooter and tweak it to my liking. For example, you use the MW weapons in the video, and I often do too. But I often go into the system setting if it in Gmod and change the position of the gun on my screen. And when I don’t use MW weapons I can use CW2 or the Insurgency weapons, which completely change how it plays. And of course there’s all the different maps to choose from. On Ready Or Not I’ve got a majority of the base maps memorized and I know the layout and where people tend to be. Even with it be randomized every time, there only so many places people can be. In Gmod, I can put anyone anywhere, let them roam for awhile, and then have no idea where they are.
Half Life 2 was my introduction to the engine's beauty - The Orange Box changed *everything*. It was as realistic as you describe. Then, when we found out about GMOD - it was like we became Gods. 3000+ hours played.

Here’s a little fact: in the insertion 2 map addon the store that’s called co-op is an actual store that is popular in Norway. When I saw it, I just couldn’t help but point it out.
Why not make an addon collection of this for people to try for themselves? Also, the problem with this is the lack of game modes. Like it looks cool and all but without a fun deathmatch gamemode for us to play, all that realism doesn't really add much, we got bored in an hour or so without it.

Theres an addon that makes blood itself and its behaviour very realistic, it makes shooting experience cooler than the one you could see in lots of modern shooters nowadays
The photogrammetry map made me think, if someone could record a larger unfurnished house that would be a great basis for a map. Like any "for sale" house where the owners have already moved out. Then the gamer can fill it with high fidelity props to their taste and get the best of both worlds.
Who needs Tarkov, MW2019-23 realism if GMOD's amazing modding community can do that for you. Here's to you modders may you continue to create more and more in the future

Dude just took free UE store assets, cheap quixel scans, paid a commission animator, and did some camera tweaks. His twitter and youtube shows him messing with basic plugins in UE4 and lying about making them himself. Then he scammed a french rapper with his unrecord project so that he can disappear forever, lmfao. Hilarious that anyone thought that was anything more than a braindead investor scam. Kind of amazing it's still on the steamstore and yet The Day Before investor scam is long gone.

Gmod realism has it's own charm. It's uniqe because you can make your own stories, operations, machinimas with it. It's still sandbox limited just by your imagination. It's YOUR story.
Hell, you can even pair it with wiremod, stop motion tool a few friends and create "War of the servers" size film.
Gmod has so much possibilities.
Even if it is graphically dated by todays standards, compared to most other games at the time, like halo 2 for instance, it really is impressive just how good it looks for 2004, even holds up a bit today
yeah, the technology half life 2 handled was years ahead from its time. their physics and facial expressions feature still holds up to modern times.
@@-kstyle Half Life 2 today is not the same as Half life 2 in 2004. The source engine has gone through multiple updates since then, including HL2. They were still pretty good for 04 standards, what was most impressive were the physics and the facial animations.

I have to respect every single modder who sat down and spent the time to "clean up" models over the course of more than a decade. Some of them were younger than 18, I bet. They loved Garry's mod enough to put hours of work into figuring out how to clean up every asset from Half Life 2 and Half Life 2 Episode 2. They knew they'd never get paid for it, but they did it. And I respect every hour they put into it for things like this.
If you're one of them reading this - good fucking job. You did a thing. And you did a thing that people should respect in the years to come.
Edit: Some things might be AI done, but I know there are modders out there who did it personally.
People don't play gmod to play just any old fps game. Gmod is about experimenting with the features of fps games. It was originally made to test out the source physics and gravity gun. Also it's just fun to mess around with mods and Ragdolls.
This guy used the songs from Ape Escape 3 at various parts of the video I love it so much. I never thought I would here those songs anywhere else.
I remember the first time I played HL2, i had never seen such amazing graphics and i thought that games couldnt get any more realistic.

i love ratlobber because he doesnt just show you his content and then lets you doomscroll on his account, he shows you actual good and well made addons to use and also takes time to demonstrate them to the viewer to cue them in on how actually good the assets he used.

The reason Gmod realism is so much fun is for the same reason Gmod is fun, it’s customizable. Yeah, I could just get Ready Or Not and play that, or I could make my own tactical shooter and tweak it to my liking. For example, you use the MW weapons in the video, and I often do too. But I often go into the system setting if it in Gmod and change the position of the gun on my screen. And when I don’t use MW weapons I can use CW2 or the Insurgency weapons, which completely change how it plays. And of course there’s all the different maps to choose from. On Ready Or Not I’ve got a majority of the base maps memorized and I know the layout and where people tend to be. Even with it be randomized every time, there only so many places people can be. In Gmod, I can put anyone anywhere, let them roam for awhile, and then have no idea where they are.
Half Life 2 was my introduction to the engine's beauty - The Orange Box changed *everything*. It was as realistic as you describe. Then, when we found out about GMOD - it was like we became Gods. 3000+ hours played.
As a Swede, it was incredibly cool to see such a realistic Swedish map.
I was honestly very confused when i saw the green co-op sign. Like, I didn't know if it was a reference or just a fluke. But now that I think about it, it's quite obviously a reference.

Here’s a little fact: in the insertion 2 map addon the store that’s called co-op is an actual store that is popular in Norway. When I saw it, I just couldn’t help but point it out.
The map is set in sweden tho, looked it up and I had no idea that Norway also had coop.

Why not make an addon collection of this for people to try for themselves? Also, the problem with this is the lack of game modes. Like it looks cool and all but without a fun deathmatch gamemode for us to play, all that realism doesn't really add much, we got bored in an hour or so without it.

Theres an addon that makes blood itself and its behaviour very realistic, it makes shooting experience cooler than the one you could see in lots of modern shooters nowadays
The photogrammetry map made me think, if someone could record a larger unfurnished house that would be a great basis for a map. Like any "for sale" house where the owners have already moved out. Then the gamer can fill it with high fidelity props to their taste and get the best of both worlds.

15:57 Ironically, the amount of work that went into your project was like 100x more work that went into the unrecord tech demo. Dude just took free UE store assets, cheap quixel scans, paid a commission animator, and did some camera tweaks. His twitter and youtube shows him messing with basic plugins in UE4 and lying about making them himself. Then he scammed a french rapper with his unrecord project so that he can disappear forever, lmfao. Hilarious that anyone thought that was anything more than a braindead investor scam. Kind of amazing it's still on the steamstore and yet The Day Before investor scam is long gone.
The day before came back and then was game ended 4 days later. Also I never heard about this, that sucks.
