I was lucky to be in this nursery in 2021, they produce a lot of trees.
hello!! I am glad you were in this nursery. Where is this nursery located? whats the name?
Good day
If the publisher of this video allows me to do so I will give you that info as they do not mention it here, but I will also not do it on the public domain due to the POPIA, but can sent it to you privately as a business reference to them.
@@AgricultureAcademy I'm from Tzaneen Bolobedu... how much does each tree cost?
@@rhulanimashaba2614 I believe the manager mentioned something along the lines of R300 each. This stands to be corrected though.
Hello friend, I want to buy avocado plant for avocado plantation in India. What is the price of avocado plant. And age and other Details, how can it be sent to India.Thank you
Does anybody know the logic behind double grafting these plants?
How is this better than just grafting once?
Hey Dom, I think the reason it's done is so they can grow the fruiting variety on a specific rootstock variety. The rootstocks they use are mostly patented varieties and likely selected for disease resistance, salt tolerance etc. I have been looking into this technique for a few months, but I would be skipping the rootstock variety and just graft the named variety onto a seedling. I first came across this Frolich method from a video by a New Zealand avocado nursery. It interested me because it seems the way that they etiolate the stems seems to make it possible to air-layer them. I think ordinarily air-layers don't normally work on avocados, but when the stems are grown in a completely dark environment they have a greater chance to root when marcotted. I thought it might be quite handy to attempt at some point so I could grow a named variety (or the fruiting London variety) on its own roots and therefore if the tree ever died back to the roots it will come back true to type 👍
@@PeterEntwistleThanks for explaining that this process makes them possible to marcot with the aim to produce plants with a selected rootstock
This particular video is really informative / educational. I like that they stated that Axocado plants don't need strong light when they are young seedlings. If kept in the dark (etiolate?) then they will develop stronger root systems and the plants will stretch more, in search of a light source.
Underneath the London avocado tree I saw many seedlings that had grown from fruit that had falled to the ground .... at this ground level there was very little light but the seedlings looked very healthy. I have found this to be the case in seedling I grow in the shade.
So the take-away for me is to keep young avo seedlings in low light.
B How long does the process take from grafting to root emergence?
This is really amazing, how can I contact you, I need 1000 seedlings for commercial farming
This was filmed at ZZ2 farms in Tzaneen, South Africa. If you contact them they may be able to assist.
Do you have avocado marcotting tutorial video?
I also would like to contact this nursery for more information especially pricing for Hass
Hey guys I would like to attend your training or be involved in a volunteering programme at your nursery.
please let me know if this is may come true
Hello!
This video was filmed at the ZZ2 nursery in Tzaneen, perhaps contacting them directly will be of greater help!

WHY is it 'double grafted' ?
The first graft onto the seedling is of a scion that was specifically selected for the roots it will produce later on. Once that graft is successful, rooting compound is applied to that scion and the genetically selected roots sprout from it. The top of that rooting scion is cut later on, and the second scion is grafted onto it, and that one is specifically selected for the type of fruit it will produce. At the end, the original roots from the genetically random seedling die off, and you're left with a cloned root system from a mother tree that has awesome roots (like an isolated Zutano from seed that that turned out better than the rest), and a cloned scion on top of that from a different mother tree that was specifically selected for its fruit (like Hass, Fuerte, etc.). This way you can choose root genetics that best fit your environment, while growing whichever fruit you decide.
@@mellojoe6281 Wow - such science! amazing yet simple. Thanks for the consice explanation !
Kindly share contact details of the nursery?

I didn't think it'd be so complicated to make an avocado tree. But now i know why my avo plants have so much problem.
It doesn’t have to be. You can just grow a seed then graft onto it and most of the time the rootstock will work just fine.
