Destiny feels like some weird abusive relationship; it learns from it's mistakes temporarily, pretends to work on the underlying issues to coax money out of you and then relapses on it's problems in an endless cycle.

and we've all reached the tipping point where we're done with it's bullshit. I'm tired of a pvp sandbox that never, never, feels stable and satisfying. I'm tired of constantly rotating pve activities that feel both too easy and too annoying to keep me hooked. I'm tired of the pve sandbox having fun and interesting builds that are consistently bad or simply outperformed by more dominant choices. I quit a few months ago. I will not look back fondly at Destiny.

I remember when things were *NEW* in this world. Hell, I remember being in the recording team with you when Warden of Nothing was the strike and you recorded the mission's music manually. Recently my dad got back into the game after leaving in season 10 and had to rebuild from scratch. Seeing him react to everything new has been so much fun. I...really wish I could have that feeling again. Prismatic didn't do it for me. Not a lot has past the 30th anniversary pack.
I long for something truly new, and I don't quite know if there's anything in that tank left to burn up.

I let go before Beyond Light and am very happy to have done so. I loved this game's lore with passionate storytellers, people that looked at it and knew of a universe you could exist in.
I have found new worlds and stories to exist within. I've found elsewhere that the passion exists in, still. Destiny's time is over. Arguably, it has been over.
I don't see anything good coming from Bungie any further either.
In the words of Shin Malphur, Dredgen Vale, Nothing Ends. Your times in the game and its story and universe are all yours. They will never end. Take your anger, sadness, happiness, etc... to new worlds.

41:40 this really stuck out to me in final shape. While i do like the story we got, it was so weird to me that the ships we kept seeing all those years amounted to a 60 second lightfall cutscene. Even if they were empty, I feel like their presence should have been more important instead of just fading into rainbows when the portal opened. It feels like we have more myterious pyramid fleet forshadow cutscene run time then we do Witness screen time despite the fleet itself amounting to nothing in the end

Hi, it's kinda strange to be here, writing a comment. I just finished watching the video. I started following you since I found out about you in 2019. From 2021 and on, I just stopped watching everything with my main account and just started being online only with Incognito mode on. Then, why am I writing this? You see, it's the first time I felt close to someone on the internet. I had a sort of glimpse of this feeling only once prior to today (I used to read your tweets), but this video was simply an epiphany. You just said what I've been thinking since day 1: the inspiration you get from the lore, the art and the music; the change in direction, the missed opportunities... everything. Hell, I, too, came to face depression during your same period. This condition, united with obsession, made carrying on so difficult. This obsession also made me stop interacting with everything on the internet with my main, due to the fear of change. But things are getting better. But the feeling you gave me today just goes beyond this video. You are an amazing thinker. I had to tell you. I don't know you personally, but I sense that you are an amazing person as well. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I hope you'll feel better soon
    Edit:
Sorry for my writing mistakes. English isn't my first language

34:45 I think this here is probably the best reason for why Staten left bungie after his story was almost or completely done. The higher ups (of bungie and Activision) constantly stuck their hands in the pot and instead of fixing concepts and reworking them they would trash them and make new ones. The same reason there is such a tonal shift in Rise of Iron to D2 Vanilla. And why i theorize they keep ignoring Rise of Iron (like in their timeline stream before Final Shape).

Aside from being a constant reminder of my loneliness in life, the most joy I'll remember about this game beating raids in D1 with my homie and being a sherpa oftentimes to whoever needed help. That Part of Destiny died long ago. No one has patience and time anymore. To most of us, it's hardly fun it's just a chore.

I know this might be a big ask but could you expand on how Savathun's actions in Lost contradicted her previous lore? It's been a bit since I brushed up on the old Savathun lore and I can't remember how Lost could have contradicted her previous motives given how vague they were beforehand. I do remember that Quiria and the Endless Night were anticlimactic though.

    • @ArchivalMind
      @ArchivalMind  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

In Witch Queen, Bungie set up that Savathun's goal was to get the Light, which would eventually lead to a VERY half-baked plan to secure the Traveler in the High Coven and stop the Witness. The entirety of Year 4 built up to this, Lost most of all, though I don't mind it nearly as much since Splicer already did most of the damage. Prior to Beyond Light, it was more or less stated that Savathun's goal was something "beyond Light and Dark" philosophically, to not be bound by the chains of either side. This is the speech she gave to Nokris and lines up with her phrases in the Books of Sorrow, where she questioned the Sword Logic. The Dreaming City Curse was a prototype for something else, according to Toland, but we never saw where this went. Truth to Power offered an explanation, that being to find and exploit the Distributary singularity, but that went nowhere either. If we're to accept the Hidden Dossier's take on Truth to Power as admission of its true purpose, then her goal would've been to completely free herself from the bounds of this universe and live in the parent universe, which is assumed to be our world.
Ultimately, it still comes down to "chains". Savathun felt the chains around her neck when it came to Darkness, but was clearly not trusting of the Light either. By letting herself die (thereby ending "her", because her new self, even with her old memories, is still a new person) and getting the Light, she chains herself to the other side. She's not free. She willingly let herself be, by her own old definition, a pawn. Savathun in Y4 onward may as well be a new character. She's practically already one as of Witch Queen.

Dude when I started hearing "Saint is a simulation" thrown around I started losing it. How can something so clear and obvious from Dawn be so... misinterpreted? Hell the events of the story don't even really align with it. Saint's a paradox but not a simulation, and the story confirmed that, but everyone keeps saying simulation like it's true. There's no consistency within the Episode itself and it just bothers me. Had me real worried about Revenant but so far it's... actually pretty good on the narrative front. Weaker Act 2 ending but I'll take that over the constant waves of anger I felt during Echoes.

Back in early 2017, I got the demo for Destiny and loved it so much that I probably played it 30+ times before I asked if I could get it. For the majority of my time I was definitely solo w/ no friends to play with (same with D2); but in 2020, I finally decided to get a mic and do my first raid. After which I did more, made two friends, and had some of the happiest months I’ve ever had in my life, though we drifted in 2021.
Destiny gave me the first friends I really ever had, and I somberly accept the fact that my time with this game is likely ending.
I doubt you’ll ever read this, and I honestly don’t know much about the nuances behind the events that happened to you, although they still wrench my heart.
I’m gonna end here cause this is already too long and poorly condensed. But I want you to know your days won’t always be 5 minutes to 7 centuries long. Keep getting up. Keep going. you deserve happiness. The joy this game brought to you will always be a part of you, like many other things.

Funny enough Season of the Splicer was peak Destiny for me, although that ending definitely was disappointing. I think part of the reason for it being so good is playing with friends, especially when Vault of Glass was released. I vividly remember waking up in the morning waiting for the weekly reset to play the next mission. It's a nostalgic memory that I still have whenever I play this game. That and when I first played in 2018-19, Titan was one of my favorite destinations.

Either Toland or akka get the echo and somehow oryx the navigator is involved(hopefully not as the echo). We use Akka or Ahsa as a ship into Apollo. At least that's that I'm gathering from clues. As you said they have left a lot of holes etc. Hopefully revenant and Heresy tie things up. Echoes and the vesper dungeon will have to do with Apollo and vex.

I would probably get in a big fight with you over a couple seasons here and there but by and large, appreciated actually hearing from someone who has kept up with things in a similar fashion to myself. Appreciate the video, and if there was ever a time to step back it's now. Wishing you the best in the next 10 years.
This P.S. is gonna be longer than the main comment so feel free to ignore me. I get your complaints on the witness / pyramid pivot. I think what they did was fine, but all those old threads were stronger. I'm glad that the winnower has been reconfirmed so I can just daydream about that half of darkness lore. What I will say is I think final shape, specifically the Micah voice lines and when you pick up the traveller balls, really put the Traveller and it's actions / inaction to bed for me. A lot of this stuff could be inferred by various Dreams of Alpha Lupi, but I think it being presented as it was helped a lot of things click. I think the idea that the traveller just doesn't know what to do with being worshipped is a fun twist on a cosmic "god". And I think leaving the mystery hanging of what caused the schism between it and the veil, is a decent enough hook to take up many years from now (if the game survives)

I haven't finished the whole video, but I feel like I'm listening to my own thoughts put to words here lol. It's crazy because the point that really hooked me was also the Taken King and the Books of Sorrow specifically. I mean, it made me a total Oryx fanboy to this date. He felt like a proper "end of universe" type threat that The Witness never really achieved for me although that's probably just bias talking too. The majority of talk I saw online post TFS was positive regarding the story and I just felt crazy because it didn't feel satisfying to me at all. The epiphany that came to me in that moment was that Destiny as it is can not properly cater to any of its fans. Hardcore PvP players for years have been upset with that facet the game. Hardcore PvE players find no challenge or long term objectives to strive for. And the hardcore lore nerds can't really be satiated either because the grimoire has generally always told a much more interesting, nuanced and mysterious story that I think Bungie is afraid to insert into the actual campaigns. Rather, they make them as easily digestible and understandable as they can possibly be, probably to avoid D1's Vanilla campaign again. But then again, Lightfall showed me Bungie is still capable of making terribly written stories. At least D1's campaign was a aesthetically pleasing pile of shit where as Lightfall felt like an uninspired piece of shit. I hate being so negative, but it just baffles me when I see everything this series has been through.
Season of The Seraph was peak for me personally. Actually, almost every last season of any given year was always good imo. Opulence, Arrivals, Lost and Seraph were all incredible. Wish kinda broke that streak for me. It wasn't bad, but it just didn't resonate for me. Anyway, back to Seraph. That final cutscene just filled my mind with intrigued about what was to come. And that last shot of the traveler sitting above earth that mirrors the earliest promotional art we'd seen for this series just hyped me up even more. That was it though, after that was a steep drop off in interest, followed by occasional upward peaks, but mostly just indifference.
I don't know how to close this. I don't hate Destiny and I imagine a lot of current and past devs would agree with a lot of the critiques that we all have about the direction of the game over the years. It's a safe bet that the more interesting ideas and concepts from over the years were only cut due to time and budget issues. I hope Bungie can take this game to new peaks still.

I felt like it actually damaged my view of other seasons' stories with the horrible writing. It had good ideas but the execution was terrible IMO.
I don't get why people think it's good.

    • @ArchivalMind
      @ArchivalMind  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

Honestly Splicer needed to be a full DLC to have worked with what they wanted to tackle. A season crams everything in and Splicer is easily where that is apparent. Eido worked well as a side character but the story was undercooked with what she provided. The lore worked semi-well except when confronted with the gameplay. Saint and Mithrax had the only solid arc, but as I said, Mithrax lost his old character traits besides the basic "want to work with humanity rather than against".
A DLC could've also made the antagonist angle actually grow. Savathun could've had a more developed plot with the Endless Night, even if the actual simulation didn't further her goals besides cunning and undermining our position. It being a DLC would mean "undermining our position" would actually have had consequences besides the factions being removed. Being a DLC, it also meant the dialogue probably would've gotten another pass because dear god. Quria could've had more time, maybe setting up or even, gasp, paying off the plotlines that years 1 and 2 had set up for it.
We could've also had Namrask as an actual character taking up the "Eliksni negative" side, and that could lead to making Lakshmi more believably evil as she exploits even some of the Eliksni's own regrets against their own race. Tone down the "Savathun obviously did this" -isms and crank up the slow, believable arc of a paranoid prophet with trauma try to go for power by using legitimate arguments that sway people to her side. Also have characters interact with her in-game so that we can actually see why people in this universe would be for or against this idea, especially since Ikora made a government-shattering executive decision on her own without consensus. Make it believable that Ikora and Lakshmi actually contend with the former's decision and the latter's responses so that it doesn't just look like our Warlock Vanguard did literally nothing but talk shit until the FWC opened a portal in the City.
Oh, speaking of other passes, Savathun in particular could've gotten one so she wasn't a colossal idiot. Make her knowledgeable, make her actually deceitful. Her disguise between Presage and Splicer is day and night respectively. It's so weird how some seasons have drastic narrative quality differences.

honestly you're better off playing indie games over destiny.
especially with some BANGERS like deltarune and silksong coming

Curse of Osiris’s story is the worst story in Destiny history. Yes, even vanilla D1. CoO destroyed Brother Vance as a cool character and he became a cringe fanboy, and there was lore that stated the Vex cannot time travel, they can only simulate. Thankfully that was fixed eventually, but holy hell, CoO was the absolute worst story and lore wise.
One exception was how good the Saint 14 story was.

@@larswyness1901 Echoes is far worse. Ruining a character and being finicky with some lore is better than ruining an entire faction, introducing a horribly written antagonist, having worse dialogue than Warmind, and being so internally inconsistent narratively that you can barely recognize the externally inconsistent bits, of which there are many.

Final shape was just forsaken corpse reanimated to please the fans.
Destiny 1-2 died with Forsaken. Cut off from infinite money from Activision killed bungie and now in the hands of sony overlords nothing good would come out of them
    Times have changed.
Bungie should close off Destiny after final shape and start another ip.
but they would milk their halo aka destiny legacy
And it pains.. PAINS my heart, because during Forsaken Destiny was the king of the shooter world with GOOD GOOD lore and brilliant visuals with MW 19 level shooting systems.
Now only warframe remains, because Rebecca saved them.
I wish i have not played destiny 2 at all. but i still would remember it.
    For Cayde.
    TLDR. Destiny was blackrocked.

Warframe is fine but the gunplay is kinda garbage. D2 still has the best gunplay in the industry, no game even comes close whatsoever.

@ warframe is not about gunplay, but about the flow and melee.
