The entire point of thr forst game, I'm under the impression, was to see if anyome was even gonna be into it. And if we were, what did we want in it, on top of what they wanted to do with it.
I theorize they knew VR2 wouldn't be able to handle it grand ambition early on.
Sadly, too many folk are interested in the ride and jist want "a finished product" details be darned. Boring honestly.

At first glance, seeing the armor blocks deform whilst everything else shatters feels weird but when considering armor is designed to absorb damage to protect what's behind it, it makes sense that it deforms instead.

For repairing, i think a cool look would be to to use a frame to fix the destruction. So lets say you blast half a door off. Now you have the half door and a hole. So you go to repair it. Welding much like you do in SE but when you start to repair, it generates the frame that shows up when you place a block to build just inside the damaged blocked. Then you weld it back up like normal. But once the block explodes, that's it. It's gone.
Armor blocks i think should deform like we see since they are supposed to be taking damage. The blocks could use some sort of effects to hide the vanishing but that can come later.

  • @Briskyyy

id say the big blocks not fructuring may be a performance thing as in big collisions all those armour blocks fracturing plus how they would fracture in relation to connected armour blocks and other function blocks like windows, seats ect, and they would have to give the armour blocks interior textures which means more resources needed to render them. and also a convenience thing as it would probably be very frustrating if all youre armour blocks got fractured and blown off instead of just needing to go back and weld them, the blocks are still a solid easily repairable foundation while everything else fractures and breaks. for repairing i wonder if they will overlay the blocks build state cause id assume we will have SE-1 style block build states, overlay the blocks build state in damaged areas and it will weld up like building a new block but just the damaged area

    • @Vessekx
      @Vessekx 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

Each block that supports fracturing has each possible fracture point built into the model. That would mean every armor block fractured in exactly the same way, where deformation is done dynamically. It would also mean that a bit of damage to a few selected armor blocks could slice off entire chunks of the ship without having to actually *destroy* a single block.
Armor blocks are intended to be structural, so fracturing would make ships far too fragile.

I like the idea that they have in space engineers 1. Blocks can be functional without being fully built and look better when fully built.
If you had to replace a whole object, depending on how they do survival mode, I'd be pretty freakin annoyed.
Altho, I wouldnt mind if they did something like, repaired parts look like they have been welded on or something. Maybe slightly less durable but fully functional.
Not sure actually... It depends on what they want survival mode to BE. If its something closer to a space adventure, or their previous survival mode where it was mostly just, existing.
Really entirely depends on the game mechanics they have surrounding it and how it all interacts. I can see both versions of the repaired destruction being incredibly dull if put into a game not designed around that idea.

Just to reiterate: If you wish it had more functionality, than just wait. To say Keen should have not released it now, and instead when it had more functionality is meaning that you would rather others not be able to test the more limited version, and everyone have to wait until a level that you are happy with.
That's not helpful to Keen, nor is it thinking at all about the people who are fine testing and helping improve the game in the more limited state, so the more feature-filled one is even better.
And to content creators specifically: Jack, yes, I know for you that's not as much an option because you need to make content about stuff as its released and relevant for the Algorithm. But that's just part of the price of being a content creator. Sometimes you have to review stuff you may not be fond of. It's fine to voice your opinion, but you have to recognize what your opinion means to people who have different tolerances for bugs or lack of features. But it prevents Keen from gathering that early feedback. You also can't forget that denying other people enjoyment of a more limited game would be robbing them of that fun. To be blunt, it's selfish.

@@Runkiee that would imply they make hydrogen engines use oxygen as well.
And that thrusters would actually apply torque which is still my biggest immersion break for the game.
They could easily implement thruster torque as removing the torque actually takes more code.
"But with thruster torque, building would be so annoying."
Nope. First, gyros would max out torque to counter it. Second, thrust balancing would be used to fix the torque. Third, we could actually have gyro-less ships by having thrusters be used for attitude control automatically. Gyros would just allow you to turn without thrust, turn faster than thrusters would allow, or maximize thrust on unbalanced ships.
I think it would make the engineering in game more interesting and look less ridiculous.

      @@Vessekx I know, but there's still a way.
If you place a slope, you end up with half block occupied, if you tell the game that you can use that half block, you end up with either another slope block, making a full cube, or you can place a full cube on the slope, ending up with 3 free half block spaces around the cube. It's a bit complicated for me to explain in written English, since it's not my first language, hopefully you understand what I'm trying to say.

Imagine if a ship is on fire that you would need to use water, or vent the ship out. xD

Personally i think i will wait let se2 cook a bit before i buy in. Also i know this is probably a ways off but it would be nice if survival had a bit more of a story. Maybe even some actual npcs?

Hopefully there will be more "goals" and challenges in this game. Space engineers got meaningless after 1600 hours😵‍💫

Anyone else just a little annoyed that they picked a monday to launch? ;p
Edit: But yes, there is a good reason for it. Help them not get overwhelmed with people hopping in if they launched say on a friday night. Helps sort of ease in the load to launch on such a usually busy day like a monday. Still.. means I have to wait until after work ;p

Is it just me, or do things just feel much larger in scale compared to the first game?
Might be the lighting giving things more depth.

I actually want armor blocks not to fracture. Armor blocks should act as armor.
