@akaSanka89 this! The entire point of thr forst game, I'm under the impression, was to see if anyome was even gonna be into it. And if we were, what did we want in it, on top of what they wanted to do with it. I theorize they knew VR2 wouldn't be able to handle it grand ambition early on. Sadly, too many folk are interested in the ride and jist want "a finished product" details be darned. Boring honestly.
For repairing blocks it would be cool if some minor fracturing stayed but if you used a grinder to get the block down to a non functional state then repaired from there it went back to being brand new looking
At first glance, seeing the armor blocks deform whilst everything else shatters feels weird but when considering armor is designed to absorb damage to protect what's behind it, it makes sense that it deforms instead. P.s I wouldn't be surprised if fragments disappearing when you walk into them is a klang mitigation attempt
I will say that I like that the components like gyros, reactors, and gravity blocks are built into cubes so they can line the walls instead of being awkwardly placed in the middle of the floor
I’d say to reset a blocks original state you would be able to fully repair it but then after press a button or just hold down the welder to use more resources to repair it back to the original state.
Since they made the faces more visible, even with the helmet closed, it would be nice if they would add at least some level of face customization. Just to give players a little more on-screen personality.
If armor fractured, every ship would get instantly depressurized on first contact. Armor blocks are meant to protect, so of course they don’t just shatter
Played since the earliest days of Space Engineers, this new early access phase is very familiar. When I started playing there weren't even glass windows yet. Exciting to see what will come.
This. It kept things fresh seeing new stuff added in , amd performance jumps along the way. Not that I wasn't already fiddling around with ship 100390 lol
The regular armor blocks fracturing sounds like a really weird choice for metal. Especially since bending metal is an iconic part of Space Engineers and separates it from the knock-off and competition.
It makes sense that blocks made as Armor will Deform before breaking. Because that's generally how Tank armor ideally works. It will bend and deform, rather than suddenly shatter.
for anyone wondering, you CAN copy/paste more than one blocks at a time. You can drag out the selection box in any direction in 3d space to cover any amount of blocks
For repairing, i think a cool look would be to to use a frame to fix the destruction. So lets say you blast half a door off. Now you have the half door and a hole. So you go to repair it. Welding much like you do in SE but when you start to repair, it generates the frame that shows up when you place a block to build just inside the damaged blocked. Then you weld it back up like normal. But once the block explodes, that's it. It's gone. Armor blocks i think should deform like we see since they are supposed to be taking damage. The blocks could use some sort of effects to hide the vanishing but that can come later.
I know that pistons and rotors are NYI, but when they are I'd be interested in finding out if the 'no damage at low velocity' system means we can implement gears and clockwork with detail blocks
The floating bits must be limited for performance reasons. Since armor makes up the bulk of most ships, it may not be CPU friendly to shred them into thousands of individually tracked pieces.
Maybe 2 types of repair tools. One that does work "fast" but only restores function and the other tha works "slow" but restores the block and function.
I'll wait till the hydrogen blocks comes into the game. Would be fun recreating SE1 ships with all the details that normally would not be possible. 🙂 8:30 Maybe partly repair it will function again, with the missing pieces. but if you go full 100%, it brings it back to full glory?
Honestly this alpha state that its releasing in is a huge upgrade in terms of visuals and how individual parts look, no shade to original SE, but I feel like after this game has more features added it's going to be great. Can't wait for the release on Monday!
Two modes: a patch mode and a repair mode. The patch mode just puts out fires, fixes dents, but doesn’t replace lost material. the repair mode requires materials but replaces materials while still leaving a “scar” of some sort
I got an idea for solid armour block destruction. What if it has like bullet impacts and some heated metal effects then when the block reaches the non functional state, new bullet holes appear as penetrations. I also feel like a thing missing from all the destruction effects are like glowing orange sparks and embers, they were just violently torn apart after all
There are many extremely talented and gifted people who create for SE1. Like, epic level creations that truly amaze me. With the detail added in SE2, be prepared to be totally mind blown by their creations. My tiny mind can not fathom what will come out but judging based off what SE1 creations they produced. I'm going to just freak out with their SE2 pieces of Art. THIS is what excites me the most, is seeing what you guys come up with.
id say the big blocks not fructuring may be a performance thing as in big collisions all those armour blocks fracturing plus how they would fracture in relation to connected armour blocks and other function blocks like windows, seats ect, and they would have to give the armour blocks interior textures which means more resources needed to render them. and also a convenience thing as it would probably be very frustrating if all youre armour blocks got fractured and blown off instead of just needing to go back and weld them, the blocks are still a solid easily repairable foundation while everything else fractures and breaks. for repairing i wonder if they will overlay the blocks build state cause id assume we will have SE-1 style block build states, overlay the blocks build state in damaged areas and it will weld up like building a new block but just the damaged area
seems like the fractures vanish if they share space with a player for a certain amount of time after the initial destruction. might be intended for now to prevent some kind of major physics issue
It would be cool if things repaired to being functional without replacing the broken off part, then after the functional line, it starts to add back the broken off parts, kind of like how hacking blocks works in SE1, where you go below a certain line when grinding.
I didn't start until after the Warfare 2 update, but now I'm approaching 4000 hours in SE1 and I am quite ready to start building hours in SE2!!! The potential for the game and the even deeper moddability than before is so exciting.
my hypothesis for doors not working and hangar doors etc is because airtightness isn't figured out yet with the new partial destruction models, so they keep doors and other ways to make something airtight open for the time being
i cannot even count how many times ive acidentally painted my entire ship one color becuase of trying to remember the key combinations for paint functions
Each block that supports fracturing has each possible fracture point built into the model. That would mean every armor block fractured in exactly the same way, where deformation is done dynamically. It would also mean that a bit of damage to a few selected armor blocks could slice off entire chunks of the ship without having to actually *destroy* a single block. Armor blocks are intended to be structural, so fracturing would make ships far too fragile.
it reminds of the start of SC1 when i wached old videos i only new of SC durring planet wars and it around the time that 32 episode had all ready come out so yea i only discovered SE at that time
We're going to need cargo offset conveyors to allow *really* building off the 'large' grid. Also, I'm looking at the engineer model, and noticing that his head is scaled either as though his suit is his skin, or his body is extremely emaciated underneath the suit.
If you want them to wait to release the game, just wait to play the game, let everyone who wants to play it now as is play it as is. Stop being jealous that people are going to have more fun than you making videos about the current state of the game.
I was there at the beginning of SE1, although I'm not the best engineer its my most played game on Steam, even more than CounterStrike which is impressive tbh.... I just got it preloaded so all ready to go!

I like the idea that they have in space engineers 1. Blocks can be functional without being fully built and look better when fully built. If you had to replace a whole object, depending on how they do survival mode, I'd be pretty freakin annoyed. Altho, I wouldnt mind if they did something like, repaired parts look like they have been welded on or something. Maybe slightly less durable but fully functional. Not sure actually... It depends on what they want survival mode to BE. If its something closer to a space adventure, or their previous survival mode where it was mostly just, existing. Really entirely depends on the game mechanics they have surrounding it and how it all interacts. i hope if they add rockets that they add 2 variants, armour penning which will pen through armour then explode leaving a tunnel through the armour and damage on the inside and the high explosive one for just impact damage.
