Finally! I worked on these like 8 months ago and I'm happy to see they're finally released and can talk about them. This is a great overview I can point to when people ask me what the differences are, great video. The 4-pin on the back can also be used to output CRSF or SBUS to a flight controller and still have the PWM outputs as well.
I'm not sure you are right, checked the website, not a single mention and no pins to solder on the PCB pictures that show front and back without the sticker. Was already wondering they are not usefull for quads.
@@Photonees You mean the CRSF output port? It definitely puts out the channel data out that port. Source: I wrote it. No soldering to the receiver necessary, just use the supplied cable and hook it to a flight controller like a regular receiver. The PWM outputs can be remapped to any input channel too so you can like do a pan/tilt camera setup and stull run the quad like normal.

Yes, you can output serial and PWM simultaneously on ELRS. I haven't done it on new RM stuff yet, but for PWM: Set Pin 2 to Serial, pick SBUS (3.3+) or CRSF, and PWM pins retain output. No configuration necessary for those.
I tried changing the output pins in the ER8 and ER8GV, but they don't support setting their output pins to Serial. It appears you can only use the CRSF port for serial output (which is fine by me) @@RCVideoReviews

Hi Rc Video Review. The Er4 is it suitable for nitro planes? Let say all I need 4 ch. What size Er4 can be used on. Let say it's 4ch gaser? Any limitation for Los? Ty
Radiomaster produces the hardware. The ELRS team produces the software. SBUS is available in 3.3.0-RC-1. As of the release of these receivers, 3.3.0-RC-1 wasn't available. So they will support SBUS if you upgrade the firmware. Keep in mind as of today, 3.3 is in Release Candidate stage. It should be final soon.
Had my 6GV in a F3K model for a week now but haven’t managed to get the vario working. No vspd in telemetry. All other telemetry is working. Any ideas?
On discover sensors if it doesn't show up, and you have current firmware on it and the radio, the only thing I would do is reflash the RX with ELRS and do an erase before flash. If that doesn't produce vspd in the sensor list, I could contact Radiomaster for additional support.
@@RCVideoReviews Thanks. I upgraded to 3.3.0 on both TX and RX but still no vspd. The Alt also continually counts down. I will contact Radiomaster and see if they have any suggestions. Cheers.

Excellent work for RadioMaster. =^/,..,^= Now I know what ExpressLRS receivers to put in my helicopters. My T-Rex 500 ESP 3G would benefit greatly from the RadioMaster ER6. I can yeet his 14 year old Spektrum AR8000 receiver without needing to replace the flight controller (which is a BeastX Micro Beast Plus, by the way).
Good enough to give this a try. Definitely going to miss per cell voltage.... Hopefully that comes along soon for EDF, helis, etc. RM seriously needs to consider a NA warehouse and support staff to take it to the next level. ~$5-11 per item to ship from CN starts to erode at the value prop.
They do have a robust retail channel and I'm told the US retailers that ordered them are free to post them at will. I used to worry about per cell voltage, but I keep only good condition batteries in flight and TBH, with good condition batteries, it's never been an issue. And I log/review my data too, so I'm not whistling dixie here.
I hope they will release a Lipo Cells voltage sensor to connect to the UART port. To have in the telemetry the voltage of each cells and to have the possibility to set the low battery voltage alarm on the lowest cells voltage instead of the total lipo battery pack voltage. I know you can do it Radiomaster ;-) And also receivers with gyro please !
I've asked for integrated gyros too. I've been flying with vbat for some time with every kind of plane. As long as your batteries are healthy--no big discrepancies in cell to cell IR, overvall vbat is quite effective and accurate. Cell voltage is nice, but vbat is effective in a practical sense. I literally have it on almost everything I own--including 85" Extreme Flight 3D planes and my 90mm F-22 Ultra. The planes that don't have it yet will be getting it.
I've never tested so I can't say. I know on the ELRS leaderboard, they're flying 2.4ghz 31Km at 50hz and 50mw. 50mw is the bottom end of the radiated power level which some TXs can drive up to 2w. So....

Please pass this on to Radiomaster, They're too expensive. The 8ch receivers are 34.99, vario version is $40. I can make my own 10 or 16ch pwm with vbat (and possibly even current) sense from HM or Matek elrs receivers for around $20-25. If these 8ch receivers (at least the one without vario) were priced a little more competitively at around $20-25, I'd be likely to buy some. At this price I will not buy any, I doubt a lot of others will either. Any receiver over $30 is just too expensive. That is why I stopped buying and using FrSky 8ch sbus receivers. At first when they came out, they were in the mid $20 price range, but slowly they snuck up the price, and I stopped buying them. So please let Radiomaster know they priced these out of reach. I like their products, but the whole point was that everything they make is open-source and I bought their products because they were inexpensive and fairly priced in the past. These are not priced fairly, in my opinion, and are not competitive. Thank you for the review, it is great and informative like always!!
The built in VBAT Telemetry kinda piqued my interest over CrossFire which I'm currently using, and which doesn't have that functionality by itself ( I'm using various Matek Adapter Boards for that ). *_BUT_* that CH5 Arming situation could require some explanation... I only drive RC Tanks ( th-cam.com/video/l3_RcOU3zo0/w-d-xo.html / th-cam.com/video/VNP6Dstz6wc/w-d-xo.html ) three of which require at least eight Channels to operate to access all functions with two of them requiring PWM Outputs - So all eight PWM Connectors. Now... As you may guess Arming isn't exactly a thing for RC Tanks ( at least I'm not aware of it being a thing for models of the size I'm frequenting ) so having it block even just one of the eight required PWM Pins is kinda an instant NoGo for me which brings me to the question if Arming can be mapped to a Non existing/physical "virtual" ninth Pin thus freeing up all eight PWM Connections?
I just got my er6-GV setup today fully expecting to find a "VSpd" sensor on the telemetry screen, but there is not. There is only an altitude readout, no vertical speed readout.

Not only that, I've been watching ELRS telemetry very closely for a few weeks, and the RF link latches on like a pit bull with lock jaw. Even single antenna designs produce ridiculously good RF outcomes. I'm talking RQLY at 333hz of 95%+ and 25mw of dynamic power. Let that sink in and you should be saying, "Holy s$!T!" That means 316 understood packets *per second* at a measly 25mw of transmit power with headroom to 1000mw. It's just insane.

A small question , for a trainer 5 channel , should i get a ER6 or ER6GV?
Gv if you want altimeter and vario. Otherwise ER6 is fine.
Thank you so much and God bless you
if you have an ExpressLRS transmitter and receiver you have many miles of range, but how do you get many miles of video transmission. Or is the video transmission through the ExpressLRS system?
thank you for your nice work, have a good day
You are about to take a red pill....
Antenna trackers, directional antennas, 1.3ghz usually are good combos for video range.
I just got these in the mail about a month ago. In the video you demonstrated how to get RxBt through the vbat wire, but is it possible to to get RxBt through a BEC?
Sure--it'll be 5v all the time though.
@@RCVideoReviews yea thats what I'm dreading, I think I have to solder this into the main battery leads.
I usually put a single pin (breadboard jumper wire) between vbat pads on the RX and the positive lead on the balance plug.
Great video, thanks. Do you know if they implement this feature by the latest firmware 3.3.1?
Which feature?
@@RCVideoReviews sorry, the Sbus feature, but I just figured it out it’s there and works great, just starting out with ExpressLRS so this stuff is all new to me. thanks
I’m losing my mind, I just realized this was the wrong video I commented on. I meant to comment on your express LRS with S bus to ppm conversion. Sorry, my bad, but great video anyway.
question: how do you couple two receivers for a dual setup ?
For what? The link is extremely reliable.
@@malte9999 there is nothing extremely reliable. of course if I were to use them on cheap foam planes for LOS this is not an issue
Hi John. I have quick question. Does vario send me feed back how high I am?
There are actually two sensors: Altimeter and Variometer. Altimeter is height, vario is rate of change +/-.
@@RCVideoReviews ty so much
Hi Rc Video Review. The Er4 is it suitable for nitro planes? Let say all I need 4 ch. What size Er4 can be used on. Let say it's 4ch gaser? Any limitation for Los? Ty
I don't see why not. Zero limits for LOS. Almost every plane I have right now runs ELRS--LOS or otherwise.
@RCVideoReviews ok I'm worried because has one antenna. Ty
I'm not.
Hello need a bit of help i am using a pixhawk do you know if radiomaster make a expresslrs receiver with sbus?
Radiomaster produces the hardware. The ELRS team produces the software. SBUS is available in 3.3.0-RC-1. As of the release of these receivers, 3.3.0-RC-1 wasn't available. So they will support SBUS if you upgrade the firmware. Keep in mind as of today, 3.3 is in Release Candidate stage. It should be final soon.
@@RCVideoReviews many thanks the problem i have is finding a radiomaster expresslrs receiver with sbus
Flash 3.3.0rc-1, then you'll have sbus.
Cheers.
@@warrencheetham9672 In the same boat here. Everything is up to date, but i'm not seeing any Vspd...
Just heard back from Radiomaster. Turns out it's an EdgeTX thing. Need to be on v2.8.4 or later to get the VSpd sensor to show up.
@@malinhiles I'm using OpenTX on a Jumper t-lite v2. ELRS via the external TX Module AION NANO upgraded to 3.3.0 ELRS firmware. In other DLG's I've been using MATEK ELRS-R24-V R24V and the varios work fine.
Wonder if the ER6 can be de-cased. The case is too thick for my situation but the bare receiver should be OK.
Of course it can. If it can be put in a case, it can be taken out of one. If you don't want the case, you may want to check out EPW6.
@@RCVideoReviews Thanks John, tossing my Jumper T16 and going with a Boxer + Express LRS in an old school Simplecopter mini-T. Was going with the Matek R24-P6 when this video dropped.😀
Might finally have to convert my entire fleet to ELRS!
I'm just now wrapping up that process. Not looking back.
auto launch? gyro?
can these be used for helicopters with flight controllers ?
using provided SBUS cable ?
Yes, s.bus is s.bus. Be aware, s.bus is unidirectional though, so you won't get telemetry beyond what the Rx provides.
@@RCVideoReviews so...
only ER6, ER8, ER8G and ER8GV have SBUS out function?
only they come with SBUS cable.
SBUS is a firmware option. RX independent. If there is no UART it's provided by PIN2 for PWM or TX for serial only RXs.
@@RCVideoReviews if I want to have SBUS, vario (altitude ?) telemetry, and lipo voltage telemetry,
is ER8GV pretty much the only option ?
@davidjacobs8558 I don’t know if it’s the only option but it’s a good one.
Game changer!
Agreed.
Any idea when they will be out of pre order?
Some people on discord have reported shipment notifications.
Excellent work for RadioMaster. =^/,..,^=
Now I know what ExpressLRS receivers to put in my helicopters.
My T-Rex 500 ESP 3G would benefit greatly from the RadioMaster ER6. I can yeet his 14 year old Spektrum AR8000 receiver without needing to replace the flight controller (which is a BeastX Micro Beast Plus, by the way).
I agree--this is a great infusion of energy into the ELRS product space. Just awesome.
@@RCVideoReviews I love the fact that they are _very_ affordable too.
Agreed. Very reasonable.
Great stuff. now setup gyros with the new rx
Wait for it...
Do they support sbus? Say you wanted to run a small one with a hobby eagle gyro.
Yup. When 3.3 final is released it will have SBUS as a serial output option.
Suport For RC Plane Gasoline?
they didnt have a typo for the weight, you forgot to add the pins to it and all the other extra stuff
The one with the typo was a 5g difference. Radiomaster already acknowledged the mistake. Had nothing to do with the pins/wires.
thanks, but missing the main parameter - the relative range
Relative to what? Search for elrs leaderboard. Range is not a factor with elrs.
Are all these Rx waterproof ?
No mention of it in the specs.
@@RCVideoReviews Yes you are right. Vbat is better than nothing. I use it on all my models.
Max range for the ER4?????
I've never tested so I can't say. I know on the ELRS leaderboard, they're flying 2.4ghz 31Km at 50hz and 50mw. 50mw is the bottom end of the radiated power level which some TXs can drive up to 2w. So....
Can i get elrs on my 4in1 tx16?

Please pass this on to Radiomaster,
They're too expensive.
Expensive? Well, if you can make it better and cheaper. More power to you
This is what i was waiting for. RM and ELRS just killed Frsky receivers.
Yes, you can free up all 8 pwm`s
I just got my er6-GV setup today fully expecting to find a "VSpd" sensor on the telemetry screen, but there is not. There is only an altitude readout, no vertical speed readout.
Not correct. It has vspd. I'm looking at it on mine right now.
@@RCVideoReviews Ahh, good to know. Saw some other folks with this issue, glad its not the case everywhere. I'll change my comment
@@RCVideoReviews Just heard back from radiomaster. Turns out it's an EdgeTX thing. Need to be on v2.8.4 or later.
Hmm, interesting. Did migrating to 2.8.4 work?
Good now I can fit my 3D plane with these and get rid of my futaba stuff.
Amen.
It would have been nice if you explained what Vario actually means since you mentioned it so many times.
Google is your friend.
@@RCVideoReviews Already tried that and got: Vario wristwatches and Vario helicopters. Is Vario short for something else? Not all of us are experts.
Sorry, I'm not here to spoon feed information. You don't have to be an expert to spend a little time researching.
awsome now if they can do this in the 900mh range is what i use
I haven't heard any rumbles about 900mhz. Just curious though--why are you on 900mhz?
You know shids fked up when the most expensive of these is cheaper than the cheapest Futaba.
Incredible prices makes me wish I had ELRS.
It doesn't cost much to change over - sell your Futaba while it still has value! :)
@@slammerf16 Oh I have FlySky PL18 now hehe. I'm satisfied with AFHDS3 recievers but if I want something that crazy cheap I need to downgrade to AFHDS2. But other ELRS modules are so cheap I might just grab one of those now.
I bought my Futaba T7C used from an acquaintance years ago and it turned out to be one of the early variants that cant bind to additional recievers. When I realized I was years outside of the "service" that Futaba offered to fix them.
YipEeee!
I know :)
I can't use any of them. 2.4ghz is completely useless for me.
Noise floor issues?
If only they didn't break the signal like R168.
These have nothing to do with the R168. Completely different tech and hardware. I'm told they've received some extensive testing during development by people outside of RM.
@@RCVideoReviews Thank you for your answer, I will definitely buy such a receiver.😄
I just got my ER6 and after binding with a bind phrase through wifi the led is solid purple not blue. What does the led color means? It’s not published in the manual.
I'm not sure either--not in the manual :) Good question for Radiomaster.
