    awww wish I had seen this b4 marking and quilting BY HAND! a super king brown quilt. It ended up being 115" square. Just got it on the bed and love it but oh boy did it seem to take forever. (4 months lol) I had a really difficult time finding something to mark with Ended up sharpening a piece of soap lol

    Thank you for posting this video! I had a long infatuation with the Frixon pens until they ruined a Christmas project. When I wen to "erase" the Frixon marks with the heat, the marks had somehow lifted the dye off the material. I had white streaks on a dark blue border. I only use them sparingly now and always do a test mark on a scrap piece first. I have since moved to the Fons and Porter chalk pencil. I find that gently rubbing a soft toothbrush over my lines erases them better then using the eraser. I think I was just too aggressive with the eraser. For the lighter fabrics I have been using the different colored triangle shaped tailor's chalk. I have not tried the water soluble pen yet. Again, thank you for your advise. I always look forward to your videos. :)

    Soak the quilt in the bathtub, Got It! I use a Lazer (love it!) & quilt from Dot to Dot (design permitting), minimizing marking my quilts... I also use the same type of marking fabric pens & pencils. Again thanks for the tub tip...

    I love the chalk pencil. I haven’t tried the blue pen, but I will. Thank you very much.

    I know there is great debate about the Frixion pens but I love them. My quilts are for my loved ones and me to use. If the marks come back (which, as we live in Texas and didn’t lose power this past February, isn’t much of a risk), I’ll just wash and dry it or iron it and they will disappear again. If I were quilting for shoes, yeah, I’d see the cause for concern. But for us to use? Not such a big deal for me.

    Thank you for this video. Now I am not planning on using Frixxon pens! If you sew over the marked lines, how can you use the eraser to remove the lines?

    • @LeahDay
      @LeahDay  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can erase over quilted stitches. Don’t grind the eraser into the fabric - just a light hand will work fine. I find the marks tend to fade as I handle my quilt so I rarely have to erase them. The fine line pen though as I said in the video must be erased by soaking the quilt in water.

    do you like the Frixon pens at all? if not why? thanks

    • @LeahDay
      @LeahDay  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I explain this in this video. Frixon pens do not wash or erase out. The chemical stays in the quilt and can reappear anytime. Having had a very special quilt ruined by marks that refused to wash out, I am very careful to only use pens that erase or wash out completely.

    Do the remaining marks disappear after you wash the quilt?

    • @LeahDay
      @LeahDay  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You'll want to erase the remaining marks with the eraser for the ceramic pencil. Soaking the quilt in water will fully remove the blue marks from the Fine Line Pen.

    Can I just put the quilt in the washer for the soaking?

    • @LeahDay
      @LeahDay  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure, that works too! Just make sure the water is lukewarm, not hot!

    Have you used the Fons and Porter pencil on light fabrics?

    • @LeahDay
      @LeahDay  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, and I found the darker lead didn't erase out to my satisfaction. So I only use the light ceramic on medium to dark fabrics, and only the fine line on light fabrics.

    • @LeahDay
      @LeahDay  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do lukewarm water. Not hot enough to heat set, but not frigidly cold.

    What do you do when the eraser wears down?

    • @LeahDay
      @LeahDay  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I find with the Ceramic pencil, I rarely have to use the eraser. If you do end up wearing it down, we can order you a refill kit!

    Great advice. Yepper, when you put heat on a pen and the ink disappears…it will come back in the cold. Ask me how I know…

    How to remove black marker from quilt topping? The marker is a quilt marker .

  • @connierogers6853
    @connierogers6853 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So let me get this clearly-you don’t recommend gel pens because they can come back in the cool or cold temps? I’ve been using them thinking that they were pretty much melting away. Clear this up for me, please.

    • @LeahDay
      @LeahDay  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep. The heat erase pens are not erasing - the chemical is still in your quilt and can reappear anytime the quilt gets cold.
