    When you open the bottle you should try to do it slowly. Point the regulator away from you and crack it open slow as possible. Thats a lot of pressure hitting the regular. Very unlikely the regular will fail but it has happened. Its one of the first things they teach in welding school. Love all your videos. They teach me so much i never thought i could actually give some helpful advice then i saw you turn on the CO2 and was like HERE IS MY CHANCE.

    • @FAKE-NAME
      @FAKE-NAME 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Random question... i was wondering since you've had experience with welding regulators if youve had any experience with random aquarium regulators and if so which ones are more accurate at the pressures an aquarium would see?

    You probably should have covered the washer that is a requirement for a good seal. You are using a threaded washer insert, which is a great option, but they don't usually come preinstalled on co2 cylinders. Usually you get a little nylon washer which you will need to place on the seal manually when attaching the regulator.

  • @PaulMartin61
    @PaulMartin61 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Some great information here!
    For the beginners out there... You mentioned the needle value adjusts the amount of bubbles per second, how does one count those bubbles ? How many 'bubbles' is enough? Do I need more bubbles for a larger tank than a smaller tank?
    I love my Co2 setup, can't imagine keeping plants with out one. (Of course, you don't NEED Co2 for most aquatic plants).

    • @AquariumCoop
      @AquariumCoop  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In general the larger the tank, the more bubbles per second, but fish load, filtration, amount of plants time light is on etc all play a part

  • @FAKE-NAME
    @FAKE-NAME 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Random info for those thinking about soda stream co2 for a source tr21.4 is the thread you need to adapt from to whatever thread the regulator has(cga320 & w21.8 are common). Another side note not mentioned is the stages in the regulator... they are to keep the pressure the same as the tank pressure lowers 3 Stage and dual stage regulators are very pricey in comparison to more basic regulators.
    Also note some "regulators" are nothing more than an on/off valve not an actual regulator(no gauges is a dead give away)

    Do you find an in-tank co2 diffuser versus an in-line diffuser works well in a large tank? I have a 78 gallon and find that an in-line diffuser works well with my canister filter to cover the whole tank in co2. Of course if you don’t use a canister filter then an in-tank diffuser may be only diffuser option. I’m glad to see you using the cheap plastic check valve for your co2 line. I was worried I’d need the metal high pressure ones for co2 rigid lines versus air lines. Thank you!

    I can clearly say that CO2 is very important. I have had a CO2 system in my aquarium in the living room for a few years now. The plants grow very well and there is almost no algae. In January, I set up a new tank for a betta and I wanted to go without CO2 here. Unfortunately, the plants are growing really poorly and I also have green algae, probably still from the settling-in phase. The Limnophila sessiliflora is growing a little, but unfortunately green algae forms relatively quickly on it. There is only a little algae on the Hygrophila polysperma, but it has hardly changed since the aquarium was started. I haven't had to cut it once yet. If I didn't cut this plant in my tank with CO2 for 8 weeks, it would probably have gone completely out of control by now and the fish would no longer be able to move around. 😂
    The other nutrients are sufficiently available in the new tank. Although the light is not that strong (Chihiros B 45), it should be enough for moderate growth. So it must be caused by the lack of CO2. I was already aware beforehand that it would make a clear difference, but I hadn't expected that even such simple plants, which are even labeled as being able to grow without CO2, would grow so poorly.
    Normally, green algae should disappear by itself at some point after the running-in phase. But I'm not sure whether they will actually go away at some point with such slow plant growth. 🤔

    Does the co2 bubbles need to be blowing around the tank or is it fine just going up the surface? What I did was put the diffuser directly infront of the outflow to spread the bubbles across the tank.
