"Whatever you now find weird, ugly, uncomfortable and nasty about a new medium will surely become its signature. CD distortion, the jitteriness of digital video, the crap sound of 8-bit - all of these will be cherished and emulated as soon as they can be avoided. It’s the sound of failure: so much modern art is the sound of things going out of control, of a medium pushing to its limits and breaking apart. The distorted guitar sound is the sound of something too loud for the medium supposed to carry it. The blues singer with the cracked voice is the sound of an emotional cry too powerful for the throat that releases it. The excitement of grainy film, of bleached-out black and white, is the excitement of witnessing events too momentous for the medium assigned to record them." - Brian Eno this is the quote you were looking for :) awesome video as always bro
That only works with medias that you only expectate. When you introduce interaction and mechanics to it the argument fall apart. Even more when you lock it to specific systems. And them you add the invested time too. Game design and game language changes way faster than movie or music. You only see nostalgia for its aesthetic and that's it.
@@MiloKuroshiro Not inherently true honestly, I really do miss a lot of those things even within gaming which is why I go back to the older games so much because more often than not they have the mechanics, design, visual style and sound that i've always enjoyed more since I was a kid.
@@MiloKuroshiro wtf are you talking about lol you see nostalgia for older gameplay styles all the time, look at the nostalgia present for fallout 1 style crpgs and the game design that era of rpgs featured, or retro shooters like dusk, or early 2000s style mech games like mechwarrior 5. game design and game language holds more nostalgia than aesthetic because of the speed that the industry moves at. look at the appeal of a game like STALKER for a perfect example of enos point, the ambition of that project shines thru the technology available. a game that plays like something old drums up significantly more nostalgia than a game that looks aesthetically old
During the sector 7 section it felt really lonely to be Cloud, when you get to the 7th heaven they don't let you go to the hideout and you're awkwardly walking around the bar until you find the darts so you can play on your own, then they come up to celebrate and they're like "Sorry cloud, avalanche only" so i went to talk to Tifa and even her told me to leave and i was like "oh, ok then, guess i'll leave..." Then you go to Jessie's house and everyone gets to eat pizza while Cloud waits outside looking at cats and sees how they all leave the black cat alone like "you too buddy?"
yeah i really appreciated that touch at his core, cloud just wants friends. that is why it was such a treat to see him get close with jessie , biggs, and wedge during their mission where he even laughs for the first time. by the end of the game the team are all his friends and it’s great
I kinda doubted getting the ff7r as I was afraid it wouldn't have much content (or much fun content at least) but this comparison convinced me to get it

@@RDV333 now that's an unpopular opinion... It seems everyone is loving the remake! Although my changing it to an action rpg I wouldn't enjoy it as much. But I still haven't played any of them
@@Tulase Give it time, right now it's getting quite a lot of hyperbolic treatment. It has severe pacing, level design and combat issues that are being ignored because people are in their honeymoon phase with the game. Good for them they're enjoying it, but I doubt this game will hold up to much further scrutiny of its core mechanics.
This ff7, to me, actually feels like what shenmue wanted to be: a game that gives you the sense of place, of getting to know it's locals and taking in the sights, the mood, all of that while a grandiose story is happening along. People that rush through it like they're game journalists or speedrunners will not have such a good time as the ones that stop for a moment and appreciate all the care and detail put into it.
Cam If it’s such a rushed disaster, then why is it already breaking all kinds of records and matching all-time best selling games like Spiderman and God of war? You are clueless.
@@worawatsr9803 I'm well aware it's breaking records but I cannot for the life of me I understand why. I agree that the combat is great and the main characters are very well done, and to be honest, I want to love it... but I really don't understand why people seem to not notice how much detail is lacking in the world compared to games like Witcher 3 or, hell, even Skyrim. I was looking forward to exploring a fully formed Midgar as much as anyone, but I'm just disappointed in the general experience of the remake. However, I do like the combat and gameplay systems. I just wish they had more time.
Oh boy, means in a year or two, when Tim Sweeney perfects this tech... Oh boy... Or whoever he hired to work on the unreal engine :/ *finds out the AI was made in blueprints* ... I swear if it was... This is why I'm an application developer and a no-name mobile indie developer
Either the AI fucked up bad for the German version, or they didn't bother to adjust the words. But hey, at least the German script stays closer to the Japanese original. It's a give and take, I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Robersora I think I have an answer to this weirdly enough. My understanding is the AI that was used in the game, from my research, for non-cinematic sequences. Dialog with NPCs, in-game dialog, and quick story sequences that don’t require a “budget”. The rest of the actual cutscenes (most story sequences) seem to use a combination of auto-lip syncing, but also performance capture and manual tweaking in the animation. And those sequences only seemed to have been properly synched to English and Japanese. It’s a similar situation to the localization of Judgement, one second characters are speaking fluent English with their lip-flaps in-synch, the next moment we’re in dub-city with a face that was clearly performance captured. I imagine a similar situation happened during development of FFVIIR to where you’ll have flavor sequences with characters that seem to be talking in fluent German, then bam, we’re back to dub-city. It’s a difficult predicament, auto-lip synching while good still needs manual adjustments. Timing is also another issue. Judgement for example had extra time and effort made to actually synch the timing of the dialog in English, outside the timing delivery in a line was originally given in Japanese. Sadly it seems watching FFVIIR in different languages online, the mouths may be synched correctly in English, but the delivery still feels trapped behind the timing of the original language. We’re getting close to a universal answer to all this nonsense, but sadly even with advanced AI capturing actors performances, were still dealing with how much of a development budget we need to use for said language.
To be clear, bravely default and persona 5 do very good for what they are. They still don't sell the numbers square wants for a mainline final fantasy.
@@jonet_h BF is as much of a spinoff as a Final Fantasy as Vagrant Story is, in other words, for a FF game it sells terrible, but as a spin off, it's great and tries different things that FF didn't wanted to try/revisit at the time

i dont think its a number "they want" as much as a number "they need". graphics are expensive, and there's no comparisson between the cost to make ff7 remake and persona 5. even is persona 5 is a great looker, it has more charm than good graphic. and unfortunatelly, in games, graphics sell.

@@Kiddo_williams Either you're blinded by nostalgia or you just have poor taste? Resident Evil 2 remake was actually what Resident Evil fans have been waiting for. It's scary, graphically beautiful, and vary immersive. Characters are realistic and act how they are suppose to, so don't be butt-hurt if Leon or Clair doesn't act like an anime character. Also, it's not considered a remake, but more of a "re-imagining" because almost every aspect of it is different than it's original counterpart but without alienating fans, so it doesn't have to be 100% faithful. Another thing, you mention poor B scenarios, what the hell are you talking about? The B scenarios are just like the original, different enemy spawns, new encounters, new weapons, and different endings. As a person who's played all the Resident Evil games, i can say that this is by far the best Resident Evil game, and if you don't think so then the entire gaming community will say otherwise.
So to summarize the remakes: Resident Evil 3 Remake: It tried but failed to surpass the original. @Corvo@AZ Buddy, if you didn’t know that it was going to be episodic by this point, that’s on you. They have been stating over and over again for years now that they were going to divide the remake into parts, with each part roughly the size of one game in the Final Fantasy XIII series. If you didn’t know, you either cut yourself off from the internet for years, you don’t know how to read, or you’re an idiot.
The way you talked, at first, made me think ‘oh boy, there’s some serious critique incoming’ but then you explained and compared directly and ohhhh boyy, did I love hearing all of what you said. I have the disadvantage of ‘being too young to play’ and ‘girls dont play games’ mentality (plus our country, at the time of ffvii release simply couldnt afford households to get their hands on games/consoles, so my brother’s desktop was a huge priviledge when it came to be), yet I had hardcore ff fans in my life whom I loved very much and got the story +/- retold. Yet, what the hardcore fans tell you, aside from the main plot (that probably makes no damn sense to you) are the tiny details. I heard Mainly about details that i, subsequently, forgot. Until I’ve played FFVIIR and OH BOY, was I over the moon. I remembered some! It was so weird since they’re not even my memories.. Even though I can’t claim to be extremely nostalgic, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the sense this brought into the franchise (or at least ffvii universe). The ending itself made me question the ability of scriptwriters to ‘not overly complicate it’ (since i think its still damn complicated at its core withiut great pacing) so it’ll get digested well... but gods, do I want to throw all the damn money at the designers/animators and other key workers that made it possible to create the three things I’ll always look for: universe immersion, working combat ... and now just to hope they dont ditch the ‘actions=definitive consequences’
So happy that you talk about the little details of FF7 Remake. While everyone is complaining about the ending, you are dropping some good ass information about the subtle details
When the games industry realizes remakes are a cash cow and starts spitting them out left and right with little to no effort, I'd just like everyone to keep in mind: You asked for this.
I think remakes need to be done with care and consideration. "Remaster" edition games, which are basic graphics updates, I'd argue are cheaper and quicker to make than a full remake.
I was asking for remakes like Resident Evil 1 Remake 2002 that not only matched the original but surpassed it. Ironic how that remake getting ported to PS4, Xbox One, and PC back in 2015 is what convinced Capcom to make more.
Yea but just because they do this doesnt automatically mean they are crap! FF7REMAKE was the better Final Fanatsy game that's been released recently... so if done properly I am all down for it.
With all the great stuff they did with ff7r, I can't help but feel like I'm the butt of a big joke after where that story goes. I totally bought into it being a faithful remake, recontexualized interpretation of the original. Was so excited to see how they'd update it. It's fun, nailed a lot of things like character personalities. I was reliving a piece of my childhood. Loving it. Then they pull the rug out from under me and laugh at me for having genuinely enjoyed the remade part of this "remake" at all.

no spoilers but, it makes sense after you play WHY ff7 was cut the way it was. for one, midgar is such a unique place in the original game, it does feel like a completely diferent game once you leave that area, both in setting as well as story progression. as an aside, acording to someone who did a translation to ff7 remaster, aparently midgar text was around 45% of the entire translation.
@@marcosdheleno Trust Square Enix to do it quite well and also to finish the story. Not so much if EA, Activision etc did it. Or just developers who simply can't afford doing the next game because it wasn't as successful as they expected.
I hold no nostalgia for FF7 and RE3, so it was funny to read "games that aged poorly". Recently played both of the originals and i'm playing through FF7RE (finished RE3 remake already), and honestly?... while technically inferior, the originals are a lot better, story and pacing wise. I guess i'll never understand why companies keep on remaking games while making huge changes to them that diminish what made them great in the first place (yeah, it's because of money obviously).
I think FF7 remake fleshes out the characters more. The part when Cloud, Jessi, Biggs and Wedge parachuting, was excellent. Aerith climbing that ladder and it breaks on her, saying shit, chuckled. Then the banter between Cloud and Barret, you can see over time they become more friendly. Reminds me and a buddy, we worked together and over time started to banter back and forth.
So, I actually got both original and remake for FF7 explicitly just to compare how they are. They went for a much slower pace with FF7 Remake, compared to the original. It helps flesh out the world and side characters, as Jessie, Biggs and Wedge didn't get much to do in the original. The battle system for original 7 may be too slow for people, so I do appreciate the efforts to blend the old style and new style of combat. Honestly, the hype for a FF7 remake has been around far longer than any other game that has been remade, imo. So maybe it's just bias when I say the product is a worthy remake.
@@jacobtaylor7506 I won't argue that it's a well done remake but it's just a part of the story, if it's worth it or not is only gonna be known when all the chapters are out. @@jacobtaylor7506 Got the answers mixed up and replied to another comment, lol, but in a nutshell: yeah, they flesh out the characters more, but there's also tons of padding that kill the pacing quite a bit. Also, while it's nice to those characters interact, some of the banter is so by-the-numbers-jrpg-wink dialogue that it got a bit tiresome for me after a while (and i do like the remake, i can only imagine how it is for people that didn't like it). I do intend to play the other parts as well, but at this point i really don't see it as a remake (specially if you consider the ending), it's a nice piece that goes along with the original... but so far i still like the original more.
Calling OG FFVII's combat slow strikes me as really strange. FFVII has one of the fastest command based combat systems in the series, and indeed in the genre generally. Go to the menu, set the battle speed to max, and full active, and the average charge time of the ATB is roughly 2.5 seconds, meaning when your have 3 characters, you'll literally always have a menu open. Battle transitions are swift, and loading times the shortest of the psx FF games. I can understand simply not liking command based combat, but the idea that FFVII plays slow is such a weird sentiment. Like, what games are you even comparing it to? The greater irony here is that since the ATB/commands are also in the remake, and filling the ATB is pretty much required to take down enemies and is done by spamming regular attacks, most encounters in the remake take longer than their original counterparts. Again, if you prefer it simply because it requires more input or feels more visceral that's fine? But slow? Nah.
Both reimaginings send a different message from one thing. FF7 gave the message that it is just another interpretation of the story because the OG can be played legally on the same system as the remake. RE3make gives the message that it is meant to replace it because you can't play the OG on the same system. Even though some gamers would usually say play both versions. They are different enough. I'm basically saying that Capcom should have had the original be playable on the same systems as the Remakes. Either it be a bonus in the reimagining or sold seperatly. I'm more interested in playing the original then the reimagining, and I grew up with the OG xbox and not the ps1. With the only game with fixed camera angles I've played was an hour of Onimusha
I enjoy the Resident Evil 3 remake but it can be a whole lot better. I remember hearing a rumor back during the early days of the Resident Evil 2 remake development that they were going to develop the story of Resident Evil 3 as DLC for that game. That had me worried because Resident Evil 3 is my favorite game in the series and I thought it deserved it's own time in the spotlight. But after playing it I do have to say that it feels like DLC for Resident Evil 2. Good DLC but DLC nonetheless. The major problems with the Resident Evil 3 remake are pacing and structure. The first hour of the original Resident Evil 3 is covered in the first 5 minutes of the remake. And the exploration the series is known for at least in its early days is severely cut down. The original Resident Evil 3 took the structure of the first two games and broke it down into bite-size chunks. Instead of one or two large areas to explore you had a bunch of slightly smaller interconnected areas to explore. You travel to each area of the game which are apart of a large environment. When it's time to go to the Hospital from The Clock Tower you go to the hospital from The Clock Tower. In the Resident Evil 3 remake when it's time to go to the hospital a cutscene will just put you at the hospital. And that's not even mentioning the areas that were cut. I do enjoy the Resident Evil 3 remake but it's clear to me that the people who made the Resident Evil 2 remake really love and admire the original Resident Evil 2 and the people who made the Resident Evil 3 remake do not. Rest in peace Paul Haddad.

IMO according to the definition of a video game remake and of what they have been in the past and the present, FF7R is not a remake but more of a sequel/reimagine of the OG, changing themes and core elements while adding stuff that was never part of the plot like multiple timelines and reviving dead characters. RE remakes on the other hand are proper remakes.
Handling the FFVIIR in that way was likely the only way in which the plot elements of the expanded FFVII lore could be included, in some fashion. Instead of creating a full RPG sequel, in the form of an FFVII-2, everything was handled with spin-off sequels and prequels that each only covered a chunk of the world or plot, as opposed to what a hypothetical full RPG sequel could have covered. The main issue there is that the spin-offs, on the whole, covered far too many plot elements, and left nothing for a full RPG sequel to cover. Reimagining the OG FFVII in an expansive remake is a great way to get around this, since the expansive plot elements of sequels and prequels can be added in.
@@MrNobody47710 I think Ff7R integrade showed they could have left the main story intact while adding those expanded universe ideas in DLC as things that happend in the background of the original and we just never got to see them. As of now the only goal they seem to have is to have Zack alive and give him a more important role in the story, that may be linked with maybe Aerith also surviving in some way, fanfiction level stuff, but then again, they are the creators.
@@max1311 It seems like SE is basically using FFVIIR as a substitute for the full RPG sequel that they never created (i.e., the hypothetical "FFVII-2"), by incorporating plot elements that could have been used in an FFVII-2. SE probably cannot create a full RPG sequel without rendering the rest of the "Compilation" non-canon, since the games/movies/OVAs leave very little story for a full RPG sequel to cover. "Advent Children" covered Sephiroth returning, and "Dirge of Cerberus" covered Hojo/Shinra, while "Before Crisis" and "Crisis Core" expanded on the backstory. All of that could have been in a full RPG FFVII-2, but it was spread out in smaller spin-offs. FFVIIR is kind of a weird approach to create the sequel that SE was not able to originally create.
the title of the game is VERY misleading. it isnt "A REMAKE" or 'THE REMAKE". "remake" is just the subtitle. the game is remaking the world's history. i think they COULD have left the main story intact, but i DONT think they ever intended to in the first place. i dont think this game is JUST an excuse to piece together the compilation. I thik it's a VERY intentional diversion from the OG
"When writer and game designer Yuji Horii discovered Wizardry at the 1983 Apple Fest in San Francisco, the new title ignited his imagination and immediately influenced his future games. He first incorporated elements from Wizardry into the Nintendo Famicom version of Enix’s adventure game The Serial Murders at Port Pier (1985). As Koichi Nakamura reprogrammed the game, Horii added monster encounters and borrowed the Wizardry phrase “Monster surprised you!” Horii wanted to make a true Wizardry-like RPG for the Famicom, but he also worried that the millions of Japanese home console owners would find RPGs too complicated. Horii therefore made his Dragon Quest (1986) as straightforward an RPG as he could. Instead of giving players several character choices, Horii focused the game on developing one character in-depth from a fighter to a knight. The one character needs to recover a sacred artifact stolen by the evil Dragonlord. Along the way, the player’s character gains strength and experience by fighting back monsters and rescuing a princess. The combination of Dragon Quest’s gameplay, manga artist Akira Toriyama’s illustrations, composer Koichi Sugiyama’s original score, and Horii’s Shohen Jump magazine articles introducing Japanese players to RPGs, helped sell more than 2 million copies of the game and created a Japanese cultural phenomenon." I know you love your shitty forgotten JRPG's but Hydlide has nothing to do with the creation of Dragon Quest
wait, was it wizardry? i though it was ultima. or maybe it was Final Fantasy that took inspiration from ultima(which explains why ultima weapon is so important to the franchise).
RPG fans never had a problem with turn-based. Change was forced on the genre for no reason. FFX and 6th gen RPGs sold tons and got higher critical praise than modern FFs.
FF7 still exists and you can still play it. If you play the fan translation it's still really good. FF7R can exist too, i don't see a problem with that. In a perfect world we would have the choice between turn-based combat or the more actiony combat but that's asking a bit much when it's already probably the only good product Square has put out in 20 years.
And as far as getting better critical reception than modern final fantasies that's because the modern ones are just bad it had nothing to do with the combat being turn-based or not it was just because they were objectively bad games.
Limitations spawn creativity. And the system was far more powerful than a PSX. Hardware limitations are never a valid excuse for just retreading ground.
I always like a mod for these old games that makes bold systemic change. FF7 mod that doubles enemy HP/attack power and halves encounter rate for example. The FFT Metroid Composite mod also keeps vanilla flav but makes everything useful in a cool way.
i wouldnt put past square to re release crisis core, who knows, maybe we may even get a "kingdom hearts chain of memories" situation. with that ending in the remake and most people having no idea what it means, at the very least they must be looking for a remaster of CC.

@@Rihcterwilker I'm one of those people. I have no intention of paying so that I could watch Namura turn FFVII into KH4. Don't get me wrong, it looks gorgeous and the combat looks insane, but the dance scene and the things I've heard about the ending are enough to put me off. The way I look at it, if I know I'm going to hate some elements of it, why not wait till it's all out and get angry at it then? I'll even save myself some money by not paying 60$ for 25% of a game.
PhenPhall i understand and respect your complaints but saying $60 for 25% of a game is a little ridiculous. It’s still a full game in in of itself, just not the full story. By that logic you can say Any game without a sequel isn’t a full game. Aside from that tho, the game is fantastic and everything they’ve remade from the original is great. The dance scene is really great as well and the characters are spot on but if you’re put off by the time ghosts I can’t blame you at all. I just wanted a remake of OG ff7 but I’m not mad at what we got. We’ll just have to see where they go from here.
I mean, have you seen the ending? Haha I don't think anyone wanted a sloppy meta narrative on pushing a reboot for these characters and they're story, it almost feels deceptive to a point. Without going into huge detail, nearly the rest of the game is fantastic but that ending, oof.
@@juda210 To me, and this is a personal opinion, there is a difference between a game that has an ending to it's story, but also a sequel (like Bayonetta or Bioshock) and telling half a story from the start. I'm really not a fan of that for two reasons - One is that I personally get de-vested. I lose interest if I have to wait so long for an ending and then I might as well wait till it's all out. Second is that I don't trust Nomura and modern Square-Enix to tell the story to it's completion. I think they will milk it for all they can while the sales are good with endless small increments, then wait a few years before ending the saga when people forgot the less-than-good games. Why do I think that? Because that's what they did with Kingdom Hearts.
I get your perspective and you showed quite well the thinking behind many of the changes, however at this point it's really not FF7 anymore. It's a new game with art direction inspired by that classic game, because stretching Midgar to a full game and inserting all the fate ghosts just so you can develop whatever you want in the future mean it has stopped being FF7.
It wasn’t supposed to be. What fans anticipated was the exact same story just with better graphics. But what was delivered is an addition to the FF7 compilation. The “Remake” in the title is more of a mindfuck. It’s not a remake of the game, but Seph’s attempt to remake destiny.
its not ff7. its ff7:remake. this game is just as much ff7 as crisiscore is ff7. its not a remake of ff7. its a whole new game: a diversion of the plot. the characters broke destiny
the FF7 extended universe is one of the worst I have ever seen, I have no idea how someone can be okay with Nomura being given freedom to do what he wants with the story.

Nemesis in that one is an awesome organic Terminator. I also preferred the UBCS soldiers in that one too. They had their own uniforms and insignia. Even Operation Raccoon City and to a lesser extent Resident Evil Apocalypse got this right.
I agree. RE3's oppressive atmosphere and intense moment to moment gameplay are still the most tonally consistent in the franchise. Maybe on the same level of RE7. I also liked the tight gameplay and routing options during each phase of the narrative and never found it confusing (you always see the thing you're getting things for, and you always have an idea of where the things are).
I have to say, with how you talked about this game (FF7R) it got me to buy and play the game before I saw this video. It's been a bit now since I've beaten it, and I'm happy I did! I am glad to be able to watch this video now and enjoy it since I've played a lot of this game. It's officially gotten me into the series too, since playing this led me to playing Final Fantasy 14. Thank you ThorHighHeels, you've encouraged me to get into something I never thought I could and expanded my view on video games.
Great video, I felt it might have lost some of the subtleties like you said, but you really convinced me to kinda approach it as a new take on the game. I recently replayed the original and the writing and foreshadowing is pretty good, and the ignorance of the terrorism is part of the subtlety that makes the player question it even if the main cast doesnt say anything. Living in a third world country, people saying "rich people" deserve a certain thing can be common while youre with an uneducated cab driver, and that's life I guess. When people feel they're treated unfairly, that thinking in a way is understandable, though not commendable. Anyway, different approach, except for Sephiroth appearing more often makes him less menacing I feel. Great vid! :D
I absolutely died when you brought back the "MOM JUICE" joke from previous FF7 videos. I was more excited over that than I was over a character return in a game lol.
All the games I played in 2020 are remakes of old games. Doom Eternal is a remake of Doom 2 ('93) Resident Evil 3 is a remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis ('99) Final Fantasy VII Remake is a remake of Final Fantasy VII ('97) Trials of Mana is a remake of Seiken Denetsu 3 ('95)
32:00 'uncanny poofy doo-doo' hahaha, your way of story-telling is simply unrivaled in my eyes. so thorougly entertaining that one hour feels like 10 minutes. Huzzah Thor, by far one of my favourite TH-cam-ers ❤
I should've finished the game before watching this video, but from playing the beginning and what you mentioned about the ending, I feel like my theories from months ago might be true. I think these remakes are gonna go down the Evangelion rebuild route, by the final game it's gonna be a completely different ending and story. Lol I can see as Sephiroth is about to kill Aerith Cloud says "Not this time" and stops him and our whole world literally explodes and the time starts over again, it's 1995 I'm being birthed forced to relive my life again.
So far, this destiny thing can just be a side thing, showing a little here and there of a "what if" scenario. The problem is Nomura and his need to overcomplicate what is good enough as it is.
@@Rihcterwilker the 1 definitive (and possibly only) problem with the narrative of part 1 are the fans of the original who are too blinded by nostalgia to accept that the story could be different give it about half a year or maybe a full one and peoples heads will slowly come out of their asses and realise "wait that was actually brilliant and I was too blinded by my idiocy to accept it"
FFVII Remake is too different from the original FFVII. If you're just wishing to revisit the FFVII universe but don't expect anything in particular, it will likely be entertaining enough. However, if you expect this to be a true remake of the original game, there is a high risk of disappointment. The game has a lot of weird decisions that didn't sit well with me. Differences with the original that felt off and the game ought to have just been the original story with improved graphics. Check a playthrough and you'll see what I mean. This is not a remake, this feels more like a reimagining.
Saying a game aged poorly because of its graphics is like saying Shakespeare aged poorly because it has archaic language, or a film aged poorly because it doesn’t have sound.
i agree, the beauty of JRPGs is that, specially ff games, the mechanics will not lose its luster no matter when you play them. graphics are, unfortunatelly, something they can only fix to a point. and ff7 unfortunatelly dont have as much space to grow as the games after.
Just install the fan mod that upscales the background and pre-rendered textures to HD. Suddenly, the old jank is new again and you have a game with better gameplay, tone and artstyle than the remake.
I'll take a indie budget FF7 remake. Make it like Resident Evil 0 with better CG backgrounds for 1080p at the least, and updated 3d models. No voice acting, full story.
@@kei7540 I've been looking at the mods, they are kinda mixed and jarring. One moment it's ultra detailed odd looking Party and a Enemy + non modded enemies and low quality but more polygons Jessie helping out. Then you go back to the world and it's similar to the more polygons Jessie for Cloud (not the ultra detailed), and then a CG cutscene happens and it's the old chibi cloud. I'll use the mods if I get the urge to do it and there's still no word of a upgrade for this old game though. I just finished a FF12 TZA session with a difficulty mod, that game always pull me back in. I'd take a FF7 that looked as good as that.
I feel that the whole 'game aged poorly' is little more than marketing hyperbole. One peddled by publishers, media covering it and, more perplexing, a majority of the folk who consume it. My perspective is, if a dude today can't get on with a game from before, make a them a new game that caters to their modern needs and let them have a similar formative experience as us dudes who had that original game. Why so many want the past recreated? We all lose our shit when our fave movies get cynically remade. Not games, How weird that of all entertainment mediums, none despise its history more than video games.
99% of the time when you hear "Aged poorly" in regards to video games it's code for "I don't fuck with old graphics". That's it. They try and dress it up and coach it in academic think piece verbage but that's just to cover how shallow so many people are. You have people who won't watch old movies because black and white, won't watch foreign movies because subtitles, won't even read books full stop, so when you have an entire generation of people whose video game tastes only started developing post-PS1 it's no surprise that they won't have the tolerance for low fidelity anything because they have never had to in the first place. Games like FF7, RE3, and others haven't aged poorly at all; anyone whose actually played the games can tell you that. That whole term only applies to things like human beings and houses and shit that will actually begin to decay and fall apart as it gets older if not properly maintained. A piece of software can't age, it's exactly what it was the day it was made. All that has changed is people's assumptions about what a video game "should be".
I can relate though. I can't play Atari 2600 games, they look like shit and aren't fun for me 99% of the time. To me they have aged poorly. I can definitely see someone who is 15 or 20 years younger than me being turned off by these older games. The ps1/n64 era in particular is very hard to get into if you weren't around when it was new shit.n IMO first gen 3d console games are harder to enjoy than SNES/GEN era 2d stuff, because 2d was at it's pinnacle at that time. Meanwhile they were still figuring out how to make different genres work in 3d, and it shows, especially in the controls and camera. They are a lot less forgiving and user friendly compared to modern stuff. It doesn't help that most of the graphics are... not as good as I remember them. A lot of imagination is needed to fill in the blanks where the visuals are concerned, whereas with today's games you don't need to do that. I think it is completely possible for games to age poorly, but it's more a matter of perspective.
@@jokerzwild00 That's certainly interesting. I've always wondered if Atari era stuff can be classified as games, cause I saw them more as toys. Perspective as you say. Still, my point remains; wouldn't all this effort be better served going into a Final Fantasy 16? Who's to say that couldn't be this generation's FF7? What they've done now, from what I gleam from the video, is done a Star Trek 09 to their biggest game. No scrap that, it's more like Terminator Genysis. Something familiar cynically changed to try and keep it going indefinitely and milk it to the point where the original work is undermined. Anyone's welcome to call me a snob or whatever, but the world has enough cynicism in it. Still, I can't get too worked up about this shit. There are far worse things in the world going on right now.
during the boss with the fate boys, each character gets a glimpse into their futures (i guess?) and cloud saw aerith's death a lot. i'm also unsure of what they're doing by showing what would have happened if zack had survived. it feels like they're trying to set up aerith and zack's deaths being undone but i kinda feel like that shouldn't happen! not from a fan purist standpoint, but because those characters' deaths have such ripple effects on the story, aerith's especially. when a character has a goal they're striving for, ending their lives before they reach those goals makes it more impactful.
I totally agree the original games are better than the remakes and they need to calm this shit down for sure. I would prefer to play the original more so than the remakes or RE any day.
RE1 Remake 2002 is the best one because the original creator and team worked on it and made the game better than RE1 1996 in every way. RE2 Remake was good, but they already started getting lazy and cutting/changing stuff from the 1998 RE2. RE3 Remake feels like a complete reboot or even new game. Wasn't even made by the same team who did RE2 Remake and the dip in quality speaks for itself. Who knows what their gonna do to RE4 now...
I think FF7R is the MGS2 of Final Fantasy atm. The rest of the remake series will only kingdom hearts-ify it, and the subversion of what people EXPECT will blow minds. I for one am very excited to see what the team can cook up for the next part in the series. This is the kind of game that deserves the meta-commentary on the story and the legacy the original left behind, much in the way MGS2 does.
if you want to see just how amazing FF7's prerenders can look look up the Remako mod (unfortunate name yes) which uses AI to upscale all of the backgrounds and FMVs. The next time I replay FF7 I'm definitely gonna try it out.
46:42 I've played the original ffvii about 5 times end to end, and I STILL have to look up the story on a wiki. vii marks the point of no return for 'simultaneously dead but also not dead,' fake memories, multiple dimensions, reincarnation etc shit that every ff game had since. ffviii, x, xiii and kingdom hearts in particular were like hold my fucking beer fam.
Whilst I (and many others) agree that the stories of VIII, X, XIII, and KH have cluster fuck stories, you're the first person I've ever come across that found FFVII hard to follow. There's a fair bit going on, both plot-wise and thematically, but the story is paced in such a way that it never felt convoluted. But that's just me, and everyone else I've come across. Shame it didn't click with you in the same way.
I feel that when people look back on the game, they tend to really just remember the important character bits and gloss over how convoluted the build up to Sephiroth got during the second and third disc.
@@chrisossu2070 Can't really agree. I got into FFVII only a couple of years ago, + some replays here and there, so it's pretty fresh in my memory. I've also talked to a good number of people who've beat it very recently (As in, a couple of days ago.) and they had no issue following along either. I know a couple of people who've played it since 1997 as well, and they vividly recognized every plot point as they were watching the new players.
Its weird that everyone wanted a remake of RE2. I can think of Capcom games that have aged way worse than the original RE2. Like, has anyone PLAYED Mega Man Legends recently? If you want to play it with controls that don't totally suck, you have to settle for the N64 version, and miss out on the plot entirely.
I felt like 95% of the citizens looking like they were wearing clothes from Newsies or Target. It was so weird seeing only the quest characters in any kind of real fashion I would expect from a Final Fantasy Universe. Half the citizens could've been models from Just cause or Tomb raider, they just felt weird in a somewhat "Fantasy" setting. The Shinra building as well with all the office chairs, looking like Office Depot or Walmart versions I could buy now, as well as sharpie markers, white boards and tons of other examples. Barret is just Mr. T with a soft heart now. I get that ppl love him but its just so over the top most of the time, like Roche and Johnny. They could've made him more realistic but he's more cartoonish than in the original. The new music is great, but where the OG made music for each specific zone and had a tone and feeling, now it just seems like they're all just punched up versions which are snappier or completely weird for some of the Jazz replacements. The song isnt great for the area, it's great because its a good riff on the previous version. I dont like open-world games and the quest-like nature of the game really threw me off. Also I dont like that Sepiroth is an all powerful god-like character now who can summon dimensions. Why does he even need Meteor now, when he can just do it himself it seems.
there is a diference between a remaster and a remake, a remaster is taking something and making it the best it could be with today's knowledge. a remake is taking it, and rebuilding it to fit in today's gaming design.
Good thing you uploaded this an hour after I went to bed, so when u inevitable woke up in the middle of the night I'd have something to wake me up again
Y’know. I really want to buy this game and like it...but I just can’t. I wish they had made FFXVI instead of it. FFVII looks like a good remake, but it’s just that, good. When I play the original FFVII, I don’t have a moment where I say “I think that’s good” I have a whole lot of moments that make me say “holy shit.” The best parts of FFVII weren’t in Midgar, Midgar was just meant to put the characters together and get them into the main dish. Here, they expanded it into a whole game, and they announced it like 5 years ago. I resent it because after 5 years, they could’ve made a new FF game to try to craft a new legacy for a series that people have viewed as going downhill. When people say “I love Final Fantasy” and you say “what’s your favorite one?” No one is going to say FFXIII’s trilogy or XV. Some might say XIV if they got sucked into the mmo world, but most people probably said “eh” since it was an MMO. XII is never remembered for its story, it’s remembered because you could program how the game played itself with the gambit system. XI is a defunct online game. The last time that they made a great Final Fantasy game for the mainstream was X and X-2. Why doesn’t square see fit to get a new generation to love the series? As a 20 year old, all the FF games that I get told to play are either almost as old as me or older. I’d just like 1 chance to get a piece of the pie that everyone loves. Playing the original FFVII gave me that, but it made me say “what if they made something like this again.” And instead of making something like it, that called upon its best aspects...the handed it back to me and said “we want you to give us $180 this time,” because you know it’s going to be at least 3 parts. It’s shameless, and no matter how much heart and soul goes into it, it’ll never be anything more than an attempt to rewrite the history of a beloved icon in the industry. I trust that it’s a good game, I’ll probably pick it up on a sale sometime, since I kinda love Nomura’s storytelling style for being a beautiful mess. I just know that the effort that went into making this game could’ve been so much more and carved out a new legacy for a stagnate franchise. It’s existence angers me because they’re going to put the effort to make 2 more of these and that means it might be 10 more years until we get Final Fantasy XVI
First I want to address that a lot of the bullshit to do with the series comes from what the fanbase wants and doesn't like Final fantasy 12 was probably at least in my opinion the best game on the PS2 while most people consider it as shit without understanding anything about it. Another thing is ff11 is still going strong on pc and most people still consider 11 to be one of the best in the series. Not to mention 14 which is pure final fantasy bliss. But then again most people don't play MMOs so I'll let that slide. Now for the real point saying that none of the best parts of final fantasy 7 is in midgar is all well and good and I kind of agree with it to an extent but saying the remakes isn't good enough because its only midgar is like saying okay scrap the whole beginning of the story and just starting halfway because its "better here" Plus the team working on ff7r isnt the only team at square and there's many teams working on different games one of which could be ff16. Just because ff7r2 is in development doesnt mean nothing else can be
All these recent remakes are so lazily developed that, ironically, the ones that just up-res everything while keeping the core gameplay intact (Crash Twinsanity, New 'n' Tasty, Spyro Reignited, etc.) are the ones that are the most enjoyable to play.
You had me worried for a minute that you were gonna trash ff7 remake a lil bit but then you made me appreciate it even more than I already did and thats cool like you do not know. Also: "Tifa aka Childhood friend boobs" is a gem
@Corvo@AZ Agreed. I'm surprised Thor liked the aesthetic. So much of FF7R's added material does not fit the look of 7 whatsoever IMO. Same with the dreary-tech music. The whole 90's anime sci-fi look is bland-ified.
Just here to say Final Fantasy 7 did not age poorly thanks to it's unorthodox character style. It's a masterpiece for a reason and only time I wanted better graphics was as a child because I didn't understand and realize how great it was and the reason the style was chose. RE3 however needed a remake more because of the realistic character models and how face's would get sceewed
Nah, there will still be original shit, too. Remakes are just the hot thing everyone is talking about, but no matter how many are are made there will always be other options. It's kinda similar to music in how if you enjoy hard rock/metal and go find a video here on TH-cam and most likely someone has left a comment lamenting how good music no longer exists. Good music in said genre is still being made, it just isn't nearly as popular and will require looking just under the surface. But yeah, regardless people are gonna get sick of constant announcements of new remakes in the works. Imagine if next year we find out Red Dead 2 or other huge recent games are getting that treatment. 😂
I’ve been sharing your videos with friends a lot lately because I honestly can’t believe that you don’t have more subs. Love the content man, keep it up!
I am a person of a pathological principle - "good things are what they are, respect them". Original REmake by Mikami IS how good remakes are made - you take the game, you recreate it exactly as it was from ground-up AND THEN you add upon it. New enemies, new puzzles, new items, new weapons, new mechanics (like the defensive items), more rooms, more shortcuts, more bosses. Good remakes are exactly that - same games, but better. *THESE* remakes are not that. They are the essence of a word *"reimagining"* , as in games that take the original game as a basis for events, basic gameplay elements and music AND THEN they reimagine it as something completely different. In this particular case: "What if RE 3 wasn't a fixed-camera tank controlled survival horror, but a third-person shooter with survival horror elements ?" and "What if FFVII wasn't a turn-based japanese role-playing game, but a action game with role-playing elements." The main problem is that these reimaginings are incapable of doing that which only a true remake can do - completely replace the original due to the sheer quality upgrade. Noone is going to play the original Yakuza anymore if they have Yakuza Kiwami. Noone. It is just not worth it. Same goes for Ni No Kuni, MediEvil, Shadow of the Collosus or Oddworld. These games got their justice, received the essential upgrades that launched them back onto greatness, leaving the originals forever behind. You can't do the same if the game you are supposedly remaking is not even the same game.
Interestingly, the appeal of the Remake has increased for me now that they have decided to shift toward its own separate continuity precisely because it is now no longer vying to "replace" the original. I no longer have to worry that this new game will fuck up my favorite aspects of the original, it will be its own thing.
RE2 Remake 2019 already made cuts and changes that were questionable, like the A/B scenarios zapping, but the gameplay was great and it had extra content to unlock. RE3 Remake might as well be a new RE Revelations game. They cut and changed way too much from the original and left it feeling like a hollow cynical product. It feels rushed and made by a team who did not know or care to make a great RE game like RE2 Remake's team. You're better off buying FF7 Remake due to amount of single player focused content alone. RE3 Remake has extremely poor replay value given that they cut the branching paths, built in RNG system for items/enemies, entire areas from the original, and the Mercenaries bonus mode. Capcom is back to its old greedy and lazy habits.
Genome Soldat Exactly why I can’t seem to genuinely care about RE ever since Wesker died, pretty much. I can’t really care for games that don’t respect themselves.
I personally think the remake of ff7 is way too long for its own good and the combat system has the exact same flaw the original did (namely making thr gameplay worse so it looks great) but instead of just making it slow the whole system is now almost broken because of the horrible camera and the not well thought out abilities. Also whats with the constant slowing down of cloud to a crawl... anyway great video as allways
I had gripes with the battle system too because I swear I'm spending more time in battle than I was in the original. I also hate how you can't escape fights. They also took away all control from you, like being able to sneak into the Shinra building or go in head first through the front door and instead made you fight loads of enemies through the back door, which for some reason doesn't alert any of the security throughout the building, all because they wanted to pad out this sequence. It also doesn't give you the option to sneak past enemies, like when you're crossing a pipe over two sleeping enemies, and then the game puts you into the fight regardless because they make the pipe fall. Why give us the illusion of option and then take it away? I don't play RPG's for fighting, I play them for story which I'm not getting because I'm fighting 3/4 of the time. Don't even get me started on the Arbiters of Fate or that stupid Train Graveyard scene.
Bumble Grumble you do get a choice once you get into the Shinra building. You can either take the long way up the stairs or the elevator, you just start off in a fight. And the game gives a reason why the rest of security is not alerted and it’s thanks to the Mayor
@@charlestonobryant807 Yeah, you only get the choice once you've fought your way through. That's not the same. And the mayor wouldn't be able to intervene radio calls between security so it still doesn't make sense.
@@peachesandcream8753 if you look inside the mayors office you see a bunch of monitors with camera feeds which implies he at least has some control over shinra building security
Original FF7 as a whole still feels more Immerssive imo , still has way better pacing , better music ( they even messed this up ) more effective mature mood , more charming expression ( FF7R's US voice acting sounds horrible and the changed dialogue too ). No design method or graphical style Is ever old anyway , It's all just personal preference , the original did far more In It's time with the tech It had.
Tbh I thought they were going to tone down the ''class division'' aspect of Midgar because of the whole NO POLITIK IN ME VIDEOGAME!1 thing going on right now on the internet but I'm really glad they didn't. Now it's even clearer and more realistic.

Corvo@AZ you realize they are doing it in parts right
@Corvo@AZ Buddy, if you didn’t know that it was going to be episodic by this point, that’s on you. They have been stating over and over again for years now that they were going to divide the remake into parts, with each part roughly the size of one game in the Final Fantasy XIII series. If you didn’t know, you either cut yourself off from the internet for years, you don’t know how to read, or you’re an idiot.
Dude, I have no idea how I found your videos, but I have been binge watching them for days now. Please don't ever stop. You are much appreciated.

When the games industry realizes remakes are a cash cow and starts spitting them out left and right with little to no effort, I'd just like everyone to keep in mind:
You asked for this.
I think remakes need to be done with care and consideration. "Remaster" edition games, which are basic graphics updates, I'd argue are cheaper and quicker to make than a full remake.
@@nybxcrotona Yeah, remasters I don't have a problem with at all.
I was asking for remakes like Resident Evil 1 Remake 2002 that not only matched the original but surpassed it.
Ironic how that remake getting ported to PS4, Xbox One, and PC back in 2015 is what convinced Capcom to make more.
I didn't ask for this...
(I know it's a meme, but still, I love the originals)
Yea but just because they do this doesnt automatically mean they are crap! FF7REMAKE was the better Final Fanatsy game that's been released recently... so if done properly I am all down for it.
With all the great stuff they did with ff7r, I can't help but feel like I'm the butt of a big joke after where that story goes. I totally bought into it being a faithful remake, recontexualized interpretation of the original. Was so excited to see how they'd update it. It's fun, nailed a lot of things like character personalities. I was reliving a piece of my childhood. Loving it. Cutting up games into many parts will hopefully not become a trend.
Most of these gay trends such as paid dlc, auto health regen, long ass takedown sequence, and next one will be part trend that you need to buy $60 each for complete story.
Oh, it will.
no spoilers but, it makes sense after you play WHY ff7 was cut the way it was. for one, midgar is such a unique place in the original game, it does feel like a completely diferent game once you leave that area, both in setting as well as story progression.
as an aside, acording to someone who did a translation to ff7 remaster, aparently midgar text was around 45% of the entire translation.
@@marcosdheleno Trust Square Enix to do it quite well and also to finish the story.
Not so much if EA, Activision etc did it.
Or just developers who simply can't afford doing the next game because it wasn't as successful as they expected.
one of my greatest fears. even if some game allready did that via dlc
There's also the fact that if the ending is anything to go with it's not actually a remake, but that's another debate entirely, lol.

@@max1311
It seems like SE is basically using FFVIIR as a substitute for the full RPG sequel that they never created (i.e., the hypothetical "FFVII-2"), by incorporating plot elements that could have been used in an FFVII-2.
The combination of Dragon Quest’s gameplay, manga artist Akira Toriyama’s illustrations, composer Koichi Sugiyama’s original score, and Horii’s Shohen Jump magazine articles introducing Japanese players to RPGs, helped sell more than 2 million copies of the game and created a Japanese cultural phenomenon."
I know you love your shitty forgotten JRPG's but Hydlide has nothing to do with the creation of Dragon Quest
wait, was it wizardry? i though it was ultima. or maybe it was Final Fantasy that took inspiration from ultima(which explains why ultima weapon is so important to the franchise).
RPG fans never had a problem with turn-based. Change was forced on the genre for no reason. FFX and 6th gen RPGs sold tons and got higher critical praise than modern FFs.
I'm a fan of rpgs... but if every rpg was turn-based, I'd definitely play less of them. There's a difference between change and variety.
Don’t forget Persona 5. It made a lot of money in this age of fast paced action shooter games
Turn based sucks outside of shin Megami tensei ngl

Can't really fault Crisis Core for not expanding Midgar, it was a PSP game - limited in scope, specs, and load times.
Chapter 2 upper Midgar is such a great location. Too bad we only get to see it once. Hoped we'd be back for some side quests Crisis Core style.
i wouldnt put past square to re release crisis core, who knows, maybe we may even get a "kingdom hearts chain of memories" situation. with that ending in the remake and most people having no idea what it means, at the very least they must be looking for a remaster of CC.
@food wich same here. I feel it's a waste of time/resources to make such detailed environments for so little use.

@Nathan Thompson Um...yes?
Thank you ThorHighHeels, you've encouraged me to get into something I never thought I could and expanded my view on video games.
honestly i'm just thrilled at the prospect of this ff7 remake bringing about the bishie renaissance i've been awaiting for the past decade

Or maybe not.
But who knows.
@@Rihcterwilker the 1 definitive (and possibly only) problem with the narrative of part 1 are the fans of the original who are too blinded by nostalgia to accept that the story could be different give it about half a year or maybe a full one and peoples heads will slowly come out of their asses and realise "wait that was actually brilliant and I was too blinded by my idiocy to accept it"
I feel the same way about the changes. You don't change a loving master piece without pissing people off.
This is not a remake, this feels more like a reimagining.
thats why its called a remake and not a remaster
@@latviandragon2718 Resident Evil 2 is a remake too and is way more similar to the original than FFVII. I call this a Reimagine.

Really enjoyed your take on the changes in FF VIIR. Recently discovered your channel and I love your content!
It's mostly gameplay
It has aged poorly though. FF6 that came out on the Super Nintendo looks better than FF7.
I'll take a indie budget FF7 remake. Make it like Resident Evil 0 with better CG backgrounds for 1080p at the least, and updated 3d models. No voice acting, full story.
We got those on pc
Did you watch the whole vid? Thor loved FF7R and said that, in many ways, it was superior to the original.
Man, nobody gonna say anything about this people making girls so good looking? like how they do it?

if you want to see just how amazing FF7's prerenders can look look up the Remako mod (unfortunate name yes) which uses AI to upscale all of the backgrounds and FMVs.
I'm beat the game for the first time last year. Game wasn't that hard to follow tbh
VII marked the beggining of "jerk main character with amnesia"
Why does he even need Meteor now, when he can just do it himself it seems.
huh?
This really was an indepth look into what FF7R means in context with a small RE3 intro attached, and it was nice.
FF7 Remake shows what remasters/remakes should be: improved and expanded. Expanding locations, gameplay, characters and lore while keeping it dense.
there is a diference between a remaster and a remake, a remaster is taking something and making it the best it could be with today's knowledge. a remake is taking it, and rebuilding it to fit in today's gaming design.

First I want to address that a lot of the bullshit to do with the series comes from what the fanbase wants and doesn't like
Final fantasy 12 was probably at least in my opinion the best game on the PS2 while most people consider it as shit without understanding anything about it. Another thing is ff11 is still going strong on pc and most people still consider 11 to be one of the best in the series. Not to mention 14 which is pure final fantasy bliss. But then again most people don't play MMOs so I'll let that slide.
Now for the real point saying that none of the best parts of final fantasy 7 is in midgar is all well and good and I kind of agree with it to an extent but saying the remakes isn't good enough because its only midgar is like saying okay scrap the whole beginning of the story and just starting halfway because its "better here"
Plus the team working on ff7r isnt the only team at square and there's many teams working on different games one of which could be ff16. Just because ff7r2 is in development doesnt mean nothing else can be

Sephiroth's name is actually dropped a few times during the Midgar sequence before that scene.
All these recent remakes are so lazily developed that, ironically, the ones that just up-res everything while keeping the core gameplay intact (Crash Twinsanity, New 'n' Tasty, Spyro Reignited, etc.) are the ones that are the most enjoyable to play.
Lmfao tekken 1 fmvs were nightmare fuel that Kazuya smile still haunting me to this day

RE3 however needed a remake more because of the realistic character models and how face's would get sceewed
it's too late buddy, we live in the remake generation now
culture has ended, the year 2012 really did end the world
There's plenty of cool new stuff out there, it's just under funded and harder to find. This is probably the new golden age of gaming if you're on PC.
Well thats a lot of pretentious bullshit if you ask me
What about Resident evil 7 and DMC 5?
Aren't they new games?
@@johnnybensonitis7853 true, i hope we get new games and not more remakes
In this particular case: "What if RE 3 wasn't a fixed-camera tank controlled survival horror, but a third-person shooter with survival horror elements ?" and "What if FFVII wasn't a turn-based japanese role-playing game, but a action game with role-playing elements."
The main problem is that these reimaginings are incapable of doing that which only a true remake can do - completely replace the original due to the sheer quality upgrade.
I am SO IN for whatever is next for FF7 Remake. also glad FF7 is easily available on everything

These two games didn’t age poorly. Look at the originals of these games. The only thing the new ones have better is the graphics.
Original FF7 as a whole still feels more Immerssive imo , still has way better pacing , better music ( they even messed this up )
more effective mature mood , more charming expression ( FF7R's US voice acting sounds horrible and the changed dialogue too ). No design method or graphical style Is ever old anyway , It's all just personal preference , the original did far more In It's time

I appreciate your considered approach to the game, the changes made by the ending(no spoilers) really left a sour taste in my mouth but this kinda of, review of all the games good bits really kinda helped me reflect on how much fun the game is that said I still wish they would have left the last 5 hours or so the same as the original as it felt kinda padded in addition to being poorly conveyed and paced.
