L1KECLOCKWORK and that’s just asinine by the Astro fans, things are way louder I person than on TV that the audio mixers have to kind of tone the audio down for TV, so I couldn’t imagine how loud those bangs are in person.
I remember watching Game 7 of the 2017 World Series with my buddies in a crowded restaurant near LA and we ALL agreed that at least Altuve was a beast and deserves the recognition. I wonder what all those people think now.
I'm guessing people dismiss it as fan noise. A's fans are known the blow horns and bang on drums so maybe the trash can thing might be shrugged off as something similar.
I went to a couple of Astros games, it was loud and clear but me and everyone around my section just thought it was the fans in the sections closest to the Astros dugout lol. Finding out it was a cheating strategy is disappointing
@Marco Deo I hope you're kidding about the Cleveland fan. He's been going to the games with drums for years, before there were even phones to watch it on. He sits in the nosebleeds. He's just there to support.
you can see a couple fans react too. i know hindsight is 20/20, but unless the audio is enhanced, how did nobody ever notice? i mean it’s not like they were being subtle about it, those are pretty loud
As a Brewer fan (Milwaukee homer) I was so impressed how Astros went from being irrelevant to champs. I wanted my Brewers to model the Astros and if they can do it why cant we? And this truly breaks my heart that the Astros cheated to this level and how the players all seemed like proud to cheat.
I think at the game especially you’d be able to hear it, but on tv it’s a little different because you can hear everything in the backgroud and there is a lot of noise at times, that’s the only reason I could think of
7:49 "and watching Carlos Beltran making adjustments in his 20th season" seems like those adjustments at the plate are much easier when you know what's coming.
For those who don’t understand the impact that stealing signs this way can have, especially when it’s obvious that the at bats didn’t always go their way, consider this single effect that the sign stealing does have: if nothing else, knowing which pitch is coming can help you make your at bat more competitive. That is, you’re better able to foul off close pitches and lay off breaking pitches. Even if you don’t get a hit, you at least push up the pitcher’s count. This can have a major effect on the way the game is played in later innings. I’d also be curious to see if it ever helped with baserunning, giving base runners a better idea as to what pitch is coming so they can alter their baserunning approach... but we can only speculate unless someone comes out and says something about it. So, while sign stealing might not have an obvious effect on the game, there is at least a butterfly effect that can create different situations that ultimately favor the team that’s cheating.
*Its essentially what Babe Ruth got to do… no one through off-speed back then, and the average fastball was 82mph… so he knew an 82 mph was coming every pitch. That’s why his numbers are so inflated.*

It's a game, maybe players thought technology was an available method for "sign stealing", beside doing only at home "what could go wrong" and now here we are lol
did they really think that this would go unnoticed? amazing that it wasn't called out immediately - lots of willing participants here. this is blatant.
It’s crazy cause this was the year I started watching baseball, and I live in Houston so I watched the Astros and became a huge fan. I watched most games and this was hidden in each and every game. It makes me feel stupid for not noticing that creepy bang noice. It also makes me feel bad that the one team in Houston that won a championship in my lifetime won it cause they cheated, and I went to the parade for it smh
I’ll never forget watching an Astros game and hearing the booms and thinking to myself, “I wonder where that banging is coming from, sounds like it’s coming from a tunnel or something.” Lol.
Yeah, they struggled to win at home. They tried to take advantage of it because they won the majority of road games and lost most home games where they “cheated”1
What I find most disturbing about the whole thing, is when the crowd chants “let’s go astros” and start to applaud and get really into the game. The cluelessness is so astonishing yet it seems so obvious in retrospective.
I went to every playoff game that year including World Series games. I sat in section 119 3rd row all games. I can assure you that none of the fans knew.
The strikeout ratio is what was most compelling in the stats. 2014-2016 the astros were around 15th each year. 2017-2019, they mysteriously jumped to first or second each year. Then when you look at their strikout ratio compared to other teams, it’s blatantly obvious that they had inhumanly good numbers. They had an incomparably low strikeout ratio to any other team in the league, and they seemed to be consistently average in that regard prior to 2017. The strikout ratio of the entire team dropped from consistently being around 24% to consistently being around 18%. That is a huge drop.
@@christiantretter4605 I get that. But i also wanna know how the first base umps couldnt hear the boom coming from the astros dugout but the players can??
Yep. I don't think I could be cocky cheating. I could barely celebrate knowing I'm cheating. Would always have that guilt inside me. And they were stupid if they didn't think they'd eventually get caught. Of course former Astros players were gonna tell their new teams about and thus get the word out.
That and the fact that the LASTROS only way to compete with the big boys was to tank for years and make a mockery of the game just to acquire any of these bums. I wouldn’t mind seeing them contracted.
I have so much more respect for sh*t teams that stick it out with no need to cheat, the true baseball players. Astros completely ruined the way the game is played.
Looks at the dugout between calling the sign and the pitch being delivered! You would only do that if something is really amiss. He knew something was up.
That part is so damning. The pitcher figures it out and then strikes out Gattis on a change-up when he was expecting a fastball because there was no boom.
Colby M exactly this proves it further that it’s them stealing signs and not a coincidence... once they went to sequences instead of usual signs the camera couldn’t tell them what it is so they didn’t bang the can... he thought fastball because of no sound and got fooled... that clip should be one of the defining clips in the investigation
yep. the players choose their own walk up song. there is another video where Jose says god is the reason he ran in the dugout so fast and told them not to tear off his jersey after the walk off, meanwhile in that video he cheats. Altuve lies on god for wins, fame, and money.
You want to know what's incredible? The fact that these players played everything off so well. Normal people that cheat to win usually have that guilt look or you can see they're acting. The Astros were 53-27 on the road that year and most of this shit is over exaggerated. So, while sign stealing might not have an obvious effect on the game, there is at least a butterfly effect that can create different situations that ultimately favor the team that’s cheating.
when I batted I used common sense on what he would probably throw me .
Definitely, it helps running up the pitch count. Not to mention having a phycological edge.
It helps to a degree, but you still don't know where he is spotting the pitch and you still have to hit it. One of the hardest activities around.

That is a huge drop.

they already had the talent. they didnt need to do this
Omg most of the fans even turn their heads towards the dugout wondering what the hell that bang was
3:45
Ironic that they "changed philosophies" and went from most to least strikeouts
Memestiff *bang
Couldn't possibly be a bunch of 1st round draft picks (including a rookie of the year, and a mvp candidate) from sucking for so long?
grocerylist orrrrr the astros are cheating scum?
@@jacksonace7279 you mad bro?
@@grocerylist shut the fuck up
Can’t wait to trot out my “This sign was stolen” sign when they come to Cleveland!
Mark Walton Go Tribe! I cant wait
Lollll damn bro ima have to do this too
Book a seat behind the batter's box haha!
this comment didnt age well :(. I wish you could. It pisses me off that the astros don't have to deal with the fan outrage on away games
lmao i saw this on tv that was a great sign
"Carlos Beltran making a lot of adjustments on his 20th season"
Yeah, like ring leading the sign stealing electronically you mean? What a professional
24:27 he was hearing those, "boom booms" too.. he has to call an audible and throw something else.
P.s. he didn't baulk, either.
He could tell he went breaking ball heard the boom then went fastball with no boom but when he went back to breaking ball and the booms rang out that’s when he called the catcher to the mound
the crowd was also booing
lol
@@danieln.6454 Crowds boo at literally everything lol
@@danieln.6454 lol ever been to a game before? the crowd always boos at the other team especially when they do time outs or get someone out
Notice how at 24:27 the pitcher catches on and calls an audible that the Astros couldn’t steal and the batter strikes out🤔🤔
Caleb Carlson Lol that one pitch sample size 😂
@@lakersganghighestpaidathle3286 Yeah it was only one pitch, but the fact that he stopped right as he heard the bangs, and called time, was enough to make the Astros stop for almost the rest of the game. Also, look at the score, they were still losing 3-1 when they had been cheating the whole game. So yeah the Astros did suck, and its more than a one pitch sample size.
The vast majority of these are outs. They hit much better away from home.
@@lakersganghighestpaidathle3286 put it in . 25x speed and read the pitchers lips when he calls the catcher to the mound.. He says " they're fucking" stealing signs was probably the rest of it. He also points to the dugout after he strikes him out 😂 😂 so obvious
I wonder if any umpire ever asked “What’s that banging in your dugout?’”
bcask61 I’m pretty sure they didn’t, the umps and the mlb love the Astros and always cheat for them.
@@yakuzaohtani3631 stfu..
The astros havent been shit for the longest time.. now that the got a superstar team everyone loves them and wants to cheat for them?? Gtf outta here
@@juliangarza8687 i mean theyve choked the last 2 years even with cheating lol they just got lucky by winning the title in 2017
"Just me and your mom, move along!"
@@cortezmauricio56 saying they choked last year isnt fair to the red sox. The red sox dog walked them
This is so obvious. How did other teams not go crazy and call them out?
I mean, maybe it’s not as obvious when you’re not looking for it...idk
Other pitchers knew but some people thought they were being sour grapes. Danny Farquhar knew for sure.
They did read some news articles for once. MLB comissioner just ignored it and hoped the Astros would eventually stop but it spiraled for 3 years into the buzzer in 2019 post season.
Actually the Nationals had known about the banging in 2017, after Doolittle warned after just coming over in a trade with Oakland. The Nationals would then change their signs eery inning just to be safe and to mess with the Astros
Yu Darvish called them out like crazy and he got laughed at, belittled, and dismissed.
They completely demolished his confidence and he just finally got it back midway through 2019 season.
He knew something wasn’t right and his intuition was 1,000,000% correct.
He said they were always guessing right, no matter what he threw. That simply doesn’t happen in baseball.
Fuck the Astros. I hate this team more than any team on Earth.
Yes, it’s much harder to notice when you’re so in the moment and focused on playing the game.
3:45 “They have totally changed their philosophy”
I wonder how...
And then the trash can bangs immediately after he says that 😂
When Lance Armstrong cheated, cycling took his awards away. I can't believe cycling has more integrity that MLB.
I can. Sports franchises have way more pull than any individual cyclist, no matter how big of a brand he may have.
Lance used clean blood to never fatigue it’s similar to PEDs lmfaoooo how can you compare a strategy to visible signs to illegal performance enhancements
Glad MLB did not take the title from them or the Red Sox.
Right and dude had cancer still got no sympathy
Ywah
I'm not a big baseball fan so I didn't understand what was happening, but then I started to see the catcher sign to the pitcher. and realized the boom is for every one of the catcher's fingers that he signs. My mind was blown. How did they not get caught?
I'm wrong.... sorry
3:46 "they have totally changed their philosophy and have stuck out less than any team this season" 🤯
🤔
