I mean it’s hard to actually hate the game. It’s not doing anything wrong other than not differentiating hard enough from the previous MW games. When you’re spending 60-80$ for a game (on top of paid DLC), people expect it to be worth it and considering how little time there was between the MW games on top of black ops having such variety and sense of personalized style to it unlike the Grey and browns of the Modern warefare games which is a hard to personalize, i don’t blame the folks who sniffed their noses at it and either stucked with MW2 or looked elsewhere. I also don’t think it was the right decision to simply neuter a series’s multiplayer for the sake of “balance”. Balance should be tertiary to priority number 1: MAKE IT FUN, and priority number 2: MAKE IT FUNCTIONAL. That doesn’t mean they didn’t have no reason to tighten up some of the really messed up problems in MW2 or other CoD multiplayers but it’s never a good idea to simply take away what people had fun with or insisting on making the players play the way the developers want you to play it. At that point, you’re just inviting people to stick to the previous games since if everything else is basically the same Except the balance, why move on to MW3?
It’s genuinely surprising that this game was so hated at launch. I was one of the players that started playing COD with this game and black ops way before I even had proper internet. I remember playing the campaign over and over again because of how exciting it was. And maxing out spec ops long before I could even touch multiplayer. It received quite a lot of hate. It had a pretty bad launch with no cheat protection and it had bad user reviews. However it is still the cod title that sold the most copies and my all time favourite.
I actually loved the familiarity between MW2 and MW3. Some of the points you brought up were very valid, but as a kid, I never minded, and just REALLY enjoyed the improvements to the game. In fact, I might even have the most hours from the COD series in MW3.
I loved all the menu's being the same, they were damn near perfect In mw2, so why fix what ain't broke? I will admit new reload animations would have been cool tho.
There's actually something about the story especially at the end that i think the developer's were attempting but most people actually didn't notice. Yuri was there in almost every important event in Makarov's plans. Doesn't that sound similar? Yuri was Makarov's Soap. The devs just failed to emphasize on that.
Maybe because at that time we had higher expectations. And people didnt like that it was a Mw2.5 But you can debate me considering the fact that WaW is Basicly COD4 WWII Mod.
In Modern Warfare 2, Corporal Dunn basically asked: "when are we going to Moscow?" That should have been Modern Warfare 3, fighting in the Kremlin and the Red Square.
Technically we did take the fight to them but the us and the other allies stayed in Europe, heck what they could have done is have delta capture the chemical specialist and when they do you have to go back to friendly line and before its over you and your forces have to fight the russian at the border.
I was one of the rare people who played black ops as my first call of duty and then Mw3 as my second. I thought this game was a masterpiece, but I know why people don’t like it
It's because fans at the time felt that the game was far too similar to mw2, and like act man said, it felt unoriginal in a lot of ways, and didnt do many special things, aside from spec ops. I also think it was good, but people at the time had a good reason to hate it, even if it wasnt bad
One thing that was really disappointing about the mw3 campaign to me was how it felt like they removed so many things from mw2's campaign, like claymores, heartbeat sensors, riot shields, dual-wielding, thermal weapons, etc. It makes the weapon sandbox feel sort of empty.
but this shows you can’t please everyone, if they kept those items people might have complained that they overused them, or didn’t add enough new content

AW was the first game that didn’t interest me in the slighest (because of the exo mechanics which apparently reappeared in every single game since, except for wwii which was just bad anyway).
For me it was 2005-2009. COD2, MW1, WaW (well, i don't like that much WaW, but i get why many people do) and MW2. With another small period when Black Ops 2 was around (MP was great, and the campaign did a bit more than just recycle the mw formula like the first BOps). I wish i could say COD1 too but i didn't play it at the time (the game is great tho). From there i don't really think the franchise was ever as good. Enjoyable?, yeah sure, but not great like those days when the OG Infinity Ward was around (and Treyarch atleast tried to do interesting stuff like zombies or the bo2 campaign).
woah more than a decade later and the new modern warfare 3 is the same update to modern warfare 2 except it's just a below average, mediocre game, wow what a time loop!
Mw3 Campaign: Strong moments and likeable characters Multiplier really good Spec-ops : Expanded and has the biggest repayability to this day (ngl) So for me it's kinda an awesome because even if the campaign doesn't have that much intention to replay it you can at least play it once and get out of it without regrets Ofc I agree with the similarities and the arguments that you make and I am not denying them ofc. Just my opinion. See ya actman
Campaign for me is dissapointing. Neither good nor terrible. Sure the story is good, but they made the gameplay worse. The gun variety and paths are very limited and enemy snipers are non existent during rush combat.

@Chris E. I have played the game. The story and spec ops are a definite improvement over mw2 but there are just far too many similarities to justify a 60 dollar price tag.
@NCCalvin9 "Easier" doesn't apply to coming up with good ideas to make a compelling video game. Production cost doesn't necessarily equate to good quality A game can be expensive or cheap, but neither of those should be a reason to release a crappy game.
@@DrkTheNewGuy Shut up your talking out your ass MW3 in 2011 was hated at launch because it's was the MW2 2.0 it was all the same you don't even know wtf your talking about 😂
@@NCCalvin9 I never referred my argument with how similar mw3 was to mw2, all I said was cheap or expensive shouldn't be a reason to release a bad game. Your hostility astouding.
I thought there was never an issue with the Nuke. I mean seriously 25 KILLS without dying once? I always thought that ending the game and have your team win even if they were behind was a worthy reward for people skilled enough to get that many kills without dying.
Getting a nuke in MW2 wasn't an accomplishment of any skill, all you had to do was boost to get it and during the peak of the game's popularity that was probably 80-90% of the way the nuke's were accomplished in the matches I played. All you had to do is get one other person and each with a tactical insertion and go off to a secluded part of the map and then just have one shoot the other and keep spawning in front of each other while the one gets unlimited kills. Then since you're in a party you just take turns killing each other each match so you can each get a nuke. There is a reason booster hunting became a popular thing to do during that time and there were tons of YT videos of people doing it.
I really wish they kept this "middle of the road" approach to the multiplayer. The defensive killstreaks were great. It didn't matter if you were good or not, you were still helping the team with your kill rewards. Wish they brought this back.
And now COD devs make it easier for shit players by punishing the actual good players with heavy Skill Based Matchmaking. They had the formula for success right in their hands but the franchise became an inconsistent mess 2013 and beyond

One of my favorite touches of the part of turbulence where makarov pops out of the door, is where in red letters it says “Objective failed” all you did was follow the sequence but this isn’t like the other games where everything sorts itself out by the end of the mission. Then it’s like no matter what you do, you just can’t do right, you follow what you’re told in the clock tower, and soap ends up dying while also thinking you’re sabotaging the team, and soap died thinking you were a traitor, which makes price question your intentions
I'd say more like a good remake. Think how THQ Nordic does some of their remakes: the soul of the original is kept almost completely intact, but graphics, gameplay, and animations are greatly enhanced and cut content is also included at times. The Destroy All Humans remake is probably the best example.

The main reason it was mediocre was due to familiarity and felt like a carbon copy to MW2
@@tor112233 id say the time he spent listing/mentioning the positives outweighs the time spent listing/mentioning the negatives/mediocre
It’s mainly the similarities to MW3 that made it mediocre.
It’s genuinely surprising that this game was so hated at launch. I was one of the players that started playing COD with this game and black ops way before I even had proper internet. I remember playing the campaign over and over again because of how exciting it was. And maxing out spec ops long before I could even touch multiplayer.

@@govinlock8568 yeah. Like almost every mission is just constant shooting. @@funnyman5254 well its always been like this in the mw trilogy, its the same as killing an entire militia single handedly in two mw2 missions
Back then it pretty much was the same as mw2, and it was the 3rd modern warfare, so people even before it came out really wanted to hate it, and they actually had good reason to this time, even though now we all know how good it is, but compared to the rest of them back then it wasn't all that

This game seems like a masterpiece now compared to the new MW3. I'm happy the original exists, so I can forget the new one.
Yeah, when I play all these old games, I always think: "at least they can't take this from us".
Yeah, COD become a downfall, people lost their minds for no reason when a new one came out year after year they only focus on graphics instead of scripting and storytelling.
Screw that game! Sucked balls, its worse than Ghosts and Vanguard.

ONE OF THE BEST CAMPAIGN
This should be titled as "why was cod mw3 so AWESOME but feel MEDIOCORE"
Because throughout the video you keep praising the game for its multiplayer, spec ops and its campaign
Compared to all the other shitty cods that came up after... It was underrated
It's a good game but it is VERY similar to MW2 and it cost 60 bucks at launch. It's an update to a pre existing game for the price of a triple A game.
@Chris E. People weren't to happy paying 60 bucks for a glorified update.
@Chris E. I have played the game. The story and spec ops are a definite improvement over mw2 but there are just far too many similarities to justify a 60 dollar price tag.
Sexually Confusing yeah but give the situation of development can you really blame them
The fact that this game took roughly half the time that the 2023 MWIII took to make and the 2011 version turned out way better is shocking
That isn't shocking games back then were eaiser and cheaper to make, your IQ is shocking 😂
@NCCalvin9 "Easier" doesn't apply to coming up with good ideas to make a compelling video game. Production cost doesn't necessarily equate to good quality
A game can be expensive or cheap, but neither of those should be a reason to release a crappy game.

DIE SATANS MINIONS
I thought there was never an issue with the Nuke.
I mean seriously 25 KILLS without dying once? I always thought that ending the game and have your team win even if they were behind was a worthy reward for people skilled enough to get that many kills without dying.
Same
You probably have never played mw2 in its prime all the sweats went for nukes and there was no fun
@@untouchable7024 MW3 was more balanced so it’s harder IMO
It would have been more balanced in mw2 if it was gun streaks only. For the nuke, anyway.
@@Mr.Murphy2802 SBMM has been in CoD for over a decade and still one of the top franchises. Imagine being stupid enough to think that SBMM makes or breaks a game
@@NakedSpaceMan it can exist in COD but the level of SBMM in recent games is just borderline cancerous. You can go one game absolutely shit stomping noobs but then be put in a lobby with low kd players against real sweats. It also doesn't help the fact that the system is mostly like this due to warzone and its matchmaking
@@Mr.Murphy2802 So...it's completely random based on your skill range. Like CBMM would be. Sounds to me like you're just bad sometimes like everyone else and can't take losing every now and then. Oh no, the horror.
@@NakedSpaceMan nah I know people have good games and bad games, its natural. But what I dont understand is the fact that SBMM is so rampant in the most recent titles. In older cods the teams would be balanced to have all types of skill ranges because it prioritised connection above skill. I can hop on to mw2 and find a lobby with a couple actually good players and some shit players on both teams. In recent years its like they throw all the sweats on to one team and have a mixed bag on the other
I never thought this was mediocre. In fact it was actually my first call of duty and will always be my favorite. Even though I mostly play zombies now.

One of my favorite touches of the part of turbulence where makarov pops out of the door, is where in red letters it says “Objective failed” all you did was follow the sequence but this isn’t like the other games where everything sorts itself out by the end of the mission.
