I’ll never understand the constant and persistent hate Pyromania still receives. It’s an almost flawless hard rock/pop metal album with some of the catchiest hooks ever recorded.
Yes Sad Boi - if you like On Through The Night and High And Dry, why in the hell wouldn't you dig Pyromania? It's still pretty heavy, great riffs and production isn't too commercial and glossy yet. Songs are memorable and guitar heavy....the balladitis hadn't neutered the band yet! I think the hatred for what's to come after Pyromania has swallowed up any love that was once there for Pyromania.

By the way Nick, since we chatted at the SoT Fall Festival I dove into Primordial. Still processing what I like best, but I am liking the journey!

This was an excellent topic that led to a lot of interesting discourse. It's also good to see hear the perspectives from the newcomers! Bryce knows his stuff and I'm impressed with how he comes up with some of the more obscure bands from back in the day. Citing WASP as a favorite was cool, used to be one of mine too, but Blackie's well ran dry long ago and I don't hold out much hope for anything new. But at least they're touring again. Kudos to Nick and Steve for the mentions of Amorphis; phenomenal Finnish melodic death that doesn't get nearly enough recognition. I really appreciate these SOT shows, the way they're managed, and the constant flow of content--Pete does a tremendous job and everyone brings something to the table. To that end, and this is just my opinion, I'd appreciate if Chris could save his rants for the subject matter rather than the length of the show. He's a knowledgeable, funny guy who definitely makes things interesting, but I'm siding with Butch when he suggests the shows are for the viewers. Absolutely. I for one don't visit thinking I hope the show ends quickly--otherwise why bother? We're here to be entertained, and to that end, these guys do a great job and the interaction among them is terrific. If Chris is really annoyed or pressed for time, he should give his picks earlier and then leave--just like Mr. Keeler did. Simple enough. But don't complain and negatively influence the others. It's not all about you. All in all, SOT was a terrific find for me and I always look forward to all of its variations.
Pretty odd, but it is what it is. I love Nirvana, but I can name about 50-70 bands I love more than them. I like the 90s punk scene more personally. And I love Death and Sepultura a lot. Death's 90s material is excellent. Sepultura's Arise and Chaos AD are awesome too! Roots is fine, but overrated and Against is easily one of the worst albums ever made. It sucks.
One of them is boring music made by stinky hippies who mumble and stare at their feet on stage, one has an elite backing band with top tier metal musicians at their live shows, which is what I was referring to if you’d pay attention.
@@brycetalksmetal the point of punk music isn’t to sound like every other 80s hair metal shred band. It’s to express attitude and raw emotions. Great pick with The Cardigans, Ryan! You forgot to mention their ingenious cover versions of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Iron Man! I also discovered them in the 90s and, of course, had a crush on Nina Persson for a while, who hadn't? What a great, unique singer. Do you prefer their early 60s-influenced pop or their later, more pop-rock-oriented stuff with hints of folk rock? My favorite Cardigans album will always be their first international release 'Life', although it's a similar case as with AC/DC's High Voltage because it contains the best tracks from their Swedish-only debut Emmerdale, and some weaker tracks from Emmerdale replaced by all-time classics such as Carnival. I also prefer the re-recorded version of Rise and Shine to the one on Emmerdale.

Keep up the great work guys.
The always go to channel Tuesday morning for me, time difference living in the UK 🇬🇧.
“There’s no shame in that”
“John Denver”
“Ehhh”
Karen is hilarious 😆
am a big fan of Rammstein and I can state that they actually are one of the biggest and most popular bands in Europe. They easily sell out stadia for four or five consecutive nights. Unforgettable show and strong songs go together here, even if you don't understand German. A must see at least one time in a lifetime.
ca c'est vrai😃👍
Great episode 👏
My turn...

Band I think is overrated: U2

A guilty pleasure: Backstreet Boys.
A band I should have seen live but haven't: Fu Manchu.

Karen is awesome! Please have her on permanently.
Karen bags on bryce for liking Babymetal.....and in the same breath talks about being in a pinball club ? Madonna and Michael Jackson .... I'll take Babymetal any freaking day over any of that other crap. Pinball club , 😂😂😂, who's the leader , is he the ....wait for it ....pinball wizard ?
I'm 54 , love Babymetal and a whole bunch of Japanese Fe-Metal bands . I saw all the good bands growing up at Sundance , LaMour , the Ritz old and new , Showcase (LaMour far east) ....the garden , coliseum...saw Anthem in Japan..
Favorite shows Slayer in 88 felt forum and Sundance in 90 , Maiden somewhere in time at the garden in 87 and coliseum for 7th son (missed power slave shows due to surgeries) and BABYMETAL in Orlando 2023 .
People can't get past the name , they and the band really rip on stage .
So , f******** the pinball club , one step lower than the av guys in elementary school..
😎🤘Im with you Bryce...
Band I Hate: Bon Jovi
Band I Think Is Overrated: Queen
Band I Think Is Underrated: Cows

Band That Got Me into Rock: Led Zeppelin
Band I should've seen: King Crimson
Guilty Pleasure: '80s Madonna
Also, "miserable sidewalk" cracked me up.
I'm w/you on Bon Jovi and Led Zeppelin. The Queen statement is a bold one but, I get it. I like Queen but I don't love them.
Band I love: The Fall. Yes!
Nick's Killing Joke shout was excellent. Great band who are still banging out great albums to this day.
Absolutely. I liked that pick as well.
The reason Rammstein is so big is because of their stage show, it’s theatrical rock at its extreme.
The songs are catchy too.
I’ll never understand the constant and persistent hate Pyromania still receives. It’s an almost flawless hard rock/pop metal album with some of the catchiest hooks ever recorded.
I could not disagree more. Karen nailed it.
Everyone likes bands others think are shit; especially among friends and colleagues 😸
And I'll never understand the hate for Nirvana, but hey this is how it is people just like and dislike different things.
I would never call it hard rock. It's just so limp and the vocals are really poor
Great show all! Nick's story on Miles Davis endorsing Dave Lombardo. As Pete said "That cat's amazing", I can hear that totally! I am going to dive into Ancient Rites, a few quick listens I like. By the way Nick, since we chatted at the SoT Fall Festival I dove into Primordial. Still processing what I like best, but I am liking the journey!
Excellent!!
The Count’s guilty pleasure bands are good choices, I’m a big Bauhaus fan and Reverend Horton heat are great.
The thing is, the fact that Rammstein can sell out stadiums in the US (and everywhere else) and sing in German, is a testament to how good they are. And they are phenomenal.
I saw Ares Kingdom tonight in Raleigh. They were great. The lead guitar work was outstanding.
Band I Hate: Korn
Overrated: Ghost
Underrated: Metal Church
Band I Love: Manowar
Can listen to over and over: Running Wild

Welcome KAREN. ! All great co hosts ! 👍💯
Even though Bryce was quiet, he was impressive when he did speak. Smart kid.
... and so patient waiting for his turn to speak!
This was the most hilarious episode thanks SoT!
Adrian Smith and janick have been the band the same amount of time really, If you think about it. Adrian Smith 81-89 99 to present .That's 32 years. Janick gers 90 to present. = 32 years.
It seems fashionable to hate Nickelback with no real substance why. I like them and live they are pretty heavy, but it's all opinions at the end of the day.
Love the Mothership shout-out. They would've been my "Favorite Band to See Live". They never disappoint and Kelley is an absolute beast on that guitar.
BAND I HATE: Pearl Jam
BAND I THINK IS OVERRATED: Metallica
BAND I THINK IS UNDERRATED: Badlands
BAND I LOVE: Black Country Communion
BAND I CAN LISTEN TO OVER AND OVER AGAIN: Blue Oyster Cult
BAND THAT MADE ME FALL IN LOVE WITH MUSIC: Rolling Stones

Bands I hate - Nickelback
Band that is overrated - Foo Fighters

Band I love - AC/DC
Band I can listen to over and over - KISS
Band that made me fall in love with music - Probably Michael Jackson's Thriller album, I was 8 or so but I had KISS Dynasty on 8-track as a 5 year old and would play it non stop until the damn player broke, so maybe it was KISS. :)
Band that changed my life - Metallica ( 83 -88 )
Band that surprised me - Chicago
Guilty pleasure - I was going to say The Carpenters because I love Karen's drumming and her voice, what a beautiful voice she had but I'll go with, Elvis Presley.
Band I should have seen live - The Police or Pantera but a band that still exists?... Guns N Roses I guess, so many bands to choose from. lol
Favorite band to see live - AC/DC
Hope Karen becomes a regular she's awesome 👌
She always reminds me of Patricia Morrison, I don't think she would mind me saying that. Agree with a few of her opinions, hope she's a reg as well.
Hello! I loved this episode and some of my answers mirror what a couple of you said:
Band(s) I Hate: GNR (Overplayed, overrated and worshiped for what reason IDK?!) & Poison (They just suck, period!)
Band(s) I Think Are Overrated: Nirvana (One album doesn't make them legends people!) & Aerosmith (A bad retread of The Rolling Stones!)
Band I Think Is Underrated: INXS (Why they're not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame IDK?! Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, U2, Pearl Jam and Green Day are already, WTF?!)
Band(s) I Love: INXS & Led Zeppelin
Band(s) I Can Listen to Over and Over again: INXS & Led Zeppelin (When I get in the car, I'm always trying to decide whether I want to listen to Kick or Led Zeppelin IV.)
Band That Made Me Fall in Love with Music: INXS (I was thirteen and in class when I heard the guitar solo and wondered who is this? When I found out, I wanted that song. When I couldn't get the song, I wanted that album. And I got Listen Like Thieves for Christmas. The next year, I got Kick for my birthday and the love affair was ON!)
Band That Changed My Life: Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (I liked her because she could sing, play guitar and make rebellion look sexy.)
Band That Surprised Me: Duran Duran (The fact that they're still around and are serious musicians.)
Guilty Pleasure: Justin Timberlake (Sexy Back people, c'mon!)
Band I should've seen: The Rolling Stones (I could've seen them in '89 when they played at Arrowhead Stadium, which was down the street from my house. And 1994 when I lived in Kansas City and they played in Columbia, which was two hours away.)
Favorite Band I've Seen Live: INXS (I saw them in '88, '94 and '97. They live up to the hype of being one of the best live bands.)
INXS does not deserve to be in the Rock Hall. Australia Music Hall of Fame, definite yes. One of the guys from Tastes Like Music said that.
@@takodabostwick8507 I used to subscribe to that channel but now I don't. This was before I heard this. Now I don't feel bad unsubscribing. BTW, Never Tear Us Apart has been covered at least a half dozen times. Adelle is recording her cover as we speak. And a popular song on Spotify that had 1B downloads sampled Need You Tonight. They dominated the music scene from the mid to late 80s to early 90s. So, I don't know who you think deserves to be "inducted," but I think you're wrong to say the least. As far as Taste Like Music, I could give a @@@@@ what they say. Two out of three of them are morons anyway. And, if I ever come across that episode, I'll tell them so like I'm telling you!
Hi Chris, you introduced me to the Birthday Massacre a couple years ago. I've got few of their CDs now -- thanks so much!
Awesome!! Yes, they are a VERY cool band!!!
Nifelheim, Revenge and Horna shirts. Excellent taste.
Blondie is awesome. Not a bad album. Those first 3 are especially great.
Green Day has recorded a bunch of really great songs!
Surprised Bryce did not mention Ted Nugent
Another classic HVS show Pete, OMG! insightful, hilarious, fun, educational, nostalgic...fuck TV this is where it's at, what a perfect bunch of diverse personalities! I don't understand the overall hatred for Nirvana though, on the contrary here, love 'em. Great Morbid Angel story Nick, first three albums are utter classics! Blondie was a bizarre guilty pleasure Chris but whatever, lol...keep Karen on, we love her. Peace out.
Hate/Dislike: Motley Crue / Megadeth
Over-rated: Van Halen / Megadeth
Under-rated: King's X
Band I Love: Motorhead
Listen to anytime: Free
Made me fall in love with music: Elvis Presley / The Beatles
Band that changed my life: Iron Maiden
Band that surprised me: Jethro Tull
Guilty pleasure: Queen
Band I should have seen: turned down a chance to see Pink Floyd in '94
Favourite band to see live: The Wildhearts
So good to see Macabre getting some love. Really underrated pioneers of extreme music, and remained quite original and unique up until the Murder Metal album (unfortunately, the last couple of albums have been quite weak for their previous standard). Props to Ralph.
Thanks and cheers, yeah Grim Reality, Gloom & Sinister Slaughter are the shit, but I still enjoy the rest of the catalog, really nobody like them.
@@countralfus6408 Absolutely. And I really love Dahmer too, killer (no pun intended) production by Neil Kernon. Murder Metal has a couple of filler tracks, but plenty of killer as well. It's only in their last couple of albums that they started to feel like going through the motions but they're still one of my top 5 extreme metal bands. It was really nice for you to bring them up here and I hope it leads to some people checking them out.
• BAND I HATE: Imagine Dragons

Karen! I’ll go see the Stones with you. We can listen to Cher on the way. I got you, girl! 🤘😘 😂
I "dislike" Rob Zombie...too bland
Overrated: Crue: "Shout" is great, the rest, nah.
Under: the perennial choice: Saxon
Over and over: Six Feet Under--love Barnes vocal at his pinnacle
Got me into: the "olds" anybody? Beach Boys
Changed life: Beatles
Surprise: tie Rammstein and Ghost
Not guilty...this one goes out to Butch: "Turbo Lover"
Should have seen: many chances, never quite made it: Pat Benatar
Live: This one is tough, got to go with Rolling Stones
Band I hate - Coldplay
Overrated Band - Radiohead
Underrated Band - The Black Keys
Band I love - Tool
band I can listen to over and over again - Beatles
Band that made me fall in love with music - Styx
Band that change my life - Grateful Dead
Band That Surprised Me - Supertramp
Guilty Pleasure - 70's Disco
Bands I should have seen but never did - The Who
Band I love to see live - The Black Keys
Band I hate - Nirvana. (Tuneless 90’s crap)
Band who is overrated - Van Halen. (I don’t get it, especially the Dave Lee Roth era).
Band who is underrated - Lucifer (should be huge all over the world with their blend of occult lyrics and 70’s and 80’s style rock).
Band I Love - Rainbow (the Dio years obvs. The first power metal band).
Band I can listen to over and over again - Dokken (anyone who labels them as just ‘hair metal’ have obviously missed the point).
The band that made me fall in love with music - Deep Purple. (I remember that day in 1985 when I was 12 and the first time I heard them, they just blew me away).
The band that changed my life - Dio (the greatest voice metal has ever known. RIP).
Band that surprised me - Ghost (their image does not do justice to how accessible their music is).
Guilty Pleasure - Cliff Richard and the Shadows (From 1958- 1966 they were carrying the flag for British Rock n Roll and in the pre Beatles era, they were the biggest thing around.
Band that I should have seen but didn’t - Status Quo (sure they’re basic, but they’re fun and sometimes all you wanna do is just shake your head to some rockin’ tunes without looking for some profound life changing experience).
Favourite Band to see Live - Yes. (The musicianship in this band has alsways been so high and their songs so good that you’re always guaranteed a good show).
People will disagree, but as I’ve always said. ‘Music is a personal journey, travel as you will’.
Cliff Richard & The Shadows were absolutely brilliant! Good pick, although I wouldn’t feel guilty about liking them.
I like the Spice Girls, now that’s something to be ashamed of…
Good call on Rival Sons Butch and Chris Isaak, great voice and songwriter.
Mothership followed by Reverend Horton Heat, that's a double dose of Dallas, TX right there...
All in all, SOT was a terrific find for me and I always look forward to all of its variations.
agree with Chris..System of a Clown
Bryce hates Nirvana but loves Babymetal…?
Nirvana was able to bring punk music to the masses, just like Stevie Ray Vaughan brought the blues to the masses. Punk bands don’t need to be “good” at their instruments to be a good band.
@@cle9146 however you gotta word liking the stinky boring hippies bud
@@cle9146 Nirvana was not a punk band.

Hey Butch, why couldn't you grow your hair like Ace...yer Mom? My mom too!
And from what I know of Nifelheim, they wouldn't dig you either...
Another epically entertaining episode from the Hudson Valley Squares. Thanks everyone for such an entertaining time.
Butch's experience with Monster Truck was the same for me. Damn they were amazing live!
Ha! Ryan! In yo face! Discharge is one of the few bands I WILL get to see! Seeing them this Saturday at Revolution Calling, a hardcore punk festival in Eindhoven, Netherlands. Paid like a hundred bucks (90 Euro's) for the entire 12 hour long festival just to see them. Don't know the other bands on the bill, but like fuck I'm missing out on Discharge, or I'll never be able to see them again.
Karen was a great addition to this episode. Loved her vibe.
Someone just needs to play her the first six Aerosmith albums 😀
Nicolas Emmylou Harris Heaven Only Knows is one of the happiest songs ever! Was just listening the other night.
Nicholas, I actually came across a video from some concert honoring Emmylou Harris and a band called First Aid Kit did one of her songs...I believe you mentioned them once.
Great job, Karen!!!
Baby Metal puts on a fantastic show!
Funny thing, though: Bands singing in English are filling out venues in Germany.

Ryan absolutely hit the hammer on the head with Motörhead. I could listen to them all the time. Same goes for The Rolling Stones but I'll put them as 'band I love' because they're my favorite.
A few bands Ryan and Nick like I'm in total agreement, not many though, just a genre I don't really get.
skow coming up with gems even i haven't heard of. hes the best
Great episode. I had to google "crust punk".
Finally somebody who understands the concept of a guilty pleasure - thank you Bryce! :)
yeah it needs to be re-defined me thinks...
Tori Amos never gets any Guilty Pleasure love on this channel
Chris A you tried to keep it under an hour :) Band that got me into music Michael Jackson was first followed by Motley Crue. Band i wish i had seen live Rush. Band I love: Kiss,. Band I could listen to over and over again: Stratovarius, Megadeth. Underrated: Anthrax. Band that broke my heart: Metallica. Guilty pleasure: Wham- Make it Big.
