    As a bachelor that knows next to nothing about cooking I really appreciate these videos. I am curious, what purpose do the 3 metal spoons serve? With the pots and pans I use I opted to not do this as metal damages them.

      it is because the metal spoons are realising metal oxides on the water which change the chemical composition along with its properties. I think there is a chance of poisoning with this method.

    • @HomeCookingwithSomjit

      Hi Valverde1385, thank you for sharing 😀 Just would like to clarify that the metal spoons used were stainless steel 304 grade, so they are food-safe. For a peace of mind, porcelain spoons can be used to substitute the metal ones as well. Hope it helps 😀

      Hi Pepe Le Pe, the metal spoons were added to help soften the kidney beans faster. This is because the metal spoon is a good conductor of heat, and the beans in contact with it would absorb the heat faster than the water. Another alternative to metal spoons are porcelain ones. Hope it helps 😀

      Hi Zenab Tafail, Thank you for the suggestion. If the bean has been soaked overnight boiling until it gets soft is possible. I hv been reading so many asking whats the purpose of putting in the metal spoons and her explanation was to make the beans soft faster. Water boiling pt is 100 degree C. With or without metal spoon the boil will not exceed 100 degree C. Putting in the metal spoon though is a good conductor of heat will not add 0.01 degree more heat. This the scientific explanation as against old MIL tales. Im sure next time if you prepare the exact time without the spoon u will get the same result as your demo with spoon.

My problem with kidney beans is that I never knew that it would be soaked even overnight. So, we burn a lot of fuel while it's being cooked. But I'll prefer the soaking to the use of metals

      Hi Trooestblue, thank you for the question 😀 May I ask more information? Do you know which cuisine it's usually eaten with? What colour is it as well? What about the smell of the paste? It's a little difficult to pinpoint the exact paste as there's a lot that's spicy and flavourful - and different cuisines usually have their own spicy paste too 😀

    • @Trooestblue
      @Trooestblue 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HomeCookingwithSomjit not really. All I know it is used in everything is what the girl told me. It was red. I remember it being so spicy but the flavor was so good. The girls that told me about it one was filipina and the other two are Thai. So I assume both cultures are aware. It may start with a P but I honestly can’t remember.

      Hi Trooestblue, thank you for the reply 😀 I'm not familiar with Filipino cuisine, but for Thai, the paste that's spicy, flavourful and red may be Panang curry paste (th-cam.com/video/7NdfyUs0TiA/w-d-xo.html), or Prik Pao (th-cam.com/video/gPR-El8X7_I/w-d-xo.html , this is the non-spicy version. For a spicy version, it can be made with more chillies).
      Hope it helps 😀

    I couldn’t stop wondering what’s the point of not soaking the beans when it can save tons of water and time? Just add some water foe some time, you don’t have to do anything during this time, the they are ready for use.

    She used the metal spoons but didn't explain why . did she not tell us on purpose?

    • @HomeCookingwithSomjit
      @HomeCookingwithSomjit  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Hervaven Gill, thank you for your comment 😀 No, it was not on purpose - I simply missed it. The metal spoons were added to help soften the kidney beans faster. This is because the metal spoon is a good conductor of heat, and the beans in contact with it would absorb the heat faster than the water. Hope it helps 😀

    • @silverpassion3588
      @silverpassion3588 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HomeCookingwithSomjit Water boiling pt is 100 degree C. With or without metal spoon the boil will not exceed 100 degree C. Putting in the metal spoon though is a good conductor of heat will not add 0.01 degree more heat. This the scientific explanation as against old MIL tales.

    Useless trick. waste of nutrients drained thrice. Lazy cookwork, instead of soaking.

      Hi m t, thank you for the feedback. This video is meant to help those who forgot to soak the beans overnight / don't have the luxury of time for soaking the beans for 6 hours minimum, but need it urgently, within a few hours. It is an alternative method of ensuring the beans are 100% cooked to prevent food poisoning, while cooking in a rush. Unfortunately, we can't have both speed and safety/quality for this beans.
      If you prefer to soak the beans until it is cooked, I also have a video for it as well: th-cam.com/video/5Ij5hOhlRhM/w-d-xo.html
      Cheers!
