    I remember Kent Coast services had 4-CEP/4-BEP/4-CEP formations, replacing the steam trains, whereas the Brighton got 4-CIG/4-BIG/4-CIG replacing 6-PUL/6-PAN and later 4-VEP replacing 4-LAV. "IG" was an old code for Brighton, hence the designations on those routes.

    It’s amazing how videos from 2005 now look like they’re from the 1980’s 😅

      Those vids were shot on a Sony Mini-DV camera. Very high quality back in the day, but how things change!

    1st class ticket holders were seriously conned when these trains were withdrawn and new trains 1st class was identical to standard

      I agree, I volunteer at Bluebell Railway and you can tell the difference between 1st and 3rd class, the new trains it’s just the standard seat with 1st class cloth on the headrest.

      Southern do offer the worst first class, that is obvious
      However, thameslink do have something that resembles first class, but one can sit in the rear first class section and not pay the additional fares, but have to fork out extra to use the front first class section
      South west trains (railway) first class is marginally better than standard on the 450, quite good on the 444 and 158/9 sprinters, and I would pay an upgrade on a trip to Weymouth or Exeter
      I have "sampled" first class on short trips between clapham junction and Waterloo/Victoria etc etc

    i was so lucky i was born in 1996, so i grew up in the phase out of the class 421 and got to ride on this awesome EMU i also went on the class 422 before they phased that out for a new class 387 a couple of years ago.

      There were every part a decent emu,

      keith barber I didn’t say the Class 387 wasn’t decent I was just saying 422 was phased out and changed to that I didn’t say anywhere it wasn’t decent, a driver let have a look around the cab of class 377 before he set it up when I asked on the way home from bluebell railway that was cool.

      @@samjmk3029 i am by no means knocking the newer stuff just saying that the 421 was a decent emu
      More modern emu are decent as well, but the older trains has more character

      @samjmk3029 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      keith barber that’s what I was saying originally, so I’ve obviously misinterpreted your comment thinking you meant I was mocking the new trains and saying the old ones were better, when no I was just saying the old were really awesome and I was lucky I got to even ride these trains before there phase out so it’s fine.

    Why are these trains *so* noisy

    • @wossisname4540
      @wossisname4540 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All part of the fun, really. Mk1 bodywork is somewhat flimsier and less insulated than 'plastic' trains and '63 stock bogies weren't designed with quiet in mind; why would they be?
