Norges Statsbaner NSB Class 21c 2-6-0 no.376 'Norwegian' in action on the Kent & East Sussex Railway in the early summer of 2016. Built in Sweden by Nydkvist och Holm (later known as NOHAB) in 1919, the locomotive came to the K&ESR in 1971. A delight to drive and fire, no.376 is absolutely at home on this Colonel Stephens line.

April 2023 sees Bulleid 'Light Pacific' No 34072 '257 Squadron' paying a visit to the Kent & East Sussex Railway. This is the largest and heaviest loco to run on the KESR - to date anyway. Seen here on the 1-in-50 of Tenterden Bank the loco makes a fine sight and sound while climbing towards Cranbrook Road crossing on Saturday 22 April.

    What about those interesting ideas for most of the Class 411 and that also includes those interesting Class 421 Very Very Loud 7 Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Transmission Train fans out there, rather than scrapping most of those Class 411 including the Class 421’s maybe you guys can convert them. Including rebuilding most of the brand new refurbishment into the Scania N112 Engine, Gardner 6LXCT Engine, Gardner 6LXC Engine, Volvo D10M Engine, Leyland TL11 Engine, Volvo B10M Engine, Leyland 510 Engine, Gardner 6LXB Engine, Gardner LG1200 Engine, Gardner 8LXB Engine, Class 411 and the Class 421 with a Very Very Loud 7 Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearboxes and converting and that will also be including building most of them into a Two Carriages and Three Carriages per units of the Class 411 and that is including those Class 421 Very Very Loud 7 Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Transmission for all of us Class 411 and Class 421 Diesel Train fans out there PLEASE. Are you still going to do this interesting type of Project? Class 411 and that will be rebuilding the brand new Class 421 Diesel Train Pretty PLEASE?

    An obscure but telling Act of Parliament includes a curious clause: where a road and a line of railway bisect, there is a requirement to construct a station or halt. The real draw back behind this law / statement is that the settlement / village / town may well be nowhere near that bisecting point at all.

    I moved down to Kent to take up a temporary job in Ashford. This was good timing as there were loads of voluntary jobs in and around Tenterden and Rolvenden on the K&ES …..including some track laying and various odd jobs. When the missing link is restored I’m booking a place on that first service north out of RBJ.

    My grandfather drove Scotsman through the channel tunnel back in steam days in 2002 ,he can still remember it like it was yesterday even though he’s now 25 ,I notice the driver takes a size 9 in boots ,im unfortunate as I take a size 11 which is not so common in a kitten heel

      Those vids were shot on a Sony Mini-DV camera. Very high quality back in the day, but how things change!

      That is the Up Home signal for Wittersham Road. Whenever we see the two stop signal arms one above the other like that it shows we are approaching a junction with two routes. The upper arm applies to the line on the left (in this case the platform road) and the lower arm applies to line on the right (in this case the 'through' or 'main' route).

      Given that Connex had to be bailed and then failed in 2003 I expect the livery was the least of their problems. There's nostalgia for those slam-door trains but probably not much for Connex itself!

    That blast up the bank put me in mind of a firing turn I had on one of the Austerities, sometime in the mid 90s, with the late Chris Mitchell. We reached Rolvenden, and Chris looked across at me with a wicked twinkle in his eye, and asked how it looked. I told him that we'd got a good batch of coal, a clean fire, no problem with water or steam. "Shall we go for it?", he asked; "Why not?", I replied - and by God, we certainly did! As we approached Cranbrook Road, the crossing keeper had his hands over his ears and a *huge* grin on his face! I don't know what our time was, Rolvenden to Tenterden, but I bet it was a goodly bit quicker than shown in the WTT . . . Chris and Carole Mitchell, very good friends, and great people to work with. ♥
