Hank Pym is at his best when he asks the moral questions that make all the other heroes nervous, such as questioning the whole idea of vigilantism. But Hank has a dark side, in part because of the technology he uses. If you noticed, he has the same kind of crazy as Yellow Jacket from the first Ant-Man movie. The Hank Pym from this universe used his own tech more than was safe.

I'm loving What if but I'm disappointed that these stories don't have more context to the MCU we know. This isn't a "What if... Something different happened from what you know" because the universe we know wasn't a universe where Hope joined SHIELD. I know its sounds like a small quibble but it becomes more apparent in later episodes that ANYTHING could be happening in these universes and they just don't tell us (a universe where Dr Strange actually gave a s**t about Christine for example). For all we know there is no Captain Marvel at the other end of Fury's beeper in this universe, if Hope was in SHIELD what else is different? Something different must have happened with her mom? It changes the context from "wow, different paths dude" to just "OK, cool story bro" The earlier episodes didn't have this problem because the big change took place before it could effect anything else
