The haze effect in the basement is definitely to do with the depth of the character, since a similar effect is applied to the inside of the "bottomless pit". Kind of a letdown, but interesting to see how you need to FALL at 3:33am to activate it.
I think the basement one is implying the player didn't actually go in there, and just ran around the base in some kind of witching-hour-induced mania, knocking everything over while hallucinating or something like that. But I could be wrong.
Game deserves way more attention for just how good it is, the documentation videos are their own genre of awesome content too and are always great to see. keep up the work, its very good so far
I believe that the basement spiral one has more to do with weird physics jank than anything else. You mentioned when you go far enough down, items stop rendering and dropped items disappear. I'd be willing to bet that the further you get from the surface, the more the physics engine janks up. If we were able to remove the wall textures you'd probably be able to see all your stuff jumping around the further down you get. It might even explain some of the weird noises heard on the way down.

I was in the basement just today while scared shitless and with a camera to take pictures to get light and I found out there's eyes that appear at the lower levels before the ambient light reapears now along with black models that make the basement look like it has holes in it It was quite cool seeing it all

I was unaware that there was a particular time frame for the brick door event, nor was i aware that you actually had to go down yourself for it to actually open. I had placed a camera down there to hopefully see it when it opened while i did signals and other chores. Nonetheless, very interesting!
For the brick wall in the basement (and correct me if I am wrong or it leads to a different easter egg) you can also just break it using rocks and a lot of elbow grease.

Could you possibly make a video about that?
I have been tempted to actually; the main issue is that, with a major update happening soon, I think I will hold off. As far as I know, the area is incomplete as of the current build, so I'd want to showcase the full version of it (as long as it actually gets updated with the new version of the game!) I appreciate the question though!!

The reason Voices Network didn't explore the "hell" area is that it consists of a single room that contains literally nothing capable of being interacted with, which crashes the game after a while. (Fake crash, to be clear.)
I think what happens is that the same effect that causes held and dropped objects to not be rendered/disappear from being too far down, is also screwing with the games physics, causing the objects in the base to be thrown around, rather than some sorta entity spawning and doing it.

i could be completely wrong, but my hunch for why everything gets tossed around is floating point errors. if you travel far enough that your items glitch out, i imagine its possible that the collision of everything in the base glitches out too, causing them to move around like that

Also it looks like a collision bug like the cave. It's the sorta thing Joel would like, but if I viewed it on stream I'd probably be a little annoyed.
3rd absolutely sucks, it's literally meant to waste your time with absolutely zero payoff done in an annoying way, hell even when other games have some time waster secret/easteregg they atleast have the awareness not to overdue the joke to such a degree, that shit was a snore to watch sped up

Nope! Noclipping isn't in this version of the game. It was there previously, before this staircase existed. A player can FLY in sandbox mode, but doing so in that location will immediately teleport you outside.
Do you think you could consider changing the thumbnail? It would spoil the game for people who see it accidentally (like for instance, on the recommendation screen)
