Hulk(2003) A RAGING RANT

- My raging rant on the infuriating as hell comic book film, Hulk(2003) starring Eric Bana, Jennifer Connelly, Sam Elliott, Josh Lucas, Nick Nolte, Paul Kersey, Cara Buono, Todd Tesen, Kevin Rankin, Celia Watson, Lou Ferrigno, Mike Erwin, Stan Lee, Craig Damon, and Regi Davis.
Directed by Ang Lee.
I don't mind the film. I like it better than the TV series (never cared for the TV stuff too much). But it's cool, we agree to disagree. Nice job on the rant Mike.
*****
Do you like The Incredible Hulk better?
*****
Yeah.
+Johnlindsey289 Yes
I remember seeing the teaser trailer back in May 2002 and I wanted to see the film because I was a fan of the 1996 animated series (not to mention I played as him in the Capcom fighting games), After I finally saw the film, I was disappointed. The film was a slap in the face to the comics and the 90s animated series. I also saw the 1978 live-action TV series too, but not much of a fan of it. I later went to see the 2008 reboot (because of, again, I was a fan of the 1996 animated series) and I though it was alright. It was better than the 2003 film.
Yeah I didn't Hulk (2003) Directed by Ang Lee either the reasons I kept watching it when I was a Kid because I like The Hulk as a Superhero. I totally agree with you i mean the Story in the film was so stupid i mean why does his Bruce Banner's Dad have to be the reason that he becomes The Hulk why couldn't Universal Studios just have that Origin Story be like comics from The first Incredible Hulk comic, Just tell Bruce Banner's life about being a great Scientist, Engaged to Betty Ross, Banner Sees Rick Jones and tries to save Rick from the Gamma radiation and Bruce Banner gets hit with the Gamma Explosion. In Ang Lee's Hulk film Bruce Banner was mostly known as Bruce Krenzler in the whole entire movie i mean why did he had to be adopted in the film, and also there was no Villain in the film there no Villain, no Villain Now you got Absorbing Man who will suck him down in Water i mean that was so stupid especially the cloud scene. What I mostly hate in Ang Lee's Hulk was when Glenn Talbot Tortures Bruce with a Taser forcing him to change into The Hulk after he Glenn just got his ass kick by The Hulk seriously injuring Talbot and to me that's just stupid have you forgot that you just got your ass kick by The Hulk at Bruce Banner's house and now you want his Human forum to change into the Golly Green Giant i mean have you seen yourself lately dumby i mean Talbot to me is a Bully and a Douchebag. The only thing I like about Hulk (2003) is The Hulk scenes, the CGI and Special Effects, But what's really a real Hulk film is Marvel's The Incredible Hulk (2008) from The Marvel Cinematic Universe .
Romello Malone oh hell yeah
it's funny you say that, considering the fact that in his origin story, his father physically abused him, and killed his mother, severely traumatizing bruce.
Banner overacts way too much. The Incredible Hulk was a way better film. If the Incredible Hulk 2008 movie had to show how Bruce becomes the Hulk, it was gonna be too crammed in a 2 hour film. And I'm glad they did justice to the TV series with Bill Bixby in The Incredible Hulk 08 film because in this one, Ang Lee managed to make David Banner a homicidal freak and almost kills his own son. That is totally not true homage to Bixby's character!
I remember this film, from my childhood. Also, Bruce Banner in the comics doesn't have a happy life, either. His jealous dad killed his mom, he then grew up , was bullied by his classmates,(also featured in deleted scenes), he bottled up his inner anger and then the accidental explosion of gamma radiation brought out Bruce's inner emotions to life, in the form of a green-skinned, raging beast, who only wants to be left alone.
And Banner's dad is a combination of two villains. Zzzax and Absorbing man. He could absorb anything, and also became an electrical being of pure electricity. Then rocks, and then water, and then a watery cloud.
the hulk is more than a raging beast, he's just a man who wants to be left alone, cause he could severely hurt you if you anger him, and that's something he doesn't want to do.
nice hulk impersonation at the beginning mike haha
Lol
I bought the DVD, because it was only 1 euro and I owned the 2008 one, so I bought, watched to half way point and never finished the film.
It's not a terrible movie in my opinion, but it's just a very painfully mediocre flim in my opinion, and it had good ideas, but just poorly executed. I give it a 5/10.
What did you think of the 2008 reboot?
max moser shit
@@jackko21 Better than this movie that's for sure.
Love AndRage the 2003 film is better i like it
i can't wait for your review on the real hulk movie 2008.
bruh this movie alone is better then mcu version (2008-2022) and more reasons why universal should take hulk back. this movie is fucking underrated. mcu version is a joke and disney marvel continue to shit on hulk.
This is based on the crossroad story line and the Peter David run
I didn't mind Eric Bana's performance. Bruce Banner's supposed to be emotionless, actually. The child abuse he suffered at the hand of his father made him withdrawn. I agree that the movie could have told a better story with this part of Bruce's character, though, like the comic books do.
This movie looking back on it is not that great. I used to watch it alot as a kid and thought it was the greatest thing ever, but watching it recently it doesn't hold up at all. But I don't think it's a piece of shit, I actually like Eric Bana's Bruce Banner and did a great job for what he was given. There are some good parts in the film like the hulk smashing the tanks, the fight in the desert, The fight with Talbot after the 2nd hulkout is actually my favorite scene in the entire movie; he completely beats the shit out of Talbot and it's really cool in my opinion. But I do agree with the criticisms that people give the film and the 2008 film is WAY better than this movie.
I first watched this in the theaters a little before I turned 18 and I haven't found the urge to watch it again for some reason.
This movie was disappointing! i was expecting something great as i've been a longtime Hulk fan and it was a downer. I'm glad Marvel got back rights and we had a real Hulk movie in 2008 since it's now part of Marvel Studios and the MCU.
To bad Edward Norton wasn't a team player, now we've got the other guy, (who is way better and believable than the others)
Hulk 2003 is a good movie👍
Too each is own but personally i love this movie its one of my favourite movies i love how ang lee went above and beyond
I disagree. I really enjoy this film. When I first saw it in the theater, I was thrown by how it was executed and whatnot but, I have to admit, I have some strange fascination with it that persists to this day.
I thought this hulk movie was ok when it first came out but compared to 2008 and the tv series this one sucks ass
Yep
Marvel killed hulk since day 1 and fantastic 4.
Chopper was a good movie he is a real person he was fucking funny
Ed Norton Hulk was much better.
I remember seeing it in theatres back in 2003 the year after I saw the teaser. The film itself was a disappointment. I only saw it because I was a fan of the 1996 animated series and the character.
On an interesting note, Lou Ferrigno, who voiced Hulk in the 1996 animated series, made a cameo in the film.
I hated Edward Norton he was too whiney for me he sounds like the forin man that Andy Kaufman played
Agreed this film was PANTS!!!
Yeah, I also don't care for the movie all that much. I appreciate the attempt to tell a more dramatic piece with the character, but the drama and action are too far out of balance for it to work.
I too appreciated the attempt to tell a dramatic story..emphasis on the word attempt..I just think that film focused way too much on that angle..and made it way too complex. I just got done watching The Incredible Hulk(2008) and imo that film nails the balance I was looking for with a Hulk movie. It has the serious moments with Bruce and Betty's doomed relationship, it handles the origin story really well and doesn't make it a forefront(because in all honesty it's a very simple one and Ang made it way too complicated for it's own good and made it dominate the whole first half of the 03 film) and the action in the incredible hulk was much better, was actually shot like a normal movie, and imo The Hulk looked superb as well. It also had a better villain. Overall the film was miles better than the previous attempt by a long shot, fast paced, and thrilling like a Hulk movie should be, not the psychoanalysis bullshit that the 03 version was.
OcpCommunications
I agree that the 2008 film is better.
some scenes and the special effects were ok the pasing was slow
I actually enjoyed Hulk.
Before I watch this video, I'm guessing you're being close minded and just don't like it because there's not much action?
I think the character of Hulk fits the art house movie perfectly. The psychology element is really interesting and one of his best comic storylines was silent screams which was about his psychology.
Imagine bill Bixby as bruce in the avengers while still turning into the avengers hulk how awesome would that be rip bill Bixby
"Suck It!"- Mike 2013
4:29 I 2nd that statement Mike!
This movie is the main reason I stopped caring about superhero movies in general.. After this abortion I knew it was over... Nolan only justified my fears even further with his brand of garbage...
Did u watch the wrong Dark Knight?
C'mon man I get that you don't like Ang Lee's Hulk but I don't like being forced to not watch it alright because MCU Hulk's a joke now.
Eric Bana could've been a good hulk
I like this movie yes it has its problems but at least it tried to do something different ,it had me thinking about it for days afterwards no mean feat for a comicbook movie
Billy Crudup as The Hulk? Oh that would be cool! Then again, Crudup is playing The Flash's dad in the Flash movie, which I'm cool with. Also, Eric Bana was great in Black Hawk Down!
Fun fact that canceled the Hulk movie with Billy Crudup from the 1990s would’ve been directed by Johnathan Hensleigh who eventually went on to direct The Punisher 2004
16:39 YES,YES PREACH ON BRO!
29:28 ''MIKE SMASH!'' LOL A very epic rant I hate everything about this film Sam Elliot&Jennifer Connelly are ok but they can't save this film for me I still hate the bullshit CGI look especially how I found out online that there was going to use a animatronic built Hulk but once Ang Lee come aboard it was not used at all.The only thing I like about the film is Velvet Revolver's ''Set me Free'' that plays in the end titles what did you think about that song Mike?
The psycho-dad storyline really ruined the movie for me. That and the pos cgi hulk dogs or whatever they are. Still don't know what the hell is supposed to be happening at the end because it's too dark to comprehend what's going on. I'll stick with the Hulk TV series with Bill Bixby. Excellent rant btw
Chopper was OK but the ending sucked... Australian made... I think
democrats are fuckn stupid yes chopper was a real Aussie criminal but he was a fucking funny bloke
I know you said you don't like Eric Bana, but what do you think of Chopper? I thought he was great in that film.
He was good in that film..but that character is not Bruce Banner..but then again that's just my opinion. I should have been a little more clear on Eric Bana as an actor and my opinion of him. My rage blinded me for a little bit. He's a talented actor but just not in this film.
@@OcpCommunications Chopper I have never heard of that Movie before
This movie sucks big time!!! I couldn't finish watching that hot garbage!!!
I want the hulk need to work at gamma bomb instead doing stupid city labs he not so post to be living in art house he was so post to be living in desert in new Mexico in desert military gamma base town like I said we would've have abomination beside fighting his father is not ready yet what director do you like and they forgot Rick Jones and we need better writing and we need practical effect animatronics hulk
good rant Mike I agree with you on this I saw this in the theatre it was so boring I almost walked out lol hulk smash this fing film
Not really surprised you ranted on this, as it was a rather shitty film IMO as well. Not close to the worst comic book adaptation, but not good either. The way this film was shot just seemed really odd and disorienting at times to me. I mean, the Hulk looks good and the effects aren't bad, but the film itself is a complete mess. BTW on an unrelated note, I recently saw Man of Steel and I have yet to see your rant on that, but I personally have really mixed opinions on it. There were things I liked and didn't like.
Awww. I love this movie. This was a great adaptation of the Peter David run. I respect your opinion, though.
Hulk Smash Bullshit
This is my favourite hulk I feel like the MCU ruined the Hulk Hulk used to be my favourite character of all time i liked endgame but i hated what they did to hulk he is a fucking joke in this movie i wanted to fucking rage i felt like i was gonna hulk out when I first saw it I was just thinking of Mr Jamison laughing when Peter asks him if he could be paid in advance i dont even concider it the hulk he talks to much i hate the whole idea of proffesor hulk I hate how it looks he looked more like shrek mixed with amadeus cho who i fucking hate buy the way and streve urkel with the stupid fucking glasses I was just thinking he was gonna say what are y'all doing in my swamp the CGI was fucking horrible terrible people think hulk 2003 is bad I like that movie people say they talk to much in that movie yeah about why he is the hulk and the meaning behind it and how bruce banners nightmares are hulks reality in endgame and infinity war so many missed opportunity no rematch with thanos no fight with cull obsidian How about Hulk vs Thanos round 2 How about Hulk vs Cull Obsidian How about something Anything The Hulk didn't even fight in the movie he has no healing factor I feel like they have been dumbing down the hulk To add to that Endgame also made The Avengers movie Hulk goofy When Tony, Cap, and Ant-Man went back in time at the end of The Avengers movie Endgame retcons Hulk into talking more and there is the big joke about not taking being able to take the elevator and having to take the stairs and ever since Disney bought marvel they have been stripping away any sort of emotional depth from him completely removing his abusive dad from his past in that deleted scene from Thor ragnorock instead it's ah we where perfect family but I missed my dad die because I was working too much where is his emotional depth the abusive father is what made the hulk the gamma just unleashed him for me I want to see Bruce Banners struggles like the stuff Edward Norton wanted in his movie you know the stuff that was cut for me the best hulk is eric bana proffesor hulk is the opposet of what stan lee wanted him to be a scary fearful monster i liked how they embraced it in the eric bana movie the whole scary fearful monster thing and even making references to other monster movies like king kong frankenstine even the t rex from jurrasic Park Godzilla and when they thoughtfully turns the Hulk’s characterization into a deeper metaphor for trauma the dramatic back story of bruce banner with his dad killing his mum and the phycological drama stuff make it even scarier so eric bana is my favourite hulk and i like how the eric bana film he is like an unstoppable force of destruction in the mcu besides the first avengers movie he seems very weak and in the super hero squad witch i hated to death and in all the disney xd shows witch i fucking hate to they make the hulk a mentally retarded thing For me the perfect version of the hulk would be a hybrid of the el Ewing immortal hulk with the horror themes jeph loeb marvel knight hulk grey avengers earth's mightiest Heroes hulk because we get to see a different side to the hulk that we normally don't see where he is more intelligent but not professor hulk still a monster the hulk vs animated movie wolverine and the X-Men hulk from the Christopher Yost Animated Universe Earth-8096 the first season of the 1996 fox kids the incredible hulk cartoon from the marvel action hour of Earth-534834 for its really really dark tone and mature content and character development its sad they changed it for season 2 ultimate avengers earth-3488 hulk Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction Earth-TRN008 peter david the incredible hulk last call the 1977 incredible hulk bill bixby and Lou Ferrigno live action tv show from Earth-400005 created by Kenneth Johnson with the hulk being like the 1931 Frankenstein and it being very realistic and feeling more like a drama being based off the victor hugo novel Les Misérables not the fucking musical the novel i think it works for the hulk the first hulk movie with Eric Bana Earth-400083 with the dark phycologycal themes the Bill Mantlo and Peter David run and with a very dark horror disaster thriller monster found footage movie feel with fuck loads of jump scares and Mark Millars ultimate hulk with the idea of him being a villainous menace with a homicidal like rage and is shown to be unhinged lewd sadistic violent ruthless and very very cannibalistic you know when He often eats the remains of his opponents and is more of a murderer and the savage hulk from 616 and the Mindless Hulk and the worldbreaker hulk no one should be able to fuck with the hulk even if they kick his ass he comes back for revenge and goes besurker with blood thirst savage gorrila like rage like a loose cannon and i would want it to be an NC-17 rated or in australia r18+ rated with lots of body horror just scary as all fuck like the hulk should be and the idea of what hulk 2 was gonna be before it was canceled it was gonna focus on Bruce Banner's epic struggle with his inner demons, resulting in the emergence of an evil, gray-hued Hulk and It was on gonna be set on a Native American reservation and it was all about radioactivity and it was really political i wanted to see that so badly hulk is a character I reckon should be dark like daredevil punisher and batman and very horror like
0:19.
I agree 110%
Actually Marvel and universal highly profited from the 2003 Hulk... It probably profited and made more money the most of the phase 1 mcu movies accept for Iron Man 2... It made handsomely over 100 million dollars in its toy line alone, and you got to consider the 2003 Hulk hands that carried selling a few years later until they got upgraded with new version... I mean as a single movie I have done research and I don't think there's many single movies that have made more money with merchandise... Perhaps only Frozen... So this movie was nowhere near a failure it's kind of a success story... So yeah Hulk was the second solo profitable character after Spider-Man before the mcu... They said the toy line may significantly over 100 million dollars so add that onto the 245 million dollars you're talking heads up to the 400 million Mark Plus the Hulk hands that continue to sell a while after the movie... Taking inflation into account it definitely profited more than Captain America First Avenger and Thor...
i do not like this move
NKUniverse I know, Mortal Kombat has difficult moves to master.
This is the funniest shit I’ve stumbled upon
I liked sam Elliot as well
Your wrong this movie is dope
it is just like you said, the movie has it's potential , I mean I did not minded most of the films, yes it has many too slow moments , but I found some of those bizarre slow paced moments good in their own way, I guess they were trying to show a more less Brainless side of the green brute,? also I did like the whole Beauty & the beast theme of the film, that is a reason that also made me be open about this film, since I truly, I cannot say i'm a Hulk fan, but I am HUGE MARVEL COMIC freak, especially when it comes about the X-MEN, I always have a mega soft spot in heart for them, also sometimes I find my self hating the damn green Troll when goes fucking up marvel super heroes that I like a lot, guess always pissed me off a little that hulk has to be so OP Over powered ,I can say I truly care a hell of a lot more for COLOSSUS from the X-men than hulk. but strangely it was this 2 hulk movies who made me care a little more for the character , is hard to explain, now about eric bana, I do believe he is a great charismatic guy, maybe he might not be the best Hulk ever, but if you see him in a movie like TROY ( You know that hollywoodized version )that I cannot remember exactly the year somewhere around the 2000s , it was actually cos eric who made me like the movie on his incarnation of the Troyan Hector , he really did a very believable character that truly felt straight out of ancient greek times, unlike fucking Brad pit who didn't felt like Aquilles at all... sigh but it was Eric who added soul to the movie for me, so that is why I felt joy to see him as Bruce banner cos I already felt attachment to the actor a little , but yeah one thing it will always be GOLD is Jennifer Connelly,, god I love her so much, one of my younger self crushes ever since Labyrinth days SHE IS DAMN GORGEOUS
btw that RAMPAGING intro man, I wont fuck with you n real life you know ;D
I actually like this movie more then the Edward norton movie
the KĪCK AЯSE AussĪe 3.0 Me too!
I like this film, but I respect your opinion.
lol funny rant this film was boring the only 2 positives I can give some of the scenes look cool and the special effects the pasing was too slow
Who cares it's a movie dude don't watch it if you don't like it
So you just love every movie? The point of a review is to be critical of a movie whether it's positive or negative. Otherwise there is no point to making reviews if all you do is review films you like or only point out the positives in everything.
It's called having an opinion Chrisniquette 🙄🙄🙄🙄
GREAT RANT ON HULK 2003 OCPCOMMUNICATIONS 👍👍👍🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
