I was similar growing up. I had two things going for me. In my case is was baseball. I HAD NO TALENT! I made myself into a college baseball player when no one, I mean no one other than my Dad believed in me! I'm now a high school football and baseball coach and I show this film to every tryout before we start. I've had to cut it down some but I want every kid to know they have a chance if they put n the work and this film speaks volumes to that idea!
Yup...my football team had Thursday night movies to bring the team together. The classics...Hoosiers, the longest yard...and Rudy. It stays with me to this day. Awesome film, better soundtrack, best message. Thanks for the post.
This man deserves respect! If a person does not know how to express themselves in a polite manner, they do not need a inspirational video. They might need a psychologist, or therapist. This tip is for all those who guzzled to much beer during sports events, the point Rudy is trying to get across is not about sports, it's about achieving a goal.
Great film!!! I'm still in tears when he finally gets accepted sitting on the bench reading his acceptance letter, and when he's carried off the field and his father yells from the stands, " yes! yes! yes! GO RUDY!!"
It's obvious wagsk8throo has never seen Rudy. Most inspirational movie I have ever seen. It changed my life for the better and I don't even play football.
What a great movie!!! Wow!!!! Just a true inspirational movie!!!! Wow!!! YOU CAN DO WHAT YOU WANT IN LIFE IF YOU GIVE IT YOUR BEST SHOT!!!1 God bless you all!!!!
Ya know, I'm gonna take back what I said earlier. I realized how awesome it is that this kid, that never had a shot at greatness, never had a chance to play for his team, who kept getting told that he's just dreaming.... he became one of the most famous players the team has ever had. Now his name is synonymous with players that have a lot of heart but no chance. Amazing.
I try to instill in my son the same drive that Rudy instills in everyone.. Be the best you can be. Above everything.. above all obstacles. persevre. and you will be all that you can be.
Sean Astin was nominated for an 0scar for a short film he did in '92, but he should have won it for Rudy. He graduated with honors from UCLA, that day l had my picture with him. Great actor, better guy.
"Now his name is synonymous with players that have a lot of heart but no chance." I think his name is really more synonymous with PEOPLE doing ANYTHING in life that have a lot of heart but keep getting told they "have no chance."
I did play football. I was a lineman. And I'm not saying he wasn't successful or anything like that. What I was getting at was, if he is about 20 or so and already did everything he wanted in life, what else is there to live for? I know he did become successful but what did he have to look foward to? THAT is what I was getting at.
This is just what I gathered from the movie. Aside from the movie, I know almost nothing else about him. I don't claim to be the expert, and perhaps it was just the way the movie portrayed him, but that seems to be the way Rudy was, based on the movie. Yes, I know movies exaggerate true life events.
I feel that this man answered the call of GOD and he got exactly what he wanted. Right here just in this movie/video/documentary you get smacked in the face reality and it's saying you can do whatever you want to do as long as you have the heart and desire for it. My goal is the same as Mr. Ruettiger's and that is to go and play football for Notre Dame. I will follow my dream like him and succeed on the way. Thank you Mr. Ruettiger for paving the way for future generations!!
ok, let's get this straight. Was he disliked by other players and students? I do like the movie a lot but i find it interesting that you dont see quotes or documentary footage from his teammates or anyone else.
I would hope so. I don't have the slightest idea what he did, but the way the movie made it out to be seemed kinda depressing. Now if he moved on, that's great. I also bet he made a good bit of money because of the movie. I hope he did move on. I really do. I don't know enough to make an assumption, but I just wonder what he lived for after Notre Dame.
Did anyone else catch the score of the USC v ND score during the movie??? It's at the beginning when they're sitting down to eat dinner and watch the game...of course USC is whipping them LOLOLOL FIGHT ON USC!!!
Since when is the ultimate goal of life being liked? Or more accurately when did the best indicator of righteousness and integrity come from public approval?
This has to be one of the most depressing movies I have ever seen. I mean this guy dreams his whole life just to dress for Notre Dame. What I wanna know is, after that last game... what does he do? He has no goal after that, and everything he lived for is in the past. If not for the movie, I bet depression would have gotten the better of him.
You know, that's is kinda reflected in the film..he looks like kinda a loner. It may have been he was soo driven that he lacked the social graces amoung his fellow students. But, I guess the truth is, or was that he worked his first 23 years in life just for those 17 seconds on the field. Did the fellow football players hate him too?
Yes, and I am still waiting for that defining USC movie... that has been filmed, and the name of it is????..... mmmmm......well.....How to deliever Pizza to UCLA grads????
For Graduation Sucess Rate, the answer is.. Notre Dame at 98%... Navy is 99% but they Don't give grant in aid scholarships for athletes ,now do they? Is Princeton 1 A ?
I hate Notre Dame, I'm a MIchigan fan but how do you not love this movie? My mom doesn't like football and she cries all the time at this film. Is it 100 percent true? No. But there's a core there that IS and that's enough for us.
If not for the movie, he would just be a nobody. He wanted to run out of the tunnel and he did that. What I was getting at was, now that he's done everything he wanted to do...... now what? That'll depress anyone. I hear it depressed Troy Aikman after he won the super bowl.

I don't even like football and this movie inspired me to go against all odds. this film is one of my favorite films of all time.
Man, if you go to PSU and you still love this movie, then you sincerely love it. I don't know how anyone can see this and not love it.
It's obvious wagsk8throo has never seen Rudy. Most inspirational movie I have ever seen. It changed my life for the better and I don't even play football.

I think the entire story of his life is an inspiration...

Love the music in this moive.
I try to instill in my son the same drive that Rudy instills in everyone.. Be the best you can be. Above everything.. above all obstacles. persevre. and you will be all that you can be.
How can someone dislike this???
I love this movie and Notre Dame. Go Irish!
Sean Astin was nominated for an 0scar for a short film he did in '92, but he should have won it for Rudy. He graduated with honors from UCLA, that day l had my picture with him. Great actor, better guy.
One of my all time favorite movies.....but, FIGHT ON TROJANS!!!
"Now his name is synonymous with players that have a lot of heart but no chance."
I think his name is really more synonymous with PEOPLE doing ANYTHING in life that have a lot of heart but keep getting told they "have no chance."
LOL, after the last few years I understand your anger bro :)
Fight on!!!
Good Job Rudy!!!
try to convince your teacher. my teacher brought it in for us to watch when i was in junior high
I wonder if the players almost at the end of the game chatted, Rudy, Rudy, Rudy, until the coach allowed him to play one play? 🤔

Best sports movie ever, yes.
FIGHT ON USC!!!

FIGHT ON USC!!!
Something is wrong with you if you think this movie is depressing. It's a movie...don't look at the big picture.
Since when is the ultimate goal of life being liked? Or more accurately when did the best indicator of righteousness and integrity come from public approval?
Talk to the shareholders of Runu

Dumervil is short as hell but he lead the NFL in sacks. Rudy had some speed. .. What could've been

Sack was cheesy? It actually happened..
Rudy didn't get the sack in real life. Watch the real video.
Great movie..great university...great team...all ND haters are wannabes

@greymoose1000 : why you gotta be a hater?
