I do like the Berube hiring - but I tend to think that their playoff record won’t change much. That’s because the core 4 don’t have any jam or snarl to them. You either have that or you don’t - and the core Leafs just don’t. So while Berube a a good coach - a championship one at that - there’s only so much he can do with a roster that has too much of its hard cap in four soft players. (Thanks Kyle!)

I do think all those no trades had to be given out to get players to sign in Toronto. The media circus in Toronto, high taxes and weather is why top players would rather go to Florida. Tampa, Vegas… and so need a premium to stay in the big smoke. It’s no wonder that top players opt to go to those teams sunbelt teams (way less media, little to no state taxes, way better weather). And surprise, surprise…. All those teams (Florida, Tampa, Vegas) have all been to the Cup Final in recent times and have won in the case of Tampa and Vegas. Leafs can’t win more than 5 games in the playoffs. 5… just once in like 20 years. Very sad.
