The only thing that bugs me with this episode is that "a male presenting Time Lord will not understand" the Doctor was literally a female not at all that long ago. even the psychic paper still thinks the Doctor is female. just seems unnecessarily mean.
Yes, as much as I loved the episode, that line was a bit clunky. I woud much rather he and Rose had bonded over the whole changing gender thing. The line didn't even make sense, there are both men and women that are unable to let things go, and in my experience, it's more often than not women. It would have been better had they said something like 'something you've always had trouble with Doctor. Letting go and giving up control' which would be right on the money, because the Doctor, male or female does struggle with that.
Yeah legit the only part that I had an issue with, so ham fisted. I was like what is it gunna come out their menstrual cycle or something? Then no, it's just women have superpowers of being able to let go of problems.
Yes, I'm not a fan of pride agenda pushing but generally I felt this episode used it as a background plot just fine... except for that line, it's an example of the pendulum swinging too far... when you've tamed the bear don't go and poke it with a stick!
Listen, I won’t say it’d not clunky but they’re not talking about 14 there, they’re talking about 10. They’re giving a reason why 10 wiped her memory rather than telling her to try to expel the energy. Anyway, 14 hasn’t had a moment to think about this alternative. We know this doctor (or at least 10) gets distracted when he’s emotional. Again, not saying it was a perfectly written line or even as logical as they wanted it to be… and yes it does seem a little mean for no reason.
6:26 I think the reason why he hasn’t had any of the usual post regeneration symptoms is because in canon 14 has existed for an hour. There is a 14 part comic titled “liberation of the daleks” which is set between power of the doctor and the children in need minisode, which takes place directly before the star beast.

I'm 100% convinced the TARDIS set that whole thing up. It knows the future, it would be an awful big coincidence that it reconstructed a console with a coffee machine at the same time Donna came back. I bet it was like, "Sure, one quick trip to see Wilf...and a few other stops around the space-time continuum!"
So good to see you enjoying this, thanks for persevering in getting this video up! There's a theory that the Tardis deliberately manifested a coffee machine so that Donna would spill it on the console and they would end up travelling further afield! 😂 You didn't always take me where I wanted to go! No, but I always took you where you needed to go!
'The Star Beast' Doctor Who comic this special was based on was published in 1980, two years before 'ET' and four years before 'Gremlins'. So it is more likely those films were based on the ideas in the comic... 😉
Love the shirt!! My roommate just got it. The pattern is so cool! I love your theory about how casual the Doctor saying he loves people might be Ncuti's Doctor starting to come out. A lot of people think it's because this is the first incarnation after the Doctor was a woman, but Jodi's Doctor was so closed off from her companions emotionally. She kept her distance on purpose, all the while calling them "fam." If it were tied to her, it would be more out of regret that she didn't say things like that more often. I like your idea more that it's the next Doctor's character traits starting to appear.
Thanks for coming back Shayla, you've been missed! For reference, this episode scored the highest Audience Appreciation Index score since 2017, so yes, despite the noisy minority crying because there are trans people on their televisions, the episode was generally loved!
Honestly, they're missing out because this episode really felt like coming home. This isn't any shade to anybody who liked Jodie's era because we all have different tastes but personally I could never get into it at all and this felt like "proper" Doctor Who to me. Just effortlessly fun. I can't imagine letting anger about the "woke" elements (aka trans people and disabled people existing) get in the way of enjoying a story.
All I've heard from partly watching Clownfish TV's video is an issue with making it their entire character and keep bringing it up, I suppose. My comment *is* really irrelevant on this but because I'd never heard of Yasmin, I *was* a bit confused with the whole "Jason" thing and I can't remember when in the episode It clicked. So If It took *me* a bit, then "There's someone out there who really needs it beaten into them" - Kat, Gallifrey Gals. It wasn't mentioned that often and maybe some want it to be their whole thing. Maybe, that's why they march! I do agree with Gallifrey Gals that the "Men can't let it go...Women can" should be "YOU DON'T WANT to let it go".
I am so glad that someone finally addressed the fact he has recovered IMMEDIATELY from regeneration. The only Doctor in the modern era that we haven't seen do this up to now is Eccleston and I think that's because it was insinuated that he regenerated a bit of time ago so he likely already recovered before we see him. Since then, 10th Doctor was out the whole episode more or less, 11 had his "steering a bit off", 12 went totally loopy, 13 passed out for a bit but 14 seems totally fine. My theory is that either the Doctor already knows how to navigate his regeneration as it's a recycled face OR there's something off about this regeneration which will be explained later on... or RTD just decided it was time to put that small detail to bed
I've got no freaking clue what my favourite moment. maybe when (SPOILERS) the doctordonna appears. that or the scene when the plushies appear or the court scene or the new interior or...AAHHH THIS SPECIAL IS SO GOOD!!
13:33 personally, while I still do LOVE Jodie and Chibnal, I am SO happy to see Davis' writing style back, not to mention David and Catherine. I feels like having a cuppa with an old friend who I haven't seen in ages. edit: also- I love Ur shirt
I love, your love of Miriam Margolyes 😁 a friend of mine worked with her in the 90s on an animated film she did. My friend absolutely fell in love with her 😂
I love Jodie as the Doctor, and I loved her last season. Her era overall I didn't hate, but it wasn't my favorite. (Though the master reveal in her era was great.) But she was absolutally brilliant, and I really wish she'd gotten more to work with. As far as the specials go, my understanding is we're getting three 60th specials, then a christmas special. And I believe they said the christmas special would be Ncuti's first episode. And given that Ncuti was briefly in the trailer for the 60ths, I'm guessing we'll get a regen in the third 60th.
WELCOME BACK!!! Gods, this just feels right! Like coming home, in a way... HOLY SHIT, THE TATTOOS!!! You went HARD in the last year! LOVE IT! (That shirt is giving me MAD Mollymauk Tealeaf vibes, btw! Don't think I didn't notice!) First things first: DAMN. You could TELL they had Disney Money! They pulled out ALL the stops! Apparently this episode was based on a 4th Doctor (Tom Baker) Comic! WIth them even bringing the writers from said Comic to help adapt the script! How has it been 15 FUCKING YEARS since the last time we saw these two together?! They haven't changed a BIT! Except for the Doctor... He definitely expresses his emotions more as 14 than 10... The show you're thinking about is "Heartstoper"! (Nevermind, you got it in the end!) Fun Fact! The name "Jayson" means "Doctor"! So, even if Rose changed her name, Donna still named her after her best friend... "ALLONS-Y" WE ARE SO FUCKING BACK. And Shaun answered in French. That's awesome! I swear we're gonna see Wilf on the last special before the Christmas Episode this year and I'm gonna cry if we do... He HAS to have recorded SOMETHING, right...? Just the one scene...? "I can't tell if I hate it or love it... What's it called? Gremlins?" Literally the first thing I thought as well! That little theory is actaully reaclly niec! Like maybe Ncuti is SUPER affectionate! Or... maybe it's just Tennant Evolving! Meep pulling an ET was phenomenal! Man, the new Sonic has it all! Floating Screens, Deployable Shields... 14 came prepared! THE JUDGE WIG!!! I haven't seen that since... Tom Baker, was it? Fitting, since it was HIS Comic adaptation! And it was good to hear about the Shadow Proclamation... Very "Christmas Invasion" and "Stolen Earth"! IT *WAS* A GREMLIN! I KNEW the wheelchair was gonna have a gun, but I didn't expect ROCKETS! Good shit, Bingham! She saw him run and started remembering... I'm not crying, you are! HOLY SHIT, YOU'RE RIGHT!!! No Regen-Sickness! Because maybe the Regen was interrupted? Is that why he Regenerated with an outfit already on...? IS NCUTI GONNA ROLL UP IN JODIE'S CLOTHES?!?! The second that glass pane started coming down I started having the WORST flashbacks... I guess it wasn't him taking it this time, tho... - Donna, on "The FIres of Pompeii": "Nobody can survive that! Let alone us!" **"Forget US".** - Donna NOW: "You'll die." **"Okay. My daughter is down there."** NOBODY has ever been more Noble. It's LITERALLY IN THE NAME! This woman imprinted on the Doctor so hard she made him reuse a previous face TWICE and regenerate into Capaldi. NOBODY will ever do it like her! Donna getting her memories back and IMMEDIATELY getting pissed about giving away the Lotto money... As she should! THE DOCTOR-DONNA GETS ONE MORE, BITCHES! Still feel like it was kinda bullshit that the cracks in the ground sealed when the ship was stopped, but I guess we've forgiven more egregious things! Man, the plushies as every monster they faced... Daleks, Cybermen, Adipose, Judoon, the Ood... Just felt right. Imagine transitioning and picking your new name, only to realise that maybe the reason you transitioned and felt right in your body (or maybe not, the answer doesn't matter, either way the Transition/Regeneration alegory holds strong) is because your Mom was half-alien when she had you and you subconsciously ended up calling yourself after your Mom's best friend's ex... How would YOU feel about that...? "Wait 'till I tell the Boss!" I think I know who that is and I can't WAIT to see your face! "We choose to let it go". Okay, now THAT was bullshit! It looked pretty, but no. You could have had Donna and Rose still have some Time Lord knowledge, but this just felt like lazy writing... Like a "get out of jail free" card that just... kinda happened when it had no need too... And don't blame it on what gender he presents! We know DAMN WELL Jodie would have been too flabbergasted to get it either! That said... there was a wonderful message to send here! And I'm glad it was heard! A little hamfisted in at times, but still a wonderfull message! "Me, in a box with another man?" "Yeah, but not him." Why do I feel like this is RTD subtly apologizing for what he did to Mickey on Episode 1 back in 2005...? So here's the thing... it's safe to assume that when 14 showed up, the TARDIS still looked like Jodie's, since for the first time he didn't blow it up on Regen... So did she change because of her own will or was this also manipulated...? Hmm... BUT SHE GOT SO MUCH SPACE (Again: DISNEY MONEY!) SHe just knew he'd get the zoomies immediately! AND THE ROUND THINGS!!! THE CONSOLE LOOKS LIKE 5's and David Tennant grew up with the 5th Doctor, don't touch me I'm not well.... I'm so fucking glad 14 talks about his feelings more... 10 DID get a LITTLE BIT on my nerves about that back in the day... Oh, so spilling tea on the TARDIS just knocks her out but coffee makes her explode? That's how you KNOW it's a British Show! "We could end up anywhere in Time and Space!" Of course you can... after all, that's how it all got started! Side-Note: I MISSED MURRAY GOLD'S MUSIC! FFFFFFFUCK, THAT NEW THEME FEELS *GOOD*! As for the question in the Description: Favorite part...? Donna getting her memories back! Between her and Davd Tennant getting his "suffering face" back on for about a minute it was PERFECT! And that's the Episode! Gods Above, I've missed your rambles! Your editing work showed and we're all very proud of how far you've come... AND how quickly you got back in the saddle after a year! But yeah, literally NOTHING is known about the next Special, so I, for one am VERY excited! See you then! Welcome back, Shayla. We missed you! Peace Out, Girl Scout! (You know, I still can't believe that stuck back in the day [two years ago] but not hearing it this time felt wrong... I guess it grew on me!)
"We choose to let it go" would have worked so much better if they set it up just a little, a VERY LITTLE more with the inclusion of some Nine memories of the Bad Wolf and the Time Vortex. Reaching back into Nine's memories isn't something Ten really knew how to do; oh, sure, he knew what HAPPENED, but Nine took up the time vortex with so much ease and proficiency that it can't have been his first time moving a little bit of the Time Vortex around. Granted, the whole thing was still too much, but he was clearly skilled with the stuff. If you assume that it takes practice and something akin to muscle memory to move regeneration and time vortex energy freely, then Ten not being able to get the metacrisis out of Donna isn't because he was "male presenting" like that means anything (ESPECIALLY in the context of the Doctor), but because the easy manipulation of time and regeneration that Nine had was completely eliminated in Ten's regenerated body. It would be like developing a resistance to the thing that killed you last time; since time energy killed Nine, Ten's body might not let him move it freely. That would let Donna and Rose, who never had that resistance, send it back to the Tardis much more easily than Ten could have taken it from Donna originally. You know, once the metacrisis is diluted to the point that they can think clearly, which it CLEARLY was not when it first happened. It would work better with a slight wording change, too: "We can finally let it go." Saying "we choose to let it go" as if women giving up on power is some kind of superpower isn't a very good message, but "we can finally let it go" is a mark of healing and overall much better. Anyway, that's how I would have changed the scene and maybe, possibly have made it make sense? Hopefully?
Random fact for you. Out of the 8 incarnations of the Doctor from 2005 onwards (including 15/Ncuti Gatwa), only 3 haven't regenerated from or to David Tennant. 9/Christopher Eccleston regenerated to David Tennant. 10/David Tennant regenerated to David Tennant (Journey's End). 11/Matt Smith regenerated from David Tennant. 13/Jodie Whittaker regenerated to David Tennant. 15/Ncuti Gatwa will presumably regenerate from David Tennant. Only War/John Hurt, 12/Peter Capaldi and 14/David Tennant didn't regenerate to/from David Tennant.
Someone on IG, said that the explosion at the end was set up by the TARDIS to give Donna one last adventure. I can buy that... As always, I love your reactions! You put so much energy! You´re great!
There was a brief mini comic in magazines about the doctors events right after he regenerated in power of the doctor, so his regeneration sickness probably already happened
Hey TH-cam, why can't you like a video more than once? I assumed that the lack of post-regeneration sickness was because that's usually the after effect of regenerating into a new body, where this is going back to an old one. Works for me, anyway.:)
The theory about the regeneration sickness actually makes sense. I didn’t realize it till just now so we definitely know for sure something is going on that we’ll see in the next set of episodes to come with why this face of the Doctor came back. I mean yes, nostalgia, but I heavily believe it’s going to be significant to 15’s story as well. Good catch!
Are you aware as well that the behind the scenes 30 minute Doctor Who Confidential episodes as well as these new specials are back as well. Got to say was quite a special thing seeing this being slotted on not just BBC1 to be shown but that after last weekend on BBC1 it was then screened during the week on BBC3 also and as said with the Dr Who Confidential back as well. The last time the show was so prominent on multiple BBC channels was of course many years ago but it just feels good that hopefully now it really will be popularity revival just like it once was.
Missed seeing your reactions to doctor who. First episode I really enjoyed I felt a lil emotional even tho I didn’t grew up with David’s era I did see some episodes when I was younger but I started with Matt. Apart from 3,4 little things and that it was a bit too fast paced, this episode I had a lot of fun. I’m happy to hear people are enjoying and hopefully over time doctor who can grow lots and is something many will enjoy. Love the new look for the sonic and the new Tardis. 💙
So I remember reading that even though David Tennant is the doctor he is not the doctor he was. He has all the experience of the doctors asked for him which it makes him seem like a slightly different doctor, but still the doctor we know in love
If you want to see how the visual effects were done, look up John smith on TH-cam he was the main vfx director for doctor who and has uploaded a breakdown of his work
Something people aren’t understanding btw is that (apparently) donna and rose choosing to let go of the Metacrisis is a call back to how they’ve always said that Female presenting time lords are much more powerful. As shown by Romana in Destiny of the Daleks
My favourite part of this episode was seeing the best team back together again - RTD, Rachel Talalay, David Tennant, Catherine Tate and SHAYLA! The Whoniverse is back just the way I like it 😃
@@sallyatticum It's such a great team up, isn't it - her Directing on "Heaven Sent" and "Hell Bent" gave Peter Capaldi the chance to really show what he could do with The Doctor. 1st woman to direct a Dr Who Season Finale, and 1st woman to direct a Christmas Special - and she nailed it. So glad they gave her the reins for the first episode of the new RTD era 😀

Happy to see you reacting to the new specials!!! I would watch reactions to old episodes when I was feeling nostalgic and always loved yours
There are Extras called, 'Tales of the TARDIS'. You should watch them if you have seen Classic Who. Very Good Reactions. 👿
I like your idea more that it's the next Doctor's character traits starting to appear.
where is the shirt from? I love it
@@aishadwsh209I think it's Critical Role's Mollymauk Tealeaf shirt!
So good having everyone back and you too Shayla so fun seeing your excitement
…in the words of 11, “miss ya.”
I’m so glad to see you back reacting to Doctor Who. You have by far the best Doctor who reactions!
Jason means Healer or Physician. So Donna named her son Doctor. Then her daughter took the name Rose 🌹. Maybe TARDIS had something to do about that.
Other than how they handled Donna's metacrisis issue, I liked the episode a lot
I think tbh it's more "we only have 3 episodes with this doctor, let's not waste one on the post regen sickness"
all 14s regeneration sickness stuff happened in a comic
I've got no freaking clue what my favourite moment. maybe when (SPOILERS) the doctordonna appears. that or the scene when the plushies appear or the court scene or the new interior or...AAHHH THIS SPECIAL IS SO GOOD!!
The TARDIS cleaned up for Wilf. When they see Wilf it’s going to hurt. It’s the last thing he filmed before he died.
13:33 personally, while I still do LOVE Jodie and Chibnal, I am SO happy to see Davis' writing style back, not to mention David and Catherine. I feels like having a cuppa with an old friend who I haven't seen in ages.
edit: also- I love Ur shirt
Her reaction is the definite article. She is always JustSoShayla.
I love, your love of Miriam Margolyes 😁 a friend of mine worked with her in the 90s on an animated film she did. My friend absolutely fell in love with her 😂
Did anybody else hear snippets of “I Am The Doctor” at 8:58! I love when you get crossover with different doctors action theme songs!!
I loved the Master reveal during Jodie's era. Agent O. Haha! Agent "Oh No"
WELCOME BACK!!! Gods, this just feels right! Like coming home, in a way... HOLY SHIT, THE TATTOOS!!! You went HARD in the last year! LOVE IT! (That shirt is giving me MAD Mollymauk Tealeaf vibes, btw! Don't think I didn't notice!)
First things first: DAMN.
(Nevermind, you got it in the end!)
Fun Fact!
Let alone us!" **"Forget US".**
- Donna NOW: "You'll die." **"Okay. My daughter is down there."**
NOBODY has ever been more Noble.
Hopefully?
Shayla back with the best shirt, yet! Such a fun reaction and review, too. It's great to have you back!
We've missed you, its good to see you back and reacting to Doctor Who!
So good to see doctor who back and you as well. 🎉
Damn, the regeneration sickness comment was spot on! I had completely forgotten about that. Oh man, I need a rewatch
So happy to see reacting to Doctor ❤️
Someone on IG, said that the explosion at the end was set up by the TARDIS to give Donna one last adventure. I can buy that... As always, I love your reactions! You put so much energy! You´re great!
I always look forward to your Doctor Who reactions and again you didn't disappoint! See you again next week!
There was a brief mini comic in magazines about the doctors events right after he regenerated in power of the doctor, so his regeneration sickness probably already happened
I’m about 99% sure that the Tardis they are using now is gonna be Nuctis cos David said he saw Nucti and Millie filming on it
Your reaction makes me so happy! Absolutely loved this episode and made my heart 😊
Hey TH-cam, why can't you like a video more than once?
I assumed that the lack of post-regeneration sickness was because that's usually the after effect of regenerating into a new body, where this is going back to an old one. Works for me, anyway.:)
Have been so hyped for your reaction been so excited for your upload glad you managed to get it up in the end :D
I've been waiting for your reaction almost as much as I was waiting for the episode itself.
It’s great to see you back! Loving the tattoos btw!
Good catch!
The Doctor and Shayla are back and everything in the world is good for an hour
Good to have you back. Love the shirt.
i love Dr WHO, i do not care what form because every message is valid and every story needs to be told and not just one face can do that.
GREAT! to see you again. I haven't seen you for a while and I really treasure some of your earlier reactions. Hope to see more.
So nice to have Doctor Who back :) id give this episode an 8/10. Some things could have been better but overall I enjoyed it alot 💜
I AM SO GLAD THAT YOUR A JODIE ERA FAN. I LOVED IT & HER!
Good to have you back, Shayla!
It looks like they spent ton of money on the new Tardis. I'm pretty sure it'll be around for the next Doctor.
ty for uploading!!!!! happy to see
The Meep pre-dates the Gremlins movie.
Beep the Beep also gets compared to ET as though it's copying that. It predates Gremlins by four years, and ET by two.
I loved hearing the I Am The Doctor theme.
What a beautiful episde that was! loved your reactions!
Commenting for the Algorithm! :D Glad to see Doctor who (and your reactions) back!
I personally wasn't a fan of the chibnall era, but I feel like this episode really was a return to form. So excited for what's to come!
The sledgehammer crimge was way better written and integrated with Russell
6:45 good point about the lack of regeneration sickness.
Loved the episode, loved your reaction. Both make me very happy and cuddly!
PEACE OUT GIRL SCOUT
Oh I love your excitment during this episode!
The reaction I was waiting forrrr
It was a fun episode. I can't wait to see the remaining. Also, I LOVE that shirt!
Beep the Meep predates gremlins and et and yoda
I think the Doctor's unusual regeneration may be a part of a nefarious plan which won't be revealed until the second or third special.
It's great to see this reaction. As a long time fan I'm probably more critical of it. But seeing reactions like yours really warms the heart.
20:50 so glad you only knocked three times XD
My favourite part of this episode was seeing the best team back together again - RTD, Rachel Talalay, David Tennant, Catherine Tate and SHAYLA! The Whoniverse is back just the way I like it 😃
Rachel Talalay hadn't written for RTD's Doctors, so this is exciting all around.
I think the lack of regeneration sickness means there’s been a lot of time since Power of the Doctor (which means enough time for plenty of Big Finish stories and possible future multi-Doctor stories)
Glad to see you are back. Really enjoyed this first episode. Really looking forward to the next one
Hey Shayla! Was looking forward to your reaction let's go!
God damn it feels good to be watching new DW and new Shayla reactions. And having a trans character being just normal, and yet also a key part of the story ❤
Wonderful to see you again, Shayla!
Yay you’re back! With an amazing shirt!
The 14th Doctor feels different because of everything he has gone through post-End of Time pt. 2
3:13 YES, THAT'S IT! THANK YOU!
I WAS WAITING FOR YOUR REACTION!!!!
13:26 Good luck with that closed captions !
I posted the dates on your last video :
"The Star Beast" - Saturday 25th Nov
"Wild Blue Yonder” - Saturday Dec 2nd
“The Giggle” - Saturday Dec 9th
lets go! and how easily david and catherine slipped back into the roles
OF COURSE SHE DID IT ON PURPOSE!! IT WAS IN THE SCRIPT!!!
It’s weird I’ve had to subscribe to your channel twice I don’t if that’s TH-cam glitch or what but anyways I absolutely love your reactions you’re amazing and with raw emotion!!!
"The Doctor is male and female and neither and more"
2 mins later
"Something a male presenting time lord will never understand"
What a way to piss over your own trans message, and in record time.
